this was the worst natural disaster ive ever gone through. i went through earthquakes in cali when i was younger but this was awful. hope i never have to go through this again. my parents had just bought a house in punta gorda and we came in that monday to start moving in and then freakin thing had to hit a few days later. grrrr stupid weather.
im a naples resident......charley was the strongest hurricane we ever had lost our lani and every single tree in our yard....we also had no power for 6 days
I don't live in Florida, however my husband went to help clean uo and rebuild after this hurricane. He brought back pics of the damage and the only thing I can say is that some brave people live there! And may god be with you!!
that reporter is being over dramatic..that was only the beginning of the strom. he wouldnt dare be out there during the actual bad 45 minutes of the storm.
I lived in Port Charlotte. I never imagined losing everything but my life all in one day. We had to rebuild our whole house. I lived on Easy street which is off US41. Can't believe its been 5 years now. And Charlotte High just opened back after construction.
i lived where charley hit when it changed course three hours before landfall. It blew through in 4o minutes, and had winds of 145 mph. we lost power and a tree fell over in the yard, but it could've been a lot worse...
I lived in Port Charlotte at the time. My electric went out when it was at Cape Coral, and didn't have radio or tv after that (for 8 weeks)...so had no idea that the storm was about to him point blank full force until it got there. Actually, didn't know it was a direct hit before seeing the eye go overhead.
I remember by the bridge at peace river, the car was still on the big shop lift, but the shop and everything around it was gone. LOL. This hurricane was insane, devastating!!
Charley was a High strong 4 almost a 5 when it came in...thats what I heard...All I know for sure is...I was on the desoto county line where the eye crossed into Desoto...And Ive never heard sounds like that in any movie ,or anywhere for that matter....Just sat in a dark small room with 2 woman & 2 kids & me, & Waited & Listened. Was very erie knowing your trapped where u are & there no backup plan besides sit & wait. First & Last for me I hope.
Around Noon or 1PM that day, I got home from work and turned on the tv and saw Jim Cantore warning people to evacuate around Ft. Myers, Sanibel Island. "You have two hours tops,"he said. Even he looked scared silly.
Even though they get paid to do it, it's still not worth the lives of reporters. He could have been killed out there. I saw on a video of the infamous Hurricane Andrew that devastated south Florida in late August 1992, Bryan Norcross, who gave wall-to-wall excellent coverage of that storm, one of their reporters was out in it and Bryan Norcross said, "You need to come in." In fact that video is here on you tube.
charley... such fun to ride out, even on the east coast of Fla. . I got let off work 6 hours early, and i just sat on my butt and ate pizza all night.
I remember earlier this year, there was a friday the 13th severe weather outbreak. It was nothing compared to Charley which Charley was very costly and dangerous.
Charley showed clearly why superstitious people are afraid of Friday the 13th. Also it showed that weather does not care about Olympic peace(Athens olympic cames opened as Florida battened down the hatches)
Friday the 13th. How apt.

I lived in Winter Haven, and the 2004 Hurricane Season was an amazing experience. Francis took FOREVER to go over though.

That's right it was only 6 mph short of being a cat. 5. It had top winds of 150 mph.

That guy was stupid to be out there, right in the storm. It is not worth the life of reporters.

Its not their choice to go out there or not, they get paid to do that
