I believe the song describes the difference between soul and body. Suggesting they are two separate entities and any pain felt by the body will fade away as the soul lives on. The body is merely a vessel for the soul while it is alive. After death the soul lives on. Very spiritual and really goes along with the theme of the Lateralus album which to me is all about self reflection and discovering more about life through discovering more about our selves.

I believe the song describes the difference between soul and body. Suggesting they are two separate entities and any pain felt by the body will fade away as the soul lives on. The body is merely a vessel for the soul while it is alive. After death the soul lives on. Very spiritual and really goes along with the theme of the Lateralus album which to me is all about self reflection and discovering more about life through discovering more about our selves.

When it comes to explaining the beginning of the world and life as we know it, no human alive today was alive to witness either theories' explanations of why we exist.
