Does anyone know where his guitar is on display i so want a picture of me next to it his album calling card was the first record i ever bought when i was 14 in 1975 ah sweet wonderful memories of summer bedroom windows open stereo up full net curtains blowing in the wind.
i need 2500 euro's to buy his signature guitar....... and i played on it in the musicstore
YOU KNOW WHAT? im gonna learn a rory G song, go to the music store and record a vid with his signature guitar! =D who wants to see the vid? AND what song shall i play?
What a story for memoborilla fans, like between being the first strat in ireland & getting stolen twice, used & abused (in a godly way) for 30+ years & stripped of its paint by usage and as literal as you can get to the phrase ''blood sweat & tears'' this guitar has GOT to be one of the best stories.
Like hendrix & fire is all good, thats just tricks & showmanship. Rorys Strat though is pretty much an epic tale.
the axe is a "61" strat , if my memory serves me correctly. i read once that he saw this "group" that wanted to buy it and paint it a "salmon" color to match their tuxedos they wore. he said he refused to allow that to be done to such a nice instrument.
cool guitar. love to have one like that. mine might end up that way. that is, if i put it out in the rain, have it pinched, and, not clean it. this strat puts me in mind of one of S.R.V's.
Very cool video....I saw Rory at the Bayou in D.C. in the late '70s,but followed him since Taste...The last few years I've reviewed his dvd releases for EagleVision...A one in a million talented performer... Alan
Amazing video! I met Rory a few times after gigs in London. Very approachable. He had the innocence of an Irish country lad and the manners that would make you blush. That Strat was a hard one to play..ONLY Rory could handle it. His approach on it was like an acoustic. Up to this day i've never heard anyone get such a pure tone from a Vox AC30.
@taildragger51 What do you mean by 'it was a hard one to play' and that only Rory could handle it? If you are referring to the gauge of strings he used, a lot of players chose heavy strings for sustain and tuning consistency, myself included. It doesn't make a guitar hard to play.
i noticed with rorys playing. he picks the string so light you dont get the pic sound threw the pick ups just the strings. pure tone.

Let's not worship an old guitar, it's what Rory did with it that is magic,

I once met Rory at a Mamas Boys gig at The Marquee club in London in the eighties. He was the most humble bloke I've ever met. A true Gent.
