because the song was originally copyrighted by Sony records. And when an artist makes a song, it don't belong "to them" it belongs to the recored company they are sighed to. Hint why Greatest Hits Albums are made all the time by recored companies, sometimes with out a singers control.

For example sony made a Greatest Hits recored once she signed with virgin and Glitter flopped, then most of the public though her career was over. And she didn't even want it out.
