I am still laughing @ "Who needs a manual?" and later on while you were going through the controls in the lens.."Oh i dont know what this is.. guess i need the manual"... LOL !
this may sound stupid (im new to photography) but how do u focus on the eyes? whenever i try to manual focus, the picture comes back a tiny bit out of focus. can someone give me some tips?
I've heard from people who own this lens that you have to get a profesional camera (like D3 or D3x) in order to avoid AF-errors when shooting wide open.
This is bad, I would like to use in on my D7000, but if I have to use f/2.8 to get properly focused shots, I don't know... :(
Whats up Jared. I wanted to know why prime lenses are used by many pros. What is the big advantage? Also. for somebody who isn't going to spend a lot of money what is a good sub $1000 lense which i can use for both in and out door shots. thanx in advance.
@RainnMakerr Because the glass is higher quality. The best zoom lens is not as sharp, fast or colorful as the best prime. Thats how it is. And when you are on a budget it is also good to go for primes, because you get higher image quality for the price. A good start on a Nikon is the 35mm 1.8G or the 50mm 1.8G depending on your needs those are great lenses. You can probably get similar lenses for Canon as well. Great glass for a good price.
@Yazeed. Dude your name has a lot of influence on you. Not a lot of people know the history of your name. Respect others please. person in the video is trying to help the viewers. If you don't like the video then please say 'peace' and move on. it's that simple. Peace~
I have this lens in the "erlier"(version) to my D80, and I must say I can´t see or feel any difference to the new VRII version I tested. Anyway, both versions are great and with the TC-20E III it´s goes incredible! It works fine in any weather!
Apparently the vr2 aint much better than its predecessor, which was a fantastic lens. I can buy the vr"1" for £2800, whereas the vr2 is £4500, so its a no-brainer!
YOU know nothing about the old 200/2 and you say its shorter ect. . .if you are going to review a lens, let me give you a type-KNOW WTF it is used for. . .. it may be a great studio lens, but it is the best indoor sports lens on the planet. . . . but you wouldn't know that. . .if you never used the old 200, I doubt you are much of a photog. . you are embarrassing. .
jared..one more thing..i could not get a review on nikon 300mm f2.8 on youtube.. can you do a review on that lens..plus it would be great insight if you campare it with sigma 300mm f2.8 as it its nearly half its price.. is sigma lens nearly as good as nikon's..?
Hi jared... nice review. I want to know which nikon camera and lens combo is the best suited to get a black and white portrait shot..? I'm a big B/W fan and would like your opinion on it..
@ashwinshankar Get D7000 and 70-200 VR2. D7000 has the highest DR (dynamic range) in the nikon family. This will help you a lot when it comes to b&w photos.
@mirciusx the 300, as a indoor sports lens (0r any low light situation) isn't in the same league as the 200. The 200 is superior using every criteria known to photography. . .
@brianwoods82378 VR needs to be turned off also when you are doing panning shots or when you are using a tripod or if you subject is jumping around a lot....
Nice job on the review, Jared, but this f/2 lens is a full stop, not 1/4 stop, faster than the f/2.8 you compared it to. Might want to review the all-too-confusing math used to derive f-stops. Briefly, the f-stop is a ratio of the lens focal length to it's aperture diameter. This lens is a focal length of 200 mm and the max aperture is about 100 mm. 200/100 = 2. If the ratio was 2.8, the aperture would be about 71 mm (200/71 = 2.8). While the diameter isn't cut in half, the amount of light is.
@kentak47 ...Why? Because the amount of light passing through the iris of a lens of a given focal length is determined by the area of the opening, not the diameter. Area = pi x radius^2. If you double the diameter (thus the radius, too) you get four times as much light since 2^2 is 4. That's why an f/2 lens is two stops faster than an f/4. One stop more (f/2.8) doubles the exposure, and another stop more (f/4) doubles it again. Got it? ;-)
@JaredPolin Yeah, I know. The F-stop scale is totally non-intuitive. Think how confusing it is to photography newbies. We tell them ISO 400 is twice as sensitive as ISO 200 (makes sense), and that 1/400 sec shutter speed is twice as fast as 1/200 (makes sense as long as you know fractions), and then we tell them f/2 is twice the exposure of f/2.8. The numeral relationship is goofy and the direction seems wrong. Quick! What's half the exposure of f/9? LOL
@pogi09282805724 No. The radius is, of course, always half the diameter. If the diameter of a circle is 100mm, the radius is 50mm. If you double the diameter to 200mm, the radius is 100mm, double what it was before.
@pogi09282805724 If you mean that doubling the diameter of a circle quadruples the *original* radius, that is true, but irrelevant. When you double the *radius* of a circle, you quadruple the *area* of the circle, which relates to lens aperture in that the area of the opening determines exposure. Increasing an aperture from 20 to 28 mm doubles the exposure (1 f-stop) because that doubles the area of the opening.
Mr Fro you did the unboxing of the D7000. But when is the full review coming up? I thought you would discuss this camera a lot more in detail. Why keep us waiting??
Awesome. Thanks for this. Unfortunately this will have to go on my "When hell freezes over" list of stuff I wan't.. But it is at the top of that list.
you call this a review?? seriously?? youre just standin there and sniffin the lens damn thats why i stick to lilkiwiguy87's reviews because it's how a lens review is done
@Jmozzari As far as I remember, lilkiwiguy's videos consist mainly of poorly written, horribly boring text. Not to mention obnoxious and unnecessary soundtracks. At least Jared exudes personality and actually talks. I don't look at YouTube videos so I can read.
@GrimsditchImages i am pretty sure the lilkiwiguy is deaf thats sorta why he doesnt talk. But i wonder if the person above watched the full video to see the results from the lens, who knows.
It reminds me of one of those Russian dolls where you start out with something massive and then you end up with a 'small' lens at the end. It's still pretty big, but I was expecting something huge considering the size of that camera bag.
Nikon glass is WAY overpriced. Take a look at some real Canon glass (the 200 F/2) Oh wait.....it's $6000 too. haha I wonder which one is better? I would like to see a comparison. Wow! Cool lenses.
@Xndingo11 You have to put in drop in filters id you want use them. They are placed inside the lens near where it connects to the camera. No screw on filter would go on this lens.
I noticed that the ISO changed between the images. Do you manually changed it depending of the situation or set a max value and auto? Because I would never think of changing the ISO because I thought the lighting condition was about the same in the shop?
@heuykiller I always set my own ISO, I would not think about shooting in auto ISO. For the test I dropped the ISO slower to show how the VR works. Other times depending on location i bump my ISO higher to get the desired shutter speed. i have a lot of leeway in the D3s to go higher and higher with the ISO to get a fast enough SS to freeze action.
I noticed that the ISO changed between the images. Do you manually changed it depending of the situation or set a max value and auto? Because I would never think of changing the ISO because I thought the lighting condition was about the same in the shop?
I think this lense comes with a new protection filter on front doesnt it? or was it the 200-400 version II?
and .. regarding users Manual .. last time I didnt read a lens manual I screwed up my VR system cause I never read one should only activate the VR motor without a tripod or monopod (I used the later) so.. I would read a 6k usd lens manual for sure
BTW, great new color for the Tshirt!! I want one.. as soon as I know they can get to mexico :(
hey Jared, thanks for all the videos that you do. if possible can you test it with teleconverters? i am debating whether or not to get this, 200mm, or the 300 2.8.
Damn When i was shooting with Nikon's a 1,800$ lens are expensive and a 6000$ lens was Sick expensive ..... but now with leica's a 21mm f/1.4 is 6000$ which is retarded :P
I have the 135mm f2 dc and the 200 f2. Somehow for portraits the 135mm f2 wide open manages better results. For everything else the 200 is just great. The 200 is huge lens to carry around: you get some free exercise with it.

I noticed that the ISO changed between the images. Do you manually changed it depending of the situation or set a max value and auto? Because I would never think of changing the ISO because I thought the lighting condition was about the same in the shop?
Thanks!

I want one.. as soon as I know they can get to mexico :(
Thanks for your review Fro great work as always

hey Jared, thanks for all the videos that you do. if possible can you test it with teleconverters? i am debating whether or not to get this, 200mm, or the 300 2.8.
aaguirre123 1 year ago
@aaguirre123 i personally do not like teli converters.
JaredPolin 1 year ago
@JaredPolin thanks for your response. so teliconverters would decrease the quality? also what do you think about capture nx2?

6k is a bit steep for most...You can get a whole kit for that sort of money.24-70 2.8, 70-200 2.8, 135 2 , 50 1.2 and a nice meal.
Still... a sweet sweet lens, no argument there :)

I have the 135mm f2 dc and the 200 f2. Somehow for portraits the 135mm f2 wide open manages better results. For everything else the 200 is just great. The 200 is huge lens to carry around: you get some free exercise with it.

It's a full stop faster than the 70-200 f/2.8.
lumow 1 year ago
@lumow is that considered a full stop form 2 to 2.8I guess it is, sounds good to me.
JaredPolin 1 year ago
@JaredPolin isn't a full stop equal to f/4
