really nice... good driving too, but You still gotta love the porsche lol. amazing a 1960s car (probably very highly modified granted,) tearing it up with some of the best handling new cars built.... its unbelievable, and I do wish miatas sound like old porsches lol, such an awesome sound. but sweet setup, love your exhaust note for a miata, and amazing driving.
@accordv6er The Porsche is a 911 Carrera RS from the early 70's... Trust me, those cars are powerful (2.7L engine 210 hp 6 cylinders) and do not need to be modified to beat a miata! Love the Porsches... BTW, I have got a miata (2004) and the handling is amazing.
@CrazyKiwi65 Absolutely. I used to build air cooled cars. 2.7 RS from 73, 74, with MFI is my favorite porsche... Check out my video. We got 240whp out of a 2.0l vintage certified N/A. and the 2.7s will make 240 stock, if they're MFI cars, and setup well with a good exhaust/ignition.
I've always liked the MSM. Did you ever do the RTA at Buttonwillow.? Good driving & at least your not like the other 2Calif.clowns 1 running slicks hyping their time or running with no dash.
Nice, man. You have any stiffening upgrades for the track? I've got a roll bar coming in (Out of fear of flipping, despite the small odds) and almost got the frame rails and butterfly brace from flyin miata along with some frog arms for the front. Probably will get those once I get my flyin miata clutch kit installed next week.
Rollbar and FM frame rails for chassis stiffening. Little stiffening is needed as the MSMs are the stiffest Miatas ever made, but also the heaviest because of it.
I would say that seeing as they have enough power to spin the rear wheels no trouble in first gear, that they have enough power for a "good take off", you need to be good on the clutch of course as you'll be departing at about 4500 RPM. There are plenty of people who say it doesn't have enough power, I think it has the right power to weight ratio for the grip provided on the stock chassis/wheels/tires to be fun on the street.
They aren't fast cars, but are still pretty quick. Stock they're in the 15 second range as far as the 1/4 mile goes which is pretty decent or a non-turbo 4cyl (obviously the one in the vid has an aftermarket turbo). Of course they are build more for taking on the corners than straight line speed.
haha, I think I know why, cos I include a web address, anyways, I just agreed with u the tricky part of sows above, CW as well, especially high speed sections! and that EVO driver also owns a miata! u can check out some CA track discussion at trackHQ com
I don't know if it was a real 911 RS, but it did have a cage in it and that's the name of the car written down on the driver roster for the day.
And yes, the power's so nice and easy to use, but the right hander's just a tricky corner (half downhill then uphill). I even had trouble putting power down there when the power was stock the last time I was last there.
When I was making comparisons between the RT-615s and the KDW2, I was only comparing the front tire grip on this course. Also, the power increase has little/no effect on front tires because they aren't the drive wheels and I'm still on the same suspension as I've always had, so comparing them head-to-head for heat tolerance and grip endurance isn't a bad comparison.
The last lap was 1:31, 8/30 frames (about 1:31.27). And looking at the footage again, it looks like I could only save about 3/10 seconds. I'm sure this car can go faster, but I didn't get another session for the rest of the day because a IC pipe popped out and I couldn't hold it to keep the car running on track. :(
And yes, I'm looking forward to a Redline Time Attack with this car in March. Buttonwillow is definitely my most familiar track to drive and compete.
Haha, I know the owner of the RS. This was with Speedventures, wasn't it? Nice driving.

Looks like an NB miata. Nice car. Which turbo you running. is it a 2560 or 2554? What's your target boost level?
pazernaker 2 years ago
GT2560R and my target boost is 12psi.

Sick. same setup I have. What kind of fuel management? I got an MS PnP I'm in love with. So many options to play with.

do miatas have enough power to have a good take off

Depends on a lot of things, really.

Was that a real 911RS? If so then it's nice to see someone flogging a 35 year old collector's car on the track!
Looks like you had some trouble getting the power down on that long right hander. It's nice too have more power, huh?

maybe it's not a fair comparsion cos azenis is with more hp, r u running same sizes?
wat's the exact time of last lap? i tried to use stopwatch and bring the start/finish earlier, you only save about 0.3 from 1'31.3 to 1'31.0
no matter what, you r showing very good potential of your new set-up, maybe mark your calendar for the Redline Time Attack in March

Have you been on the GP track? Or whatever its called... the one thats not the streets of willow.
legoflamb 4 years ago
I haven't been on any of the other tracks at Willow Springs. The GP track I think you are talking about is called Big Willow.
VagaXt 4 years ago
Is that like the pet name or is that what they really call it?
legoflamb 4 years ago
Big Willow is the official name for the GP track.
VagaXt 4 years ago
I haven't been there in a while, so I'm kinda out of the loop. I've only been there to spectate so I wasn't really sure.
