  • A really cool idea, and a gorgeous render. This would make for some awesome free film effects. Too bad Hollywood would rather spend millions for something much less cool.

Anyway, I've always felt that there was some great Blendering waiting to be done with the Life algorithm. Not surprised to find Dr. Funkboxing first at the scene :)

  • @MartianStories - Thanks a lot MartianStories. I've always found 'Conways Life' be very beautiful and as soon as I saw dynamic paint I started thinking this would be a fun effect. Next I think I'll do a 'planet' that gets hit with a 'conways meteor' and watch the life spread out on the planet. Since I wrote the code in c++ I'll also try to get this into blender. Maybe as a 'generated' texture but I may have to make it a physics system since it needs a cache.

Anyway glad you liked it. 2.61 rules!

  • @funkboxing That's a great idea. The way I look at it, you're a scientist who does basic research and invents new systems. Like all scientists, there is no way to know what use a new discovery might have down the road. I think there would be any number of amazing uses for Life. Who knows what some of the crazier Blenderheads might do with it. If you made Life as a texture, or like a particle system, anything could happen. Could it interact with your Lightning Gen? Influence it?
