Thanks for the Robert Preston interview! He was wonderful in The Music Man. He IS The Music Man! As far as celluloid transfers to tape, I happen to have open reel audio tape, cassettes, VHS and S-VHS that STILL play perfectly. What we have to fear is digital in our computer. It's quite unstable. An effect medium that will last forever is vertically recorded analogue media. Trouble is, they take up a LOT of real estate.
@bobosetaey2 well, duh, he was like a bazillion yrs younger in The Music Man. We ALL age and he looks great for his age in this vid. Anyway I am NOT trying to knock you, just saying.
from the horses mouth: my stepfather and wellman and preston during the making of the film used to cross the mexican border in a dune contraption and visit the bars and brothels there after filming and often not return until dawn for more shooting, very bleary eyed
They're talking about William Wellman, the director of such famous films as: "Wings" (winner of the first academy award for Best Picture); "The Public Enemy" with Jimmy Cagney; "The Ox-Bow Incident" with Henry Fonda (nominated for Best Picture), amongst many others. I don't believe they mentioned who Wellman was...
This was a joy to watch! I'm a huge fan of both the late great Bob Preston & the late great Bill Wellman. Both were amazingly gifted artists....thanks for posting this!
And what a vocabulary he had. "Not apocryphal" (for not false) and "we had the cafard" (for homesickness). Can you imagine today's actors (like Brad Pitt or Tom Cruise) talking like that or even being able to understand those words?
Excellent interview. Love hearing about Wellman by his stars, like at that bar and the pix of WW1 in the guy's pocket, his mechanic. In the R. Schikel 1973 interview, Wild Bill says there was a brothel nearby.
Great Video, If you need any help getting your video/channel exposed check out this site called Tubeviews . Net it has helped 5 of my videos get ranked on the first page. Hope this helps you

This is awesome to see, he was so cool and Beau Geste is a classic, it's fun to see him talk about it.
