  • Did you ever experience any kind of buzzing issues from sharing a power ground with your audio ground? This idea is brilliant.

  • hey @koenbus is it OK with you if I try to do something like your fretboard/get a friend who's really good with electronic stuff to do it?

  • great job! bad-ass guitar!

  • How do the leds know what frets are you playing?

Wouldn't this affect the sound and weight of the guitar?

  • So is this the right general idea:

The frets have leads connected to them and the bridge is the ground, that way the LEDs would have a complete circuit when the strings touch the frets?

    Nicely built guitar man!

  • Dude, If I want to install a couple of active pick ups to a guitar who has passive hum's, do I have to carve another hole for the 9v or can I put it inside the hole on the back for the hum's?

  • @Motopsycho96

as far as I'm aware, the case is just for easy replacement of a battery. you could just as easily wire it up in harware cavity if there is enough room to tape it down somewhere.

  • @Motopsycho96 depends on the guitar. No need to route the guitar if it's got plenty of space, like a les paul. A tele would be a different story.

  • Fucking epic.

  • THe LED's "system" is just genius xDxD

  • Very nice job man!!. I know it feels really good when you pick it up to play or show it to someone. You should be proud.

  • is the neck power rail pickup good for clean.

  • @yoshi183 its ok for clean, but if you play a lot of clean stuff, go for PAF pickups with alnico magnets, they sound much better clean

  • @koenbus i think ill stick with teh single coils on my strat, or maybe ill jsut get a power rail. im mostly into heavy stuff :)

  • @koenbus Do you think these would fit in a strat, bridge position?

  • How long did it take you to build that guitar ?

Also, how many kinds of wood do you use on the body? I've seen people using 2 different types..

    Good job :)

  • @iPedoBear69 it took me about 9 months, but i only worked on it every two weeks or so. The body is a solid piece of mahogany, but there are no rules for it, i've seen people using 3 or 4 types, or even more

  • @iPedoBear69 yea dude wood for body isnt to important i mean better wood better sound but you can use anything iv made one out of MDF once :D

  • are you aware there is a company that'd kind of claiming they built your neck, or at least are using this video to advertise their part?

I can send you a private link if you want, because youtube's not letting me post the link

did you use these guys or do it all on your own, because I really like the way yours works.

  • @tannerthomason

Wtf. This is my creation and my 'invention', no company ever got involved. I'd really appreciate it if you'd give me the link. Thanks a lot for telling me this!

  • @tannerthomason can i have the link too:/? i wana flame them

  • can I buy it ?

  • @gojanek: sorry, this one is mine ;)

  • Great

  • hi. how do you connect the actual fret to the circuit?

  • @KioBSteely

I drilled a tiny little hole through the fret slots, and put one of the led leads through it. These must then be bend down, so they lay down in the slot. Then you tap in the fret and you're done ;)

  • @koenbus so the leds are directly under the fret wire? i thought it was the led under the inlays and a wire going to the fret? thanks

  • @KioBSteely just realised what you meant, thanks for the reply

  • @KioBSteely

The led leads are pretty long, so I was able to put the led under the inlay and still manage to get a bit of lead sticking out of the hole that I drilled through the fret slot.

  • fucking genius!

  • O.o im about half way through making a guitar as a school project and just thought id consider led's, that looks sik when they light up as you play the fret, but it looks a bit too difficult. good work

  • hi men..

I was wondering what kind of wiring is best suited for installing LEDS and this particular application and if some sort of circuit is needed and recommended. On the guitar I mentioned before that had one of the LEDS fail, a simple toggle on and off switch is what was used. I would appreciate any help you can offer and hope to hear from you soon...

    thank

  • @CRONOXYS

In the description of this vid is a wiring diagram. That should point it out pretty clearly!

  • haha cool

  • Niice, very impressed.

  • how did u get the leds to lightup when pressed, if no reply! im calling a fake and gay! and i dont want to have to do that to some one of your tallent!

  • @ACiDgaming9796

Dude relax :P Its pretty simple actually. The strings and fret act as a switch. One end of the circuit is connected to the strings, and the other end is connected to a specific fret. When the string is pressed down on the right fret, it completes the circuit ... and then there was light. There's a wiring diagram in the video description, shouldn't be too difficult to understand if you have some basic knowledge about electronics.

  • @koenbus haha thx and my brother is a electricion :P so he should know XD and is it simple to do it to say a ibanez neck? like how would i get it all down and get just simple leds in? and how do you take the fret dots out? and once again awesome work!! and would i need to drill out my neck? i just got a ibanez rg350m which i want leds in but websites charge insane amounts!!! + im only 13 so i cant get a job for the money :P

  • @ACiDgaming9796

    @ACiDgaming9796

Well its not strange that they ask large amounts of money, it's pretty labour intensive to do it. If you'd like to do it to an ibanez neck, you have to steam off the fretboard. There's a good tutorial on this at projectguitar . com . Then you have to carve out a channel using a router, where all the electronics can be put in, and you have to make holes for the LEDs and put them in. Then you have to glue it all back together. It not easy, believe me!

  • @koenbus is a nice guy for going out of his way answering a question. could have told the dude to google it. lol

  • Badass!

  • how do you play the thing at the VERY end?

  • @DisgaeaDelinquint

I just 'hammer-on-ed' the notes with my left hand, and they sustain quite long thanks to the amount of gain. The notes are interrupted using the killswitch, that gives it that stuttery sound

  • @koenbus like could you tab it? or something please? because that's a great finisher! lol nice guitar though!

  • @DisgaeaDelinquint

Well its all improv so there are no tabs. But by looking at what I did, i'd say the last few notes are --7--5---2---3- on the low E string. You have to figure out the timing yourself ;)

  • Very cool man! I love the led's

  • how did you do the leds to light up when the fret is played?

  • Could you please tell me how you played the last thing? 3:10 - the end. Thank you

  • i was impressed until you slapped in those pickups

  • Wow, great job on that.

  • About how much did it cost and would you be into selling some with LEDs?

  • impressed, very good stuff!!!

  • Would be cool to wire the LED with the Killswitch, so that when you engage the switch, both the guitar signal gets cut off and the LED's turn off.

  • haha nice ideas...

  • ok i need a free wring diagram for somthing evidently a little strange, i want sinlg coil bridge and middle and humbucker neck, but i want bridge and middle on1 volume neck on another and a master tone standerd 5way switch etc. if anyone can hook me up pls do.thax

  • What chords are you playing? Also....would you ever make a guitar for a customer?

  • @holyswordsmanoffaith

Dunno i'm just improvising ;) and i don't build for other people than myself for 2 reasons:

    - I dont have the time and tools anymore, since I moved out of my parents house

    - I'm not experienced enough: I came up with some cool ideas which turned out great IMO, but i can't yet build perfect guitar without flaws, and I'm not too good at the paint and polishing thing yet

  • freakin sick lights dude. r the power rails good for playing metallica?

  • @metzepp

Yeah theyre pretty good for metal stuff. Nice high output HB's, definetely a bang for the buck, but of course a DiMarzio or EMG would be better... but would set you back at least twice as much

  • you are like the only one with a killswitch that not playing buckethead

  • Hey Kick ASS Guitar I love the body,I have a question 2 questions

-Did you need to leave the wood in a low temp room? (honestly i cant remeber why you do this but i think every guitar company does it)

-Are there pizos on that guitar?

  • @GDSpro

    - No, I don't. It's more important to keep it at a dry place, out of the sun.

    - No, no piezo's, just pickups.

  • Thats badass dude, ive allways wanted to build my own guitar but lack of tools and self confidence stops me.

  • very impressive work!!!

  • awesome song wats the name?

  • Bro.... HOw much money did you spend on this guitar? It's awesome, I gotta say. That's a killer LED too. Not my thing, but I'd love to you play a show with that thing lol.

  • whats you next project?

  • Awesome job, that is really an accomplishment, but I can't believe you painted it... it had such beautiful timbers....

Love the kill switch by the way

  • @wallace6969

It was a kind of a dilemma, but I chose to paint it because the wood contained a lot of holes and got heavily scratched during the building. I definitely learned to be more careful with my wood.

  • @koenbus It is VERY important to be careful with your wood. You want to make sure that you handle it with a soft touch ; ) Awesome guitar, by the way. Where did you get that LED system? I take it the frets somehow complete a circuit when touched by the strings? Totally wicked, dude

  • @ThyJimster

Its a fairly simple circuit I designed a few years ago, it uses the strings and frets as switches to complete the circuit. A diagram is in the vid description.

  • beautiful work, beautiful presentation

  • Idk if this has been asked before but with everything how much did it cost to build?

  • @AmishMuffin

    about 250-300 euro's ;)

  • you have tune-o-matic bridge. tune-o-matics are higher than normal bridges do your guitar has an neck-angle.... or not??

  • @broeder6x6

yeah mine has a slight neck angle. The T.O.M. sits fairly low.

  • fucking awesomeeeeee!

  • Awesome job, congrats :D

  • omg those leds are cool :D

  • are you planing on any new guitars? and check out my gibson explore build

  • can you make a video showing how to put the leds in please

  • This may sound newb but it seems like it would be hard to get the geometry right on the fret board. Like getting the guitar in tune then the notes coming out right on the frets. I'm probably thinking too much. Nice job eitherway dude ,fing sweet leds.

  • I bought the fretboard preslotted, so the frets where spaced just right ;)

  • Fantastic rig sir. How much did that run you to build?

  • Sick build what a great job!

  • Where did you get the led system/ did you build the system yourself?

  • OMG Nice guitar! ^^

  • How long did it take for u to build it? amazing LEDs man!!!!!!!!

  • About 9 months. So it's my little baby i guess ;) I took my time building it, no need to rush, thats why it took so long

  • @koenbus nice and how does the LED's work????

  • Check out the schematic in the description. The string and fret are used as a switch, when they touch the circuit closes and the LED is turned on.

  • @koenbus GENIUS. but did u think about using a different type of wood?im not saying thats a bad wood but yeah.

  • sound better distorted

    nice LED

  • looks like a schecter tempest (y)

  • You made a Paul Reed Paul!

  • rofl!!!

  • hey awesome job dude!!! how do you get them touch sensitive???

  • amazing. build me one!!!! how much and where do i send the cash?

  • Dude I dont build for anyone but myself, since i havent developed all the skills needed to make perfect guitar. It's kind of a learning proces for me. And i no longer have the time to build anyway ;)

  • So how much did it cost you?

  • About 250-300 euro's

  • i want LED's but I want it to be like a design that takes over the whole neck sorta like the tree of life and a have a switch. Imagine how much easier that would be to play in the dark. I already got glow in the dark fret markers but that aint nothing compared to LED's. How much does it cost to do this kinda stuff? I mean the LED's.

  • HOW THE HELL DID YOU GET THE LEDs TO LIGHT UP ONLY WHEN THAT FRET IS PLAYED?

  • make red LEDs that flash

  • holy fuck i like the lights like the end of vid to dun dun dunn DUNN!

  • And this is your 1st project? Holy crap, that's amazing!

    And the LEDs are sexy.

  • Fantastic design. Absolutely love it.

  • dude that is fuckin sweet, i wana put LEDs in my first guitar! but what i would do is make a slot ABOVE the neck so it wouldn't screw with my playing if they popped up!

  • absolutely badass. i love it!

question about the diagram u provided though. how exactly do you wire it so the fret and string act as a switch? im jsut a tad confused by that part.

might have to do this to my guitar :)

  • I drilled small 1 mm holes right through the fret slots, and took one of the LED leads and put it through the hole. Then I pushed the lead down into the fret slot, and tapped the fret in. The lead wants to 'spring' back up, and will therefore always touch the fret without actually soldering or glueing it toghether.

  • oh sweet, that makes sense. thanks for the diagram and the help, im totally gonna put this in a guitar someday!

  • siiiiiiiick

  • AWESOME GUITAR!!! I would buy one!

  • ahaha those LEDS are fucking sexy

  • that is realy cool

  • could you please look at my homemade guitar part 1# cuz you vid is the first homemade guitar vid i wached and you relly know what your doing plz have a look and help me out

  • That cost about how much?

  • about 250-300 euro's

  • okay, those touch sensitive LEDs are mindblowing

  • Xcuse me! The last song you played in the "killswitch" part is 1985 by Bowling for Soup, right..?

    Awesome guitar!

  • Hmm.. not really, I was just messing around actually ;) I do like BFS a lot though, so I might have drawn some inspiration from them

  • :) Well done, mate! Hope I can do what you can with the guitar...

    Wanna be my Sensei? :D

  • awesome guitar!! good song by the mad caddies too!

  • wow, thats really awesome! the body is not realy my taste, but it looks wonderfull, the LEDs are awesome.

but what is this killswitch for? doesnt sound that great if u ask me.. ^^'

  • can you provide me information about that led lights? i want to have one in my guitar. very nice? how much is it? what brand perhaps?

  • Incredible. How much did it cost to make? What was that little button you were pressing towards the end of the video?

  • It set me back about 250-300 euro's. That thing is a killswitch, a simple pushbutton that shortcircuits the guitar, killing the signal. And no this is nog harmful for the guitar or amp ;)

  • This guitar is fucking awesome!!!!!!!

  • nice

  • that LED idea was really awesome. when you make another one; you can find guitar effects circuit schematics online, and you should put them inside the body for even more effects control. so on top of a kill switch you could have on-board delay, distortion, fuzz, or wah or something along those lines.

  • I know, in fact i've built a few effects already now ;) and I've been thinking about putting a distortion in a guitar, but that makes switching a bit harder since you can no longer use your foot. And you can never use it with another guitar, so thats why i prefer putting them in stompboxes

  • shit i really want one

  • Same here!!!

  • That is the best hand cafted guitar in the world FUCK YEAH!

  • lol, deze mensen vinden je een soort god ofzo :P hehe, maarja hij is ook wel mooi ;) ik hoorde dat je alweer een nieuwe had? heb je daar ook foto's of video van?

    Latr!

  • speechless............................

  • I tip my hat to you..

  • i think that was the most baddasss thing ever haha nice job bro

  • you should sell that and make soo much money you fukin rok at making guitars. wow

  • THAT IS SO FUCKING BAD ASS! hahaha i love the LED's

  • You've got some skills there, man.

Start a production line of sick-nasty LED guitars.

  • mooie gitaar

    love the tapping part

  • brought a smile to my face. great job. thank you.

  • I wasn't expecting to enjoy the video as much as I did. Designing and making it especially with those extra features like leds and a killswitch was quite interesting and pretty cool. You're really talented!

  • u'r very talanted keep it up

  • That is pretty awesome wish i could make a guitar, nice job

  • Wow that is fucking sick!

  • that light thing is animal. i saw a guy with a guitar like that on britains got talent but woould it not get confusing when your playing on say the sixth fret and the fifth lights up?

  • That is better than most of the 400~500 dollar guitars!!

    amazing job!!

  • Moet goed voelen, een zelfgemaakte geweldig klinkende gitaar te hebben! :-)

Super gedaan, ik doe het je niet na...

  • That would've cost a grand or so if you bought it from a manufacturer.

  • those leds are sooooo cool :D

  • thats crazy!!!!!

  • nice!

  • Do those pickups have a good clean sound?

  • They are pretty good at clean, but there better for heavy distortion sounds. PAF pickups are better for the clean work.

  • Well, I'm modifying a Squier Jagmaster, (Alder Body), Making it single humbucker, and, I'm on a budget, and I want more output, but, I still want a good clean sound, but, I'm a little OCD, I like all pole pieces, pole pieces, no screws.

  • You could try installing a boost control, not 100% on guitars but I know EMG do a boost for basses, probably works the same for guitars.

  • Well, I'm not looking for a PAF clean tone, I need something that sounds like a really bright clean tone, but, with either rails, or all pole pieces, no screws.

  • what happens to the leds when you have it so that they come on when you press the string, but you play really fast tremolo picking, can they keep up with it?

  • You dont really let go of the string when tremolopicking right ? It doesnt react to picking, only to pressing strings down. Anyway, they could definately keep up with it. The speed of the electric current is so quick (close to the speed of light) you would never be able to out-play it ;)

  • Look sweet ... the effect of the LED's are amazing =)

  • How do the LED's light up on contact? Sensors?

  • Nope, the fret (with LED and a resistor to get the voltage right) is connected to the positve battery pole, and the strings are connected to the negative pole. When you press down the string against the fret -> contact, LED lights up. In fact, the fret and string form a switch.

  • i wanna know how to make my own guitar!!!! well i know a website that does but do u need a licence or anything to make it or a certain age?

  • lol.

    no.

i make them too, the only i am using in my video is hand crafted.

no fancy LEDs, but there is a monkey gripXD

    haha

  • That was soooooo cool. How did you make it like that.

  • Super mega ongelooflijk vet man!! Die LED lampjes zijn echt keivet ook. En hij klinkt ook lekker.

  • beautiul workmanshipe...you should try to make an acoustic...that would be a work of art

  • The LED's are a great touch, nice work!

  • that is pretty cool man. Nice work

  • Koen,

    Waanzinnig gedaan!!

Waar heb je een beschrijving staan van deze kunstzinnige verbouwing?

Ik heb nl een Hohner Strat kopie en wilde deze ook gaan pimpen met wat led's ed.

Nu lijkt me dit een geweldig idee...

    Fantastisch gedaan...

    Groetjes Hans
