  • the fiiling..:)

  • This is a wonderful song!

  • the queen..of all times...

  • If I could only listen to one singer for the rest of my life it would be Ella. This is one of my favourite songs to cover at gigs. I just LOVE it.

  • R.I.P. George David Weiss

  • Sometimes the comments are so reductive and simplistic.

If Ella Fitzgerald went onto Major Bowes Original Amateur Hour, she would have dwarfed that talent back then, too. It proves nothing comparing her to today when at her time she was at the top, with the greats, already

  • rip GD Weiss-

  • This is one of the songs my daughter sang for Jazz Fest here in NOLA. I am so happy the program she is in is keeping this music alive.

  • My word, the woman is magnificent!

When I hear her sing,I smile and instantly feel better. Ella is just marvelous and always will be.

  • great !wonderful ! I love this kind of music. thanks!!!!!!!!!!!

  • on l apprend en music

  • simply superb, effortless.

  • I have a guitar solo version of this song on my channel.

It would be greatly appreciated if anyone could take some their time to listen to it.

    :)

  • Is there a male version of this song??

  • just take the standard female version, and replace the words if that is necessary. If you mean performed by a male singer, perhaps Sinatra or Deano? just a guess

  • absolutely beautiful. im most likely singing this amazing song for my voice juries at the end of my semester =)

  • thank you for this music and great video

  • Ella is amazing, Thanks for posting, although I do prefer Sarah Vaughan's version of this song, but that's comparing greatness to greatness.

  • Her diction, phrasing, and musicality are so amazing! Thank you for posting this.

  • VERY SPLENDID!

  • one of my favorite jazz songs ever!

I did a short instrumental cover of it, so if you have some time, check it out :)

    thanks ;)

  • "And there's a weepy old willow. He really knows how to cry. That's how i'd cry in my pillow if you should tell me farewell and goodbye."

    -PureGenius♥

  • she always sounded so effortless...

  • Flawless.

  • The very magical Ella, our world is better for having her in it.

  • One of my FAVS

  • I LOVE THIS SONG- best one i have heard she does it just beautifully

  • isnt this charlie parker on sax? it sounds like him or i must change to new ears .would give so much for having the chance to sing ON TIME in my live with ella.

  • Love it!!!

  • GODDESS

  • Can you imagine a talent like this wandering onto American Idol? It would ruin the show...everybody else would need to go home immediately

  • One never knows. American audiance may be more intelligent than one thinks. I would not assume that they are not, to say the least.

    Cheers,

    Wendy

  • Maybe. I like your positive attitude. Hope you are right. Wanna bet?

  • @c1wang I agree with you on this one.....American Idol would be blown away. That is such an on-point comment...thank you for this....Now this is how you sing...

  • @pjwinick I agree, though Ella Fitzgerald was discovered in a talent contest

  • @pjwinick no. they would not even know how to market her. American Idol is not worth the dirt under Ella Fitzgerald's nails. Don't stain her magnificence by putting that bullshit of a show and Lady Ella in the same sentence.

  • @pjwinick A talent like this came onto american idol...her name was Lily Scott from this season...she actually sang this song on american idol during hollywood week

  • @pjwinick maybe next season. (my fingers are crossed.)

  • The great Ella, unique. She made so many songs just sound better. Thanks C1.

  • very simple,

    soo complex

  • I just uploaded a guitar cover of this song. I would really appreciate if you people would watch it and tell me what do you think about it.

    thanks.

  • Just One word, I like it very much, thanks for sharing:-)

  • oh man so good so good

  • its so nice to hear a song sang beutifully with innocent lyrics...none of this "OOH YES SEX ME NOW!1" crap... just beutiful jazzy innocence!!

    aah its wonderful

  • There is only one Ella, & there aren't superlatives enough to even begin to describe our greatness.

  • amazing voice, there is only one Ella

  • Excellent ....great stuff from a legend.

  • perfection!

  • Her voice so clean, so gentile, so strong, such nice, this voice of the girl in which I should like to fall in love. If my mother in the childhood sang me song, that she had such voice!

  • GREAT!!! GREAT!! GREAT!!!!!! She is GREAT!!!

  • wow, she is incredible. So beautiful - excellent jazz.

  • oh my god ! she's amazing ! This song is absolutely magnificent ! i love it <3

  • I'm looking for a one of her older songs named deep in a dream of you (I think). Can anyone tell me where it is?

  • Que voz que tiene esta negra !!

  • she's amazing

  • Beautiful. The sad thing is, how so you think she'd get on at American Idol or something? Music needs to look back.

  • I live in The Netherlands and last season on X Factor, there was this jazzy girl named Hester, who sang Summertime and Black Coffee :D

  • She does this song too with Diede. Check out the list of vids on the side you'll see it. If you dont see it, search Diede & Hester - Lullaby of Birdland (jazz). They do a modern version of it. With all due respect to Ms Ella, if you love hers', you'll love theirs. : )

  • AABA

  • unbeatable! music without time"code" great forever... feels like in heaven..

  • Lady Day!

  • well, that was the nickname for Billie Holliday.

But Ella was so much better!!

  • She is simply Fantastic!

  • From ATisket Atasket to to her last recording' she was the Greatest !!!!

  • It's a lullaby of birdland every time that Ella sings, because she sounds like a sweetest bird!!!

  • Amen to that!

  • She is so refreshing, brings tears to my eyes, she brought so much joy to the world, I pray that she is being rewarded right now where she is for it.

  • Amazing

  • Ella was totally amazing! Sounds great for all time.

  • i can't say thank you enough for posting this...what a gem!

  • Dear friend, it is decent of you saying so. Wish I could thank you more than enough. :)

    Best regards,

    Wendy

  • So lovely. Seems like it's becoming a lost art to really sing beautifully (or write beautiful songs, for that matter). I played this for my parakeets (it is lullabye in birdland, after all), and they liked it too. One tucked her head in for a nap, so it is a fitting name to the song, LOL.

  • Music like this will never die. Ella was, is, and will always be, a great singer. She's a real solid sender.

  • Yeah, we can't let music like this die!

    I'm 16 too,

And music like this makes me speechless, well not really cause I can't help but sing along, but you guys know what I mean.<3

  • Have you ever heard two turtle doves

Bill and coo when they love?

That's the kind of magic music we make with our lips

    When we kiss

How romantic is this....I miss lyrics like this, moments like this...

  • aaaaaaaaah i LOVE HER.

  • I'm currently trying to re learn the tenor saxophone, and this is the second song my teacher is making me play. Its really fun.

  • her heyday was 20 years before i was born but she's my favorite singer!!

  • best female singer EVER - and this one is one of her best tracks ever too!!!

  • What a singer! I had the pleasure to see Ella in person a few years ago. One of the most wonderful nights of my life! How I miss her!

  • This is such a good song, I can remember singing it a few years ago with just me and my Piano. The words are amazing.

  • I have a live version of this song but I like this version much better. Thx for posting.

  • Dear Nikki, I am glad that you like this song too! -Regards, Wendy

  • ella is awesome!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i like it lol, it was mentioned in abook im readin so i decided 2 listen to it. im glad i did ^_^

  • This is so good! Love this song!

  • I love this song!

    Its beautiful.

    I'm always singing it. lol.

I wish i could go to the FROST School of Music at the University of Miami♥.

Anyway, it would be great if she were still around so 15 yr olds like me and other teens could appreciate jazz more. <3

  • Im 15 as well. I like Jazz and Blues. Blues more, but I love Jazz too.

  • Amen to that. I'm 16. We gotta show a difference in youth today.

  • only a little bit of the youth knows this celestial music :I

We should found a group of jazzy teenagers! xD

  • That would be great!

    Brilliant!

  • I sang this song in my high school jazz choir last year and I love it! Ella Fitzgerald is THE greatest singer of all time in my opinion. Such lyricism and expression paired with near flawless intonation--wow!

  • I'm fifteen and I use this song for any audition I do.

    It's an amazing song.

  • All the best to your music career.

    -Sincerely yours, Wendy

  • Did u sing accapella? Or with a backing track? Do you have any idea where I can geta backing track?

  • I have a back track from my Jazz standards CD.

I got it from my voice teacher last year so I don't have any idea where she got it.

    Good luck finding one though!

  • so am I ^^ I often listen to jazz music, I do like that!!!

  • I'm 15 and I love jazz ^_^ yaaay

  • Yeah, XartemisXX !

Thanks for the message. I know you were 15,.., 21 years ago. ;)

    That does not hurt. :)

    Cheers, Wendy

  • Nobody sings this song as well as Ella. Nobody. No argument.

  • "She is what she is; she is unique; there's no other person like her"

    Artie Shaw

  • i hate that theyll play a really stupid senseless song on the radio, and beautiful meaningful songs like this arent played for people to hear anymore

  • I do love this song. Ella Fitzgerald new how to make songs immensely amazing! i do wish more people would play these songs for their amazingness. They are truuue inspirations.

  • Ella is da queen !

  • such a beautiful voice, feels good to listen again and again

  • wonderful!!!! I have never heard such a beautiful voice!!!!

  • GRAZIE, grazie di cuore di averlo messo a disposizione di tutti

  • I love the live version of this song.. absolutely amazing...

  • I wish they had authentic singers like this on the radio, for girls like me. Too bad not all 14 year olds appreciated this.

  • i agree with you .. im 13 and i love ella and all this jazzy bluesy music but its never on the radio or anything :( Lol

    I Love this song :)

  • I also agree and I'm 15. I've always loved jazz songs espically ella!!!

  • hey whatta you know, there are other 15 year olds who like Jazz :) I was sure I wasn't the only one and you 2 confirm it :)

  • Dear Remix,

Sure enough, you are very right! There are teenagers who like this music as well and left comments here also, I had to delete some though, because of their choice of words to use. Oh, well...did not mean to be rude, but I have to pay respect to all other viewers. Hope you can agree with me.

Thank you for leaving a message here. I wish you a great summer. Oh, no, it is winter in Australia, isn't it ? Wish you well all the same.

    Best regards, Wendy

  • yeah! I agree 100% about all your comments. I'm 15 too, and I'm spanish. This kind of music is never on the radio, and it's a shame. Jazz music is also actual and there's a type of jazz music for every taste and for everyone!

  • I love her so mcuh.

  • there is not one song of hers that I dont like I love them all..she was a true artist...the greatest!

  • oh...my...GOD!!! i just cried!

    <3

  • for me it's the intro that makes this! so great

  • Odd. I don't like the intro. I always it was way over the top, but the effect was attempted again more sucessfully with 'It had to be you' - know what I mean?

  • yeah, i definitely see what you mean. I kind of like how it's over the top though :)

  • Brilliant.

  • I love her. She is perfect, absolutely!

  • can she sing so that it touches ones soul! oh yes she can!

  • Learning to do this one myself. She was incomparable!

  • today woke to hear this wonderful music seems that my day but is lighter. leave the house thinking how nice to hear good music pricipalmente this rarity.

  • 사랑해요 엘라

  • Ella <3

  • even I'am very young I love her voice....

  • maravilha !!!

  • What language is this? Because I know maravihosa (or something like that) in Spanish...

  • sweet sweet jazz... classic tune with a classic feel

  • her voice is rich and beautiful and although i've never heard this song b4, she sings it AAAMazing!

  • beautiful

  • Yo...... more horn players should listen to vocalists, especially ella, because that's what is lacking in modern horn players.

  • That's funny! I read Ella said she learned most from the horns. (or did you refer to this line?) Ella has a very special way of singing and I can't figure out what it is exactly: she speaks the words and she doesn't seem to hold back one inch. Upmost: she sings all her feelings out. She's my heroine!

  • Well... of course, but for her SCATTING. Not her overall SINGING. In fact, what's ironic is that even though she was a better singer (in my opinion, and many others) than Billie Holiday, Billie was prettier in the eyes of her days (before she overdosed 'dem drugs), which is why she was featured more than Ella in a lot of things. But Ella had a unique sound that horn players wanted to imitate.

  • billie holiday was prettier. ella was better.

  • holiday only had around a one octave range, but she used it masterfully, although ella was definitely better. they both had a broken quality about them, but band leaders were drawn only to billy by a desire to protect her because she was prettier. when they heard ella sing, though, they loved her just as much.
