Damn. This game doesn't seem so interesting now that i have played it to like the 9th level on my brother's PC and now that i have one that's much better...this game's BORING.So some other game i will get mhmm
Custom config isn't like very high. Install win vista/7 and see if you get "40-60 fps" on benchmark you gonna get maximum 30 fps with everything on max (w/o AA). No use overkilling with the numbers dude :p
@mitko1251 I played Crysis on Very High 4x anti-aliasing yesterday on my HD 5870 and I got between 30 and 65 fps, this was on the first level, the Island.
@micuentadeyou There is no difference at all in the graphics between 32 and 64bits. The benefit with 64bit is that it can use much more memory than 32bits and it can also process much more data than 32bits. When you run a 32bit application in 64bit version of Windows it gets access to 4GB ram instead of 2GB when running it on 32bit Windows. The 32bit application must be "large address aware" to be able to use 4GB ram on 64bit Windows otherwise it can only use 2GB ram.
@YaAkOvXsTYle I can play at Very High on Windows XP because I use tweaks for Crysis that makes it less demanding. Strange that it lags on low settings on your machine.
+@utltrarama tweaks?? Would I need tweaks if I use Windows 7 Ultimate? Also, I do have a question. I have the Athlon 64 X2 4600+, if I get an MSI 4870 Cyclone and Mobo along with a 4 gb ddr3 memory, will I get something close to this?
@Destroysall You don't need tweaks to run on Very High in Windows 7. You can tweak to increase the performance in Crysis. At TweakGuides there is a complete guide on how to tweak Crysis.
@utltrarama one more question. if i were to get the athlon ii x4 640 and a 5670, will everything look just like the way you have it? I do plan to upgrade to entirely better system, but I want something that will last me for the mean time.
@Destroysall of course it is, but it also costs 80 dollars more, but if your gonna pay that much, grab an ati hd5870 and blow that 460 out of the water, the 5850 costs exactly the same on average and performs nearly the same as the 460 with default clocks and average quality level, but crank the graphics up and the 5850 really starts outperforming the 460, overclocked it starts pulling further ahead of the 460 :)
@HenkSpankK 460 over the 5770 or 4870 unless you honestly wanna spend a lil more and get 2 5770s they are the best performing cards paired and best overclocking cards in history
@nyran125 There are some things that doesn't show in in DX9 on Crysis, for instance the light effects from explosion like in the end sequence in the game when the big mother ship crashes. This shows even more in Crysis Warhead since they use these effects even more there. Other then that you get a lot more performance from DX9 and the light effects is not that important unless you want all the eye candy.
YAY finally someone not fckin running DX10 on this damn game. Now you get to see real performance and the way Crysis was meant to be played. Barely any difference between DX10 and DX9 in this game accept lighting.
@GTXGamingHD If you read the ino you see that I use a tweak to make the game run smoother. The link I added to the tweak cant be downloaded any more since they re-designed the site and removed all tweaks people made.
@superbeast234z On medium quality at a resolution of 1440x900 you get around 22 frames per second with your card, this is according to a review of HD 5570. Game tested in the review was Crysis Warhead.
@utltrarama Hey man, love the video, I was planning on buying the same type of CPU you have in this video (possibly video card as well), but I was wondering how much it costs now (most sites would say "product unavailable" lol). I currently have a Compaq Presario (Windows XP sp3), Genuine Intel(R) CPU 2140 @ 1.60 GHz, 2 GB of RAM, and I currently have an Nvidia Geforce 8500gt.
@KRandMJ Thanks. Yeah the HD 4870 isn't available any more. The AMD Phenom II X4 955 BE is available and at a great price. I've upgraded my computer since I made this video. Still have the same cpu but upgrade to ATi HD 5870, AM3 motherboard, 8GB DDR3 1600Mhz, 1000 watt psu and new 1920x1080 23" monitor. The great thing with with AMD Phenom II X4 955 BE is that it has 2 memory controllers, one for DDR2 and one for DDR3. That makes it easy to go from DDR2 to DDR3 without having to buy a new cpu.
@utltrarama cool, thanks man...So it is possible to upgrade my Genuine Intel CPU 2140 @ 1.60 (I couldn't find a shorter name for it anywhere lol) to a AMD Phenom II X4 955 BE or an AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ right? Sorry if im being a pest, I just wanna be sure lol
@KRandMJ No you cant use a AMD processor on a motherboard for Intel processors. You have to get a motherboard for AMD processor and I recommend you get a AMD Phenom II X3 or X4 or Ahtlon II. If you get a motherboard for DDR3 with AM3 cpu socket you will have to get DDR3 memory modules if you don't already have DDR3 on your current computer. i know this is much to consider but you'll learn in time. You can get a lot of info on Internet about building your own computer.
@WindowsErrorFixer It will lag on Very High and 1920x1080(1080p) on HD 4870. When I got my 1920x1080 lcd monitor and I ran Crysis on very High on my HD 4870 it lagged a lot so I bough a HD 5870 to fix that problem.
Hey everyone, I'm thinking about upgrading my computer. What do I need to upgrade so my computer can run this video card and play games like Crysis on very high settings? My rig is a Compaq Presario (Windows XP) Duo core, Genuine Intel(R) CPU 2140 @ 1.60 GHz, 2 GB of RAM, and I currently have an Nvidia Geforce 8500gt. Thanks people...
Yes you can play Crysis on Very High on Windows XP, you need to get a custom configuration file(autoexec.cfg or system.cfg). You can either create one your self or download one. Look at the link in info pane on the right for my video. There you'll find a tool that will install a custom configuration file for you and you can chose between several different configurations that fit your pc the best.
Yes the HD 4870 and Phenom II X4 955 BE would be better but only by small margin. HD 4870 is about 6 frames per seconds faster then HD 5770 in Crysis Warhead. But with HD 5770 you get DX11 and eyefinity if you want to use that.
@utltrarama yO~ dude can you help me plz!¿ basically i wanna build a new pc focusing it for starcraft 2 and playing it at ultra and i wanna buy this GPU also i can buy HD 4890 so wich one you recomend me and why, what about DX issue and those things? I will be waiting your replie so plz help me
Wired, I have a Hiper HPU-4M580 580 watt PSU and it runs just fine with my XFX Radeon HD 5870 XT. It worked just fine with my Sapphire Rafeon HD 4870 too. Have checked the manual how to connect you card correctly. I know that if you connect it wrong you get problems. Be sure that the connections from the psu to your card isn't shared with other units.
I've just upgraded to XFX HD 5870 XT, Crysis runs fine at 1920x1080 Very High 8x Anti-Aliasing 24-50 fps but I get occasional stutter in the graphics, I think it's because of that I only have 6GB DDR2 800Mhz memory. I need to upgrade my motherboard and to DDR3 to get better performance in Crysis. I also need to upgrade mu power supply. Other games runs just fine.
Because the game looks so much better with Anti-Aliasing, besides the frame rate only drops 3-5 frames with Anti-Aliasing on. To run Crysis in dx9 on Windows 7 just add " -dx9" without the quote marks to the target in your shortcut to Crysis.
hey leo, i am a nvidia boy, but from all accounts, i have heard that the HD4870 runs it fairly well. May not be on Very High, but still looks gorgeous.
Rofl, i mean, if you wanna plan for the future games and get a card like this for 180$, then go ahead XD, but if u wanna get a 50$ card that will last about 3 years until it will start to get like 40 FPS on very high, lol, ATI Radeon 3850, Ownage
You'd be better of with the Core i5 750. The other thing is on what resolution you are going to play Crysis in. I havePhenom II X4 955 BE @ 3.6Ghz and HD 4870 and I recently upgraded to a 23 inch 1920x1080 lcd monitor so now I have to get a HD 5870 to be able to play Crysis in Very High DX10 @ 1920x1080 at a good fps.
Thing is, that the new i core series supports single core boost and has a better interface, so it can power up single cores to over 3ghz if the others are not neede, like its case with most games. so i'd say icore too. I don't think yould be able to play on high end with second one, i have a similiar processor and it doesn't work.
A similar function called Cool and Quiet in AMD processors. Turn it on and the all core's drop to 1Ghz and when a application needs one, two, three or four cores the speed is adjusted dynamically depending what the application needs. To bad that this doesn't work when you overclocked the cpu. By the way AMD has used Cool and Quiet since Athlon 64.
Well actually your right, if he really just wants to game i don't think it would even make sense to buy a quadcore. For usual Gaming i'd reccomend e86000 DUal Core. If u clock it up a bit ist would be better for him. Most games do not use quadcores now. If u don't have singleboost i don't think he could use a quad core sensefull.
neh i think u can buy Q9400 and have more money for better card maybe HD4890 :) GTX's are doesnt so good .. the price is sooo big.. if this was chose i will choose Quad9400 and better card:) and what about MOBO ?
Wel If you call it a hack to have a custom cfg in windows xp. It's nothing strange about it really, all you do is to set the diffrent commands for the various effects you want in Crysis like sunshaft to be used in your game via the custom cfg.
You should have no problem running it. How good it will run depends on how high resolution you will play the game at. I have a lcd montior with 1920x1080 resolution and it's lagging on Very High because of that HD 4870 cant cope it.
Waste of money. The prices on all those components will drop like rocks in the coming months, and you'll feel like a fool for spending $300 on a video card when you could've gotten the slightly less quality 4870 card for half that.
What I meant was it's not worth spending twice as much on. And no, it is a FACT that it is not twice as powerful. You probably go by the 2GB as your source for that, don't you? -_-
Also, LOL @ the GTX295 being more powerful than the 5870! The Radeon 5000 series cards are more powerful than anything Nvidia has released thus far. We'll have wait until Nvidia releases their 300 series cards to compare.
No 1GB version and I mean the raw power of the hardware not benchmarks you've read on various sites. Anyway the drivers are still in beta for HD 5870 so there will be a lot of more power coming from the card when the drivers get better. The good thing with the 5000 series is that it supports DX11, DirectX Compute and Open CL.
Hey im thinking of buyin this card and when i see gameplay videos with this card people get like 30 fps? how can u get so much? is it because u play in dx9? if it is thats why.. then whats the difference?
Yeah you should be able to run it at that fps. And the awesome thing with this config it that you get all the effects like high detail shadows and graphics like on Very High on medium too.
Funny if Prophet pressed the wrong button and accidentally vaporized Nomad, himself, or Psycho.

Yes it's a very good card but you can get better like HD 4890 for almost the same price.
utltrarama 2 years ago
It's, but not for crysis. All the other games runs great, even fallout 3 and far cry 2.

over 60 frames only doing sli or crossfire.
paulordsf 2 years ago
I've just upgraded to XFX HD 5870 XT, Crysis runs fine at 1920x1080 Very High 8x Anti-Aliasing 24-50 fps but I get occasional stutter in the graphics, I think it's because of that I only have 6GB DDR2 800Mhz memory. I need to upgrade my motherboard and to DDR3 to get better performance in Crysis. I also need to upgrade mu power supply. Other games runs just fine.
utltrarama 2 years ago
nah, that wont be your ram, thats just bad drivers..some other people have the same problem
UsernameError69 2 years ago
Oh, thanks for the info =)
utltrarama 2 years ago
@utltrarama Why are you using aa on 1920x1080 resolution?Oh,and how to change from DX10 to DX9 on Windows 7?Please reply.
djaism 2 years ago
Because the game looks so much better with Anti-Aliasing, besides the frame rate only drops 3-5 frames with Anti-Aliasing on. To run Crysis in dx9 on Windows 7 just add " -dx9" without the quote marks to the target in your shortcut to Crysis.
utltrarama 2 years ago
Or just go in the folder and go to "Bin32" folder and run crysis.exe. :)

I think you'll get extremely low frame rate with your integrated graphics card. Maybe you can play Crysis on Very High in a low resolution.

hey leo, i am a nvidia boy, but from all accounts, i have heard that the HD4870 runs it fairly well.

Witch one is best?
Intel Core i5 750 2.66 GHz
4 GB RAM
Nvidia GeForce GTX 260 896MB DDR3
Windows 7 home premium 64-bit
Intel Core™ 2 Quad Q9400 2,66GHz
4GB RAM
Gainward GeForce GTX 260 896MB
Windows 7 home premium 64-bit
Would I be able to play crysis on highest settings with one of these?
andemannen1 2 years ago
You'd be better of with the Core i5 750. The other thing is on what resolution you are going to play Crysis in. I havePhenom II X4 955 BE @ 3.6Ghz and HD 4870 and I recently upgraded to a 23 inch 1920x1080 lcd monitor so now I have to get a HD 5870 to be able to play Crysis in Very High DX10 @ 1920x1080 at a good fps.
utltrarama 2 years ago
Thing is, that the new i core series supports single core boost and has a better interface, so it can power up single cores to over 3ghz if the others are not neede, like its case with most games. so i'd say icore too. I don't think yould be able to play on high end with second one, i have a similiar processor and it doesn't work.
StPauli4ever32 2 years ago
A similar function called Cool and Quiet in AMD processors. Turn it on and the all core's drop to 1Ghz and when a application needs one, two, three or four cores the speed is adjusted dynamically depending what the application needs. To bad that this doesn't work when you overclocked the cpu. By the way AMD has used Cool and Quiet since Athlon 64.
utltrarama 2 years ago
Humm? Really? Interesting. Well however, think if he has to choose between these two he'd be better of with icore.
StPauli4ever32 2 years ago
Depends if you compare price against value. I mean look at the cpu I have Phenom II X4 955 BE @ 3.2Ghz you can buy it for 175 Euro.
utltrarama 2 years ago
Well actually your right, if he really just wants to game i don't think it would even make sense to buy a quadcore. For usual Gaming i'd reccomend e86000 DUal Core. If u clock it up a bit ist would be better for him. Most games do not use quadcores now. If u don't have singleboost i don't think he could use a quad core sensefull.
StPauli4ever32 2 years ago
The same! look at the GHz
runedegroot 2 years ago
neh i think u can buy Q9400 and have more money for better card maybe HD4890 :) GTX's are doesnt so good .. the price is sooo big.. if this was chose i will choose Quad9400 and better card:) and what about MOBO ?
Davidopoland 2 years ago
well, is this better then?
AMD PHENOM II X4 955 @ 3.2 Ghz

this dosent make sence. you cant have very high settings with xp. enless you hack it.
shgjlsfg 2 years ago
Wel If you call it a hack to have a custom cfg in windows xp. It's nothing strange about it really, all you do is to set the diffrent commands for the various effects you want in Crysis like sunshaft to be used in your game via the custom cfg.

i think speed and strenght should go together.

powercolor radeon 4870 1gb gddr5
amd athlon x2 5000+ 2.6 ghz
2 gb 800 mhz ram
is that normal??? cuz i dont think so!
oh and btw MAYBE my PSU is bottlenecking it?!

i dunno if it can bottleneck but anyways!
pikeman383 2 years ago
its normal you cpu and ram are bottlenecking get a quad core and 4 gb ram :P then it will fly

@pikeman383 Are you running it in Directx 9 with Windows XP and what I suppose is the ultra high quality config?

can i run this game
3gig ram`
e7200 core 2duo @2,53 ghz
ati radeon 4870 1g ram
can i run this game as good
remco19 2 years ago
You should have no problem running it. How good it will run depends on how high resolution you will play the game at. I have a lcd montior with 1920x1080 resolution and it's lagging on Very High because of that HD 4870 cant cope it.

I would go for Windows 7, that's what I did. You get the same performance on Windows 7 as you did on Windows XP.

Intel i7 920 @ 3.8 ghz
XFX Radeon 5870 HD @ 1gb
6 gb ddr3 1800 mhz RAM
1 TB Samsung HD
I guess this motherfucker should run fluently.
Im getting the Radeon 5870 x2 as soon as its out
heroine1212 2 years ago
Waste of money. The prices on all those components will drop like rocks in the coming months, and you'll feel like a fool for spending $300 on a video card when you could've gotten the slightly less quality 4870 card for half that.
RogueFighter15 2 years ago
Slightly less quality? HD 5870 is more then twice as powerful as HD 4870 and It's almost as powerful as GTX295.
utltrarama 2 years ago
What I meant was it's not worth spending twice as much on. And no, it is a FACT that it is not twice as powerful. You probably go by the 2GB as your source for that, don't you? -_-
Also, LOL @ the GTX295 being more powerful than the 5870! The Radeon 5000 series cards are more powerful than anything Nvidia has released thus far. We'll have wait until Nvidia releases their 300 series cards to compare.
RogueFighter15 2 years ago
No 1GB version and I mean the raw power of the hardware not benchmarks you've read on various sites. Anyway the drivers are still in beta for HD 5870 so there will be a lot of more power coming from the card when the drivers get better. The good thing with the 5000 series is that it supports DX11, DirectX Compute and Open CL.
utltrarama 2 years ago
Hey im thinking of buyin this card and when i see gameplay videos with this card people get like 30 fps? how can u get so much? is it because u play in dx9? if it is thats why.. then whats the difference?
WhatCrowbar 2 years ago
I you read the info for my video you'll see that I use a custom cfg that increases the performance at very high.
utltrarama 2 years ago
thats totally awesome!
if i fix this config on a hd 4670 1gb gddr3
do u think i can play with over 40 fps on high-medium?
WhatCrowbar 2 years ago
Yeah you should be able to run it at that fps. And the awesome thing with this config it that you get all the effects like high detail shadows and graphics like on Very High on medium too.
utltrarama 2 years ago
okay so i got my rig upgraded now.. i got
AMD phenom II x3
HD 4870 512 GDDR5
2GB DDR3
And i get like 30 fps without config but when i download the CCC 2.21 the game crashes when it loads! :(
help
WhatCrowbar 2 years ago
Did you chose the correct config to install? DX9 for Windows XP or DX9/DX10 for Windows Vista. What lvl did you install? I use lvl5.
