The thing you have to remember about Carrie Underwood is that she's WAY more professional and polished than Melissa and she's older as well. For a 16-year old girl to emote like that and front a band makes her better than Carrie Underwood by miles, even if the performance may be slightly lesser.

On this song, Carrie's voice is stronger, but Melissa's stage presence is better. If you watch the old clip of Carrie, she's a little "deer in the headlights", but I'm sure with experience, that has improved.
i love them both i think they are both amazing at what they do :) but melissa is really kool i got to meet her she really loved the neclace i was wearing :P
ok, here's my opinion: Carrie's voice was much stronger on this one although I liked Mel's lower register coz it was so cool..and Melissa's interpretation is awesome!

Ya the backup singer zzzz lol.
But you gotta know that a performance on idol has a limited amount of time allotted. And ususally a lot of the performanes are cut short and hurried.

It is very clear in the chorus that Carrie has more power and Melissa has a better tone.

I don't like Carrie, but I love Melissa. The only reason this doesn't sound good was because of the terrible back-up singer.
