i dont understand something, everybody is showing these 35mm videos on the net, but all the camera shots are static, just playing with the focus... where is a nice test video with some people in it in action...??
@planetrics I would think the answer lies in just how shallow the depth of field is. Seems like capturing moving shots with an effective DOF of only a few inches would be next to impossible.
Hi frequency vibration helps to disguise the focusing screen "grain", because the camera actually is taking the projected image that forms into the focusing screen, along with any dust and debris that could have deposited there.
*FOR THOSE WHO PLAN TO BUY A HV (and those who owns one)*:
I did some research and basically, there are no major difference or improvement between HV20 and HV30.
Now the only thing that's bothering me is that HV30 uses miniDV when HV20 has a 60Gb hard drive, which seems more convenient to me.
So I'd like to know if using tape loses some image quality compared of directly filming into a hard drive.. sry the omnipresence of digital these days makes me automatically relate tapes to poor quality :P
actually, the tapes are digital, so they actually have great quality. Hard drive cameras are a huge pain to use with most editing programs. Also tapes provide much more color data than a hard drive! So overall tapes are the way to go!
from this looks like the adapter looks awsome with the hv20, but the camara its self, wouldnt it look silly with the adapter on the hv20, seeing that the hv20 by its self is very small and the adapter is huge.
I'm noticing MOST of the sample footage using these adapters have dark edges. I'm not liking that for the kind of money these cost. Plus everything outside of a 5" DOF is out of focus and soft.
Yea but the tiny dof is what ppl are looking for when they buy the adapters.... I side with you on the vignetting, its ok for skate videos and stuff but no one wants to see that in the movie if its unintended
what do you mean with a 5 DOF? I agree with the dark side of the 35mm adapters. They are too dark. Too blurry...too soft. Mayeb we should wait for better adapters to arrive in the future.
im not 100% sure but i believe the vibrating actually has a small motor that vibrates a part of the lens, so then it wont show dust or anything, which is especially useful when shooting in HD, but with static is doesnt vibrate

very good results. Check mine too!

What do you do to avoid camera shake when focusing with vibration on with DOF?
uzland97 2 years ago
@uzland97 You can buy knobs that go around the focus and zoom so you never directly touch the camera.

to me the vibrating seems more dramatic than the static
TheAmigops 3 years ago
Why do you need a vibrating one? Does it do something to help the picture?
I also notice a bit of vignetting. Is there a way to correct this, or is that intentional?

hv20 records onto a miniDV. miniDV has better quality than directly recorded hdd videos

Really? I'll look into that
thanks for the info

Also hard drive can get errors if the camera is moved sharply or bumped.

im new to film. gonna get and hv20. cuz i wanna get into it a lot more...so what exactly does a 35mm adapter do??

i'm in the exact same boat as you. HV20 looks awesome, doesn't it? :)

gives your video more of a film look...With the correct lighting..

Allows for a more shallow depth of field (DOF) by using 35mm still photography and film camera lenses.

how much does it cost??

I agree. I just bought a jvc gy100hd and I'm still on the fence about these DOF adapters. The letus extreme seems to get the best reviews.
And the area of focus has ALOT to do with the 35mm lens you use, plus the amount of light you're working with. Check my vids for my film

The letus35 has no dark edge vignetting, once ajusted properly.

The only thing I don't like about the HV20 is the slow motion. You can't get high enough fps :/

I don't get what the difference is between a "vibrating" 35mm / dof adapter and a non-vibrating dof 35mm adapter? Is there a difference?

yeah?, i see the static written alot in places. whats the difference

its very simle...vibration causes motion blur, so the camera doesnt pick up the grain that easily.
frameflavour 3 years ago 3
As "simle" as one, two, three.

the vibrating 35mm lens keeps the dust out of the lens..
