I wonder, if you lie on a raft perfectly still, the squid still can grab you and eat you. It shows quite an intelligence. I don't think a white shark would recognice you on a raft when you are still.

the squid that attacked the fregatte must have been very large. the ship is huge and must be misunderstood by the giant squid for a sperm whale because of sonar. or it chilled on surface and were crashed by the ship and attacked instinctively.
