Well, I've seen the film on a rerun more than just several times and always wondered if this Mall still existed.
Arigatoh so much for the video ! And...someday, if I ever visited the place, I would like to enjoy "that" famous tour of Monroeville Mall which I heard is conducted by David Emge aka Steven ! :}
I'm willing to bet that 9 out of 10 shoppers that go the Monroeville Mall know what was filmed there. If you aren't some gawking tourist you're parents or someone your parents know was in that movie.
I remember watching endless amounts of AVGN reviews last year...then I realized I already seen them all, so I went to his other homemade videos, and when I noticed that he made a video about one of my favorite movies of all time (not just zombie movies...film in general)...I swear I had a nerdgasm.
Sometimes I want to visit Pittsburgh JUST to feel the atmosphere of their chilling Autumn. George Romero captured that feeling so well that it stuck with me forever. Malls now look like shelter to me.
I drove to that mall today just to look at all the sights in that movie as well, and then went to the Zombie Walk they hold in downtown Pitts which was insane! Had to drive 4 hours just to get to PA. Went to the Night Of The Living Dead cemetery and house as well and that was equally badassed.
one day... one day i will visit that mall. dawn of the dead is a pure masterpiece, man. i got chills all over my back when i saw this video, i gotta go there, and when i do, i will listen to the dawn soundtrack.
One of the greatest films of all time. I'm moving back to Pennsylvania in a month and you bet your left nut that I'm gonna visit the shit out of this place. Satan.
@scorpioeddie84 really most stuff is not the same in this mall, its very different the lights and railings, stair cases, and several fountains have been removed in 2003
In the corner of the mall just aside a enterance, there are 3 framed pictures about the filming one of them is a picture of George Romero. I have it on my video on my YT channel.
I love malls. I do, one time, i was in this mall up in Atlanta and there where these guys and they where like dancing for money and like... Ellis, is now the time?
This was so much better than the tour that was on the official "Ultimate" DVD set. Your video was not only great for me as a fan of this movie, but also as a local Pittsburgher who went to Monroeville Mall countless times in the exact era the movie was made. I loved the comparison between your current footage and the clips from the film.
@VamporthGaming uh... no. Respect some dude that plays games and fools markboys like you into buying his lame shit. No thanks fool. Keep playing sheep. His fame will fade. A one hit wonder fad that's long got stale and unfunny. Fuck that attention whore. He milks you people dry. It's pathetic.
@Thranduilful There was actually never a gun store in the mall, those scenes were filmed somewhere else. I think the actual gun store in the movie was in downtown Pittsburgh. It's long gone, wherever it was.
Have you ever been to ZombieFest? It's held in Pittsburgh in honor of the Monroeville Mall and the horror culture that Pittsburgh is known for. We're known as "Zombie Capital of the World." :D
Unfortunately, the event is no longer held at the Monroeville Mall, like the previous years (since we had so many people the mall couldn't hold us all!). It was located at the Market Square in downtown Pittsburgh for 2010. Awesome fun for all zombie lovers. :)
was at that mall today, more specifically the convention center on the side for the pittsburgh horror film convention. got the first zombie that appears in night of the living dead's autograph
I wonder how many people have been thrown out of the mall over the years for attempting to do the infamous Roger sliding down the esculator trick. lol
I hate Call of Duty: Black Ops but I am soooo psyched for the new zombie map because you can play as Robert Englund and and Danny Trejo PLUS THE ZOMBIE KING HIMSELF George Romero is the "zombie Boss" of the map. Like WHAAAAAAA??? I get to fight the father of modern gory zombie flicks??! Sign me up
I have been here so many times the first time I went here was when I was six and I was so excited to go I asked George Romero a few questions about it because he Is my grandpas friend because my grandpa met him in moon township Pennsylvania it's like 45 min from the monroeville mall and when he met him they were filming monkey shines now where it was filmed is a meadows horse racing thing but I did not know they filmed monkey shines 5min from my house it is so cool and he is from Pittsburgh
What a spin-out! Hardly anything has changed - even the fountain, and the Naturalizer shop, for God's sake. I'd offer that if you were to delve into the indoor garden, you'd find a lower intestinal tract, maybe a machette or three. This mall should reallly capitalise on the theme: have a Dawn Day, all-you-can-eat sausage sizzle or something. Naturalizer shoes should have two lifetime gaurantees, just incase you end up coming back, banging your mummified Converse pumps at the window. Good stuff!
@102293 >> Likely the first, because they're not comparing anything from the remake. I'm going to guess the remake was made in Vancouver, but I'm just not that familar with.
