  • you forgot the first part of this song!!!!! it;'s called Parable? oh man, that's the best part? I know they are listed as seperate songs but they arent.

  • @UnitedSovietParty It's not the one my brother was lookin for but, its the one i was looking for thanks. i dont remember song names all that well. but i love this band :)

  • @Moloch1123 Thank you. That's the one he thought :)

  • whats the song from them that kinda sounds like a static or bug zapper?? my brother is trying to find it..

  • @230CountryChick It's called "-Ion", or, alternatively, "Negative Ion".

  • @230CountryChick Faaip de Oiad

Its the freakish one with the Roswell dub. Or did you mean Useful Idiot?

  • im pretty sure this is anything but religious, saying that this life is our only holy experience. Live now and dont be stuck in the parabola that is the argument on spirituality. We just simply wont know, and anyone who isnt fucking braindead would know that abrahamic religions are bullshit.

  • @oftenlostinwhat because you said so, right? but hey, thanks for the generalization.

  • @zanitzeuken i was stoned, i dont even know what it means, but then again, im stoned right now, so i dont even know, what, your, sayin, ZANIZUKAN

  • retard its the album lateralus u shuld take this vid off. TOOL IS TO AWSOME FOR MISTAKES LIKE THIS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • phsss idc if the video had Aenema artwork or not the screen just reminds me of what we see after we try to sleep and after being on a pc to long and or watching tv.. bah

  • After reading all these "deep" conversations I remember why i stepped away from Tool. They still rock tho!

  • VERY PENIS!

  • What are those 11 people thinking, I'd love to know.

  • @novemberain718 interesting question, i guess a music piece like parabola simply goes beyond the scheme of "Like/Dislike". also i cannot consider it throughout "positive", its strong stuff and can easily trigger some kind of surpressed emotions maybe. probably the 11 people were dispositioned before they heard it and the song did not create, but trigger their experience with it. :D

  • that is wat he means cause life as we know it is all an ilusion its jus a super hologram (EVERY1) needs to be on there spirtutal level sience proves lifes a hologram these days but when this song was made n everything else he talks about was befor this fact was proin by sience only because of the spirutal level he on n he only got on hat ll by doing mt i promise u he didnt think like that until he did dmt. thats y this song is on lateralus lateralus the song is about n only about his dmt trip

  • love this, only problem is the tuning so i cant just grab my guitar and play :P

  • @all This song is about our experiences on earth and how it is a holy blessing, so while you are here embrace life. That means embrace the pains and joys as if they are one and the same. Your time will not last forever, but enjoy the chance and celebrate the heartaches and happiness that make you human!

  • this song is sick:)

  • I do not agree with the message this song projects. In one moment it's telling you to enjoy and to appreciate life, and in the next it disregards it, because "we are eternal".

Pain and pleasure are two sides of a coin. How can you ignore one and give in to the other? This does not seem to make sense to me. They do not seem very smart.

  • @dujl I THINK what they are saying is that people choose to live their lives but will go on, so they came to live but know they must eventually die and move on, its strange but I think thats what they mean. Sounds sort of like a mix of the 3 mono religions mixed with the far eastern ones

  • @dujl maybe you're wrong because actually they never imply to disregard life. Could be they're smarter than you.

  • @pch8r I bet you aren't even smart enough to understand the point I was making.

  • @dujl I'm smart enough to know they never imply to disregard life.

  • @pch8r What I'm saying is that they message brought forth here is contradictory.

  • @pch8r Contradictory or unclearly stated.

  • @pch8r hes not talking aboutthat verse but the message of the song as a whole, and that verse is not the general message of the sng all though it is a good one.

  • @dujl "Recognize this as a holy gift and celebrate this chance to be alive and breathing"... nope, I don't get your point.

  • @pch8r You weren't reading well. "Rember all this pain is an illusion". What is the difference between pain and pleasure? How can you have pleasure and not pain? The idea in itself is contradcitory. The message is contradictory. Do you understand?

  • @dujl Yes, I see your point.

"This body holding me reminds me of my own mortality.

Embrace this moment. Remember; we are eternal,

all this pain is an illusion."

I think he's simply saying to embrace life and even though pain in an aging body reminds that we won't live forever, there's more after we die.

  • one of my favorite tool songs.

  • Tool has always been my favourite band, and held so much meaning, but if its true maynard is christian then i am sorry but i will cast aside this band and all of its music forever. all meaning and respect i once held for Tool would be reduced to nothing.

  • @WatchSocietyBurn just because the song has the word "Holy" in it,that doen't mean it has anything to do with Christianity, and if you're going to cast aside something for a reason like that, especially Tool, then they obviously are not the band for you.

  • @Jason11190 There are many "Holy" Things for many peole... Myself could be holy for me, or my "Holy" Shit, or Holy (Satan, Allah, Budha, My relationship, my virginity, Jesus, God, My first anal sex e.t.c) I hope that you can understand me.

  • @Jason11190 Holy = Whole = Oneness :)

  • @ThePureJourney yeah.

  • @WatchSocietyBurn the meaning of these lyrics go deeper than one individual religion. while i doubt that maynard is a christian he is certainly spiritual. this is evidenced in most of their lyrics. they speak to the intelligent man (or woman in my case) they are all about exploring who you are and finding out what you believe for yourself rather than letting someone tell you what to believe. if you cast aside a band just because they are spiritual than you should just stop listening to music

  • Eleven people didn't appreciate this chance to be alive and breathing.

  • No human remembers how life began, we only have ides and theory's of what came before this "moment". Does a person remember their first thoughts? Do we have recall of womb to walking, thoughts of emotions or eternal? This Holy reality, experience? God knows us before, chooses us, to be here. Jesus said if you love God, We will make Our home in you. Jesus spoke in parables. Jesus endured pain, physical, emotional, spiritual. Holy gift, God's Holy and Perfect Spirit, a gift of life, true and pure!

  • my favorite guitar solo

  • I interpret this song to be a mixed experience: first an out of body (possibly induced by dmt) ...and ending up becoming possessed by a demon. He then reminds himself that he appreciates his mortal life...and enjoys the experience once he realizes he is able to return to his body.

  • I hope you know this song is on Lateralus not aenima

  • 11 peoples body is not holding them

  • @beanboy9487 or perhaps holding them too tightly

  • This is the most amazing song ever created...no wonder the astronauts chose this song to awake to when orbiting Earth in February of 2010 :D This song is literally out of this world!!!!

  • @legalizeit727

Tell me more about the astrronauts. Tool are one of the most interesting and thought provoking bands around. Can anyone tell me of another band i should be checking out

  • @TheSimonRowell

different style music but good songwriters -- artist = Clutch song = Burning Beard

  • @5thhorsman yeah! Clutch is on my list of bands i would like to see one day... :D along with Tool, Ratm and Opeth :)

  • @5thhorsman Clutch is awesome... love their writing style and the music is quite amazing also

  • @TheSimonRowell The only bad thing I can think of regarding Tool is that there's nowhere to go after you've experienced them. Nobody even comes close. At least there's a new album on the way.

  • @JohnMontgomeryDoe There's a new album?! o.o I can't wait.

  • all the pain is an illusion...brrm brrm brm brrrrrrrm...

I love this song...it is not only singing but there is like in other songs of Tool something extra...♥something so "sexy" and wonderful...:D

  • aaaaaliiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiive!

  • All time favorite TOOL song. The end solo is just... Amazing. ♥

  • I knew about Tool awhile ago but When I played Guitar Hero World Tour......wow

  • All 11 people who voted thumbs down are dead to me.

  • @alwaysiron No worries, if they can't appreciate this, they are dead even to themselves!!

  • thumbs up if you want to play this song and your parents say "shut up kid "

  • First song I ever heard by Tool, still love the living hell out of it. Gives me inspiration. True art!

  • @reaverwes mine was anema first song i ever heared lol

  • don´t worry about the mistake :-D

  • we really are eternal souls and all this pain on this earth really is an illusion of the planetary reality

  • i remember in middle school talking shit about tool. saying how bad their music is and how i hate how long their songs are... now they are my favorite band. i like almost every song they have.

  • Maynard saved my life.

  • @Sealiuhh

he realized, that theres no me, or you, then, something channeld through , all that separates us, is air... from the darkness of the cave age, to the light era.

  • @Sealiuhh Fuck YEA!

  • @Sealiuhh HELL YUSH! SAVED MINE TOO!

  • it's ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLIVVVVVVVVVVVVVVE, I....you left out a very important lyric..."I"

  • I put this on when everything falls apart. This body, this body holding me, be my reminder that i am not alone.

  • This song makes me strangely happy

  • i wish they would put tool on itunes!

  • i cabt understand how someone can hate such a piece of pure prefection

  • Comment removed

  • lol still great work despite the album confusion :)

  • Life = a2x + bx + c

  • @Draalnexa hmm

    isnt the equation-ax2+bx+c?

  • @ivanguliashki

yes it is. Stupid typo - didn't notice, but rekognise this as a holy gift and celebrate this chance to be... able to make them... :P

  • @ivanguliashki ax^2 + bx + c

  • so i figured out the 9 thumbs down.. they are 50 cent, lil wayne fans........ explains a lot...

Rock on Tool! : ) incredible lyrics!!!!

  • wow

  • For the 8 people who disliked this pain wont be an illusion for long (:

  • @VeStAgOd good comment that was clever lol

  • I mostly listen to classical music but even I can appreciate this

  • @Mrgids345 Tool is what I imagine metal would have sounded like if it had existed in the times of beethoven, mozart, bach, etc... just look at their song structure, the time signatures they use, and how they often interchange (listen to 46 & 2)... Tool is fucking classic

  • @Mrgids345 i listing to 90's hip hop and i love tool, specialy this album in particular it is my fav tool album.

  • @Mrgids345 Fuck. Yes.

  • @Mrgids345 yeah me to dude, but tool and a perfect circle are amazing you would be a fool not to listen to them.

  • @Mrgids345 Exactly.

  • i get such goosebumps when he sings "ALIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIVE!!!!"

  • @pawc91 I never got goosebumps from music until this song, and now I can get them from others.

  • I believe the song describes the difference between soul and body. Suggesting they are two separate entities and any pain felt by the body will fade away as the soul lives on. The body is merely a vessel for the soul while it is alive. After death the soul lives on. Very spiritual and really goes along with the theme of the Lateralus album which to me is all about self reflection and discovering more about life through discovering more about our selves.

  • @zetectool exactly how i interput it.

  • This song literally brings me to tears every time I hear it.. <3

  • uh, one major flaw, parabola is not from the album aenema as the video says in the begining. the artwork is from the wrong album as well. just an observation...

  • I cant get enough tool!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @mcraig306 Right on.

  • A parabola can "point" upward or downward. It points upward (or opens downward) if "a" is less than zero for a quadratic in standard form; conversely, it points downward (or opens upward) if "a" is greater than zero.

The maximum and minimum values for a downward- and upward-opening parabola (respectively) are (h,k), which is the vertex.

Additionally , the word "parabola" is derived from the New Latin word meaning "balance", which would make more sense in the context of the Tool song.

    : P

  • A parabola may also open left or if, if you interchange x and y in the equation.

  • HOT

  • He's talking about enlightenment. You cannot possibly understand. You have to see it

  • wen i turn this song on my dog starts wagging its tail and taps its back foot on the ground haha i gess even my dog likes tool soo fuck all the haters

  • any1 who's been to Hawley Middle School in the last 8 years would know this is Mr. Johnson's ringtone. TOOL FTW(also geometry :P)

  • @TAL1NGAR grats for able to read description...

  • @TAL1NGAR thanks a lot dipshit, like we didn't read the description.

  • Recommended to you because you watched "Pot Smoking Baby."

    Fucking lol youtube.

  • The

    Opposite

    Of

    Lame

  • @mcraig306

No this is exactly what not to do with Tool songs. Stop overanalyzing and thinking so much and enjoy the music.

  • @cjgone2

    Finally, someone smart.

  • @cjgone2 They even say that in their fucking songs xD "Overthinking, overanalyzing seperates the body from the mind..." I'm with you, some people don't get it :P

  • @kcool134 most people dont get it

  • That's OK, sinzorak. I love both albums equally. <3

  • I blurted out singing this in my English class. My teacher was wondering where I got such powerful words...

  • @twigy95 How old are you, out of curiosity? (just to make myself feel old...lol)

  • @twigy95 you're so unique and deep

  • @twigy95 i did it in math the teacher asked me what the answer was i stood up and started singing this holy reality in this holy experience XD then i got sent to the office

  • @twigy95 i did the same thing exept in spanish class was hilarious

  • @twigy95 fuck yeah!!

  • @twigy95 Hehe :) My old account...how i miss you... - Twigy95

  • @twigy95 i sung this 3 years ago at my stuped day care they thoughi was a eneous cause i could say experience

  • @twigy95 No you fucking didn't. I call bullshit.

  • @Semjaaza Lmao thank you. Pretty sure if he did that the teacher would've wondered what he was talking about, not what he said about having powerful words. He really sang 4 minutes worth of lyrics? I declare bs too lol

  • ALL of you are dip shits. Maynards battle WAS him trying to find god and god not responding because of circumstances. He got SOBER and found God threw N.A. and now lives with the burden of having to tell the whole world the details of our ending. He says in rosseta stoned, " overwhelmed as one would be place in my position, such a heavy burden to be the one. BORN to bear and bring to all, the details of out ending. To write it down for all the world to see.''

  • This song kicks so much ass it's insane!!! Long live Tool!!!!

  • deep song is deep...

  • 'bout sex dude.

  • Christian lyrics!!!!!!AWESOME

  • @1patrat I think your mistakened...

  • @1patrat

    Um....WTF?

  • @scorpioelite TOOL , KEEP SINGING TO THE GLORY OF GOD!!!!!! YOUR FANS WILL STICK WITH YOU EVEN AFTER YOU TELL THE THE TRUTH ABOUT YOU DEEP LOVE OF JESUS.THANK YOU JESUS!!!

  • @1patrat Jesus is known as the son of god... but we are all children of god... so directing spiritual love spicificaly twords the character of one being by the name of Jesus is stupid.. that's why christianity is stupid... the story of Jesus may or may not be true.. even if it is... there have been people who've suffered far beyond what he has.. you don't worship them tho... oh yeah.. i can't imagen what you think god looks like lol.. let me guess.. old guy.. grey beard?

  • @m3tallih0lic Sorry but no man has gone through the torture that Jesus endured. The reason being that no man could go through that and live as he has done. Also the proof of "the Jesus story " is over whelming.I do know what God looks like ,he is a spirit with glory so bright no mans eyes can look upon it.I rebuke the demonic spirit speaking through you in the Name of JESUS CHRIST.Go back to hell you demon spirit and leave that child of God alone.

  • @1patrat no... jesus was nailed to a cross and whipped while having some thorns on his head... innocent people have been burned... have had big objects shoved in their private areas... have had their heads bashed in with a hammer to the point they are literally drowning in their own blood.. hateful things carved into them.. there are real things that make the story of Jesus's crucafixtion look like disney land bud.. lol the fact you tried to perform an exorcism on me over youtube proves ur dumb

  • @m3tallih0lic I'm glad you recognize that there is a demonic spirit over you.

  • @1patrat i'm glad i recognized you're a moron so i can stop replying to your stupidity..

  • @m3tallih0lic JESUS LOVES YOU,JESUS LOVES YOU,JESUS LOVES YOU,JESUS LOVES YOU,JESUS LOVES YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hope I see you in heaven...

  • @m3tallih0lic Dont get me wrong im not some christianity pushing nut but are you seriously trivializing being crucified whipped until blood is pouring from you and you can barely stand beaten and forced to carry a large wooden cross uphill then nailed to it with large spikes driven through your body and left to die hanging from the spikes that nail you to this cross disney land huh so apparently you would like to be crucified for vacation.

  • @Deranged360 key words.. "compared to"... and i don't want to hear that "forced" shit.. with how "godly" he was changing rocks to fruit and what not (so they say) he practically volunteered... being the son of god and all, i'm pretty sure he coulda whooped some ass.. but did he fight back? no.. if you knew somebody was going to try and kill you, would you sit there and let them or AT LEAST FIGHT to the death? me.. i'd FIGHT to the death!

  • @m3tallih0lic Bra this 1patrat guy is a fucking joke....not everybody gives a shit about religion....tool is the shit....

  • @1patrat There is a fine line between religion and insanity, you've crossed both lines, trying to exercise a "demon" from someone over the internet, you're probably one of those people who try and seem bigger then they are, when in fact your just like the other brainless fucks who follow blindly behind a book that has no date of origin. Keep your religion in its proper area, the internet is not the proper area.

  • @sykosyn Wouldn't your same argument be used also for someone believing 'blindly' in science more than religion? Both science and religion are theories. When it comes to explaining the beginning of the world and life as we know it, no human alive today was alive to witness either theories' explanations of why we exist. Neither is more wrong or more right than the other. We just don't know. And we never will. So, people choose to side with one option over the other that fits their ideals better.

  • @EmberPhoenix74 Meh religion is a hoax if you ask me. No way to actually account for anything you're right. But science is seeing and believing, whilst religion is blindly following behind another man/woman's words. Which in itself is just a waste of time. I won't argue on religion, it only lands people in the "hot seat". And as for science i wont even go into it. It's torn between two sides, both have flaws, and both have lies. It's people like me who stand aside and watch the masses

  • @sykosyn No! We must not feed the religious troll lest he gain power and rise up over the masses! :P

  • @m3tallih0lic i'm with you, but seriously arguing with somebody who tried to banish a demon from you over the internet is such a waste of time.

And yes people have suffered far worse that jesus supposedly did, far worse- many done by the Catholic church in the spanish inquisition.

Seriously though, enjoy the music- and let the creationsists believe hitler was an atheist. Everybody knows how retarded their ideas are but them...

  • @squash124 haha no kiddin.. that's why i ended it

  • the alblum is lateralus ...not Aenima dumbass

  • @malan45 ur beyond retarded bad enough people like u dont read discreptions but u dont read annotations how dumb are u

  • How the fuck do you dislike this song? let alone Tool?

  • i Love tool!!!!

  • fibonacci sequance has nothing to do with parabola.....

  • If u guys like this u should watch our tribute to tool. (Brüzz - Minus) its called minus cuz parabola is a math term so we made fun of the name but tool is one of the greatest bands in the world. Go to our channel and click Brüzz - Minus (Tribute to Tool). I cant add the hyperlink though cuz it wont let me

  • Tool is coming to vancouver this friday I beleive

I will most definately be there to scream til I lose my voice

    to the classics! cheers

  • to the 7 people that disliked this! You Should die!

  • @conxproooo 247-7....maybe they misclicked its not hard to make a mistake considering most tool fans are intoxicated cause lets be honest if youve heard of tool you like them if you dont like this kind of music you wouldnt even know who they are

  • i know he got the album wrong( he corrected it though), but he was spot on with the lyricsgive him credit for that

  • this ROCKS

  • A parabola is a mathmatical curve that can quickly accelerate to infinity... Or so my nerdy friend tells me. Sortta like the fabucci (however the hell you spell it) numbers. Our spirit is like a parabola.

  • @AnaLilia813 fibonacci?XD

  • Shouldn't we be focusing on the awesomeness of this song instead of the damn album picture?

  • Omg im amazed he got the name of the song right! jk

  • That's not even the song u idiot

  • Tks =)

  • What a magnificent piece of music. As for the meaning, start with learning what you are, be in the now and from that perspective come back to this. Find Eckhart Tolle on youtube and listen to everything you can of his, read his book Power of Now, and you'll start to get a feeling for it. There's more. Much more, bu
