Well done both of you i agree. Anything other than mohawk is a fake therefore a fauxhawk. But i don't know if your ganna be able to convince people that when they walk into a barbershop or anyother hairchutting place to ask for a lowhawk and their barber will know what it it.
It doesn't need a different name just because someone has curly or "ethnic" hair. A mohawk is a mohawk, anything else is a fauxhawk. So I guess by definition a mowhawk with no hard lines ("Lowhawk") would be a fauxhawk.
@Missy516 No. Because Faux is FAKE... and not a cut-in shape but a styling exercise. Any hair cut can be faux'ed buy grabbing a glop of gel and pushing it into the center. A Low Hawk is a sculpted in shape. And a Fro is when a low is done on curly textured hair. Feel free to watch the video again if needed. :)
@clipperguysays I've watched the video, and I don't agree, that's why I commented. I'm aware faux means FAKE, but thank you for clarifying that for me anyways. Definition #2 is not flawed. If you google mohawk that is the definition you will find unanimously from site to site. So I think it's safe to say most agree on that definition. Now, if we're going by definition, any haircut that doesn't meet those standards is in fact a FAKED mohawk. Mohawk-esque if you will lol. Making it a fauxhawk.
@Missy516 I am delighted that you do not agree & choose to engage in healthy, professional dialog. I totally agree that any hair cut that does not meet the mowhawk criteria is technically Fuax.
@Missy516 Due to the expanded popularity of ridgeline haircuts there is a need for expanded definitions & verbiage. It is my job & responsibility to lead that charge. And to your own point. Just because it is the definition found on the web does not make it right, true, proper or the best definition for clarity and application.
1. A member of a tribe of the most easterly of the Iroquois Five Nations, formerly resident along the Mohawk River, New York.
2. A hairstyle in which the head is shaved bare except for a strip of hair down the center of the scalp from the forehead to the nape of the neck. Sometimes called an Iro in reference to the Iroquois, from which the hairstyle is derived. If we're going by definition a mohawk is a mohawk, anything else would be a fauxhawk.
@Missy516 Definition #2 is flawed in that it says the sides are shaved bare... and many hawk styles have more hair on the sides than that and certainly do still qualify as hawks... Mows, Lows or Fros... Ivan
@clipperguysays The definition of mohawk is clear. So therefore by definition these many "hawk STYLES" that have more hair on the sides are exactly that...A style. Making them fauxhawks. Now I know that you're going to continue to post comments because you're the director of education for Andis and you need to defend the relevance of your videos, but you're wrong. Feel free to google lowhawk and tell me how many results you find related to hair. Other than yours of course.
@clipperguysays I laugh because that's only the name for it because you say so. I've never heard anyone else call it that, and you wont find another video on youtube of someone giving or receiving a "lowhawk". You won't find a definition for it anywhere either...except on Urban Dictionary. Feel free to check it. From what I can find the most widely accepted definitions of a mohawk are as follows:
@Missy516 You miss the point... as a hair cutter communication is the key. Any ability a cutter and client have to communicate more clearly is a benefit... and although I did not make it up... YES just because I say so IS in fact enough. In my position as director of education for andis I set trend and chart the future of hair cutting... so I DO get to decide how it is! :) Ivan
Exactly right I put a video up of that a few weeks ago. All the hawk cuts need to be edged up though to bring out the cut. Keep posted and subscribe to KENTHEBARBER no negative only positive info and comments
Frauking Heck! That was a brilliant explanation Ivan! I had no idea what these were and why they were called them names.
Thanks for taking the time out and sharing this info with us. Your passion and humour is awesome and, I'd have loved to have worked with you if you'd have been in the UK. You make me laugh and your skill is extraordinary.
