  • Thanks!

  • I love your work David. Thanks for the video.

  • Excellent!

  • i like the way he puts on those strokes and create a beautiful art piece... he got the talent! =)

  • This is terrific!

  • This is seriously good, love yout technique (Y)

  • dont like......

  • @yutyasothon Duly noted.

  • Sir u are a master! Ur blocking technique i so fun. By funn i mean unlike other people videos i can see it dont have to be boring to paint! And i totaly feel for spontaniouse, i like it cuz again it gives more interaction with a painting thus making it fun. Sorry for grammar im foreign!)

  • Sir! That was wonderful. Thank you so much. I have never seen a technique like yours. It is staccato, bold, confident and beautifully interpretive. I love it. You have the soul of a sculptor, sometimes simply taking away that which doesn't belong. Truly inspiring. Thank you.

  • David, you are one of the few and best true artists demonstrated a real quality oil painting on Youtube. Fantastic work!

  • love this very very mutch.

    greetings from latvia

  • Sir, i have a question, how do u make a skin tone, which color do u have to mix, to get that tone.. and also for kind a black tone, beautiful work, inspiring! Thanks!

  • @Djole0 For the skin tones I generally start by mixing Cad orange, yellow ocher and white. That's the base tone. There are some cool tones mixed in as well...purple, green , blue, etc. For black, I mix raw umber and blue.

  • Fascinating and extremely worthwhile.

  • its look like an impressionist art

  • amazing! what do you oil out with david?

  • @MrClockwork22 Thank you. I use some linseed oil thinned with a little mineral spirits.

  • you made my day man

    I love the energy

    THANK YOU!!!

  • @yoda12439 Thanks!

  • Marvellous - thanks for sharing. Wonderful to watch the energy and intensity of your style. I hope to see more of your videos great stuff!

  • I think this is honestly my favorite video on YouTube. I couldn't even tell you how many times I've watched it.

  • @1414mwh Are you the person responsible for the 25K hits :)

  • @davishev Lol. No, I'm sure at least 4 or 5 other people enjoyed it as well. Keep up the good work man.

  • Amazing work!

  • Kick ass painting style. Love the lost & found edges. Since you use Galkyd, do you also use Gamblin Oil paints?

  • @RichardHuanteDesign Thanks. I mostly use Gamblin and Rembrandt for my oil paint.

  • Brilliant work David!

  • Thanks for this wonderful demonstration!

  • @sagitta242 Thanks

  • It takes guts to paint like this. Excellent example to us all. Thanks!

  • i love the paint strokes you use and the element of chance too - brilliant work im a painter 2

  • @daveindublin1 Thanks.

  • Just wondering what you use for medium:) Love your work:)

  • @sandvdh Thanks. For this painting I used Galkyd.

  • cool

  • nice work, thanks for the demo....

  • i've never seen anyone push paint the way you do. your style is so unique! amazing.

  • Do you paint fat over lean, adding more medium to your paint as you go?

  • @Philosofy3 To be honest, I don't really concern myself too much with the whole fat over lean issue. I try to keep the amount of medium consistent through out. Hopefully my paintings won't fall apart in 50 years!

  • Seigneur, Donnez-nous...God give us the strenth to bear trouble

Your work is inspiring, I am encouraged

  • @RUBONEOUTification Merci bien.

  • Salve.ottimo complimenti

  • @janna683 Mille grazie.

  • Very nice work. Ironic that you seem to be going for energy and motion using a technique that's almost digital staccato.

  • David,

I'd like to know what mixing medium do you use? ...... like liquin or stand oil or so on ?

  • @voiletrain For this painting I used Galkyd thinned with some Gamsol.

  • @davishev Thanks David.

  • @davishev thank you

  • definitely love your looser open style as in the Sumo wrestling...the tight look of some of your past and many other of your contemporaries...as great as it is..is ..well...boringly technique wise..where is the painting energy...this current method is wonderful and exciting and alive...yes...this is good when it is done well. love the videos...have to look into the dvd...more than one on the way I hope...would love to see more glimpses of the studio and set up and so on. I too paint.

  • Wow! There is so much energy in this painting. What a treat to get to see how you did it. You are awesome. (Not the kids slang use of the word...but the literal since of awe I felt while watching you paint) I want a full length DVD!

  • @faylow105 Thanks!

  • Your a great painter sir and the style of painting you demonstrate in this video

look alot of fun, the style reminds me alot of a painter called Kim Cogan.

    Hope to see more from you;

  • wow

  • Lot'sa fun! love the aggressive technique. gives the painting alot of energy. If the DVD shows this style of painting as opposed to your tight academic approach, I'd be one of the first to buy it. good job.

  • i love it im about to do some oil Painting now

  • You are an amazing painter. Congratulations. Your art inspires me a lot!!

  • I love the unfinished look, makes it really dynamic! I'd like to paint more like this.

  • Sweet!

  • Is it weird to admit that I almost cried watching this demo? The sheer passion and approach to your painting is astounding. I have never seen a brush used like that before. Incredibly inspiring, and exciting. Thank you for sharing. The music was perfect for this piece. Congratulations, you are a rare talent.

  • @blainej83709 Thank you. I'm so glad you liked the video ....especially after receiving the polar opposite response from babaro2010

  • Re-o.k. David ; )

  • Love the painting, beautiful brush strokes. Thanks for sharing your process, I've been wanting to loosen up my brush work too and this gives me at least an idea of how I can do that.

    Thank you!

  • wow you paint this artwork with so much emotion! impressive!!!

it reminds me of a musician who is into the music he does.

gotta share this video on my blog

    well done!

  • Thanks. I am producing a 50 min DVD due mid July if you'd care to mention that.

  • Wow, the process is fascinating. The finished work has a wonderful sense of motion.

  • i just got a very useful idea from this.....

  • Super nice painting!!! Like the brush work!! Thanks for making a mess as you say!! I would only like to make a mess like that!!!

  • Thanks, glad you liked it. I'm planning on producing a full length DVD in the future.

  • awesome what kind of style r u doing your doing very quick strokes with the paint brush. the painting looks awesome!

  • The painting I tried it on once remained shiny in the background where I hadn't applied a 2nd layer of paint, resulting in an uneven surface. Your painting was beautiful. thanks.

  • If you want an even paint surface, don't look at what I'm doing. You'd probably be better off with a more conventional paint application. I generally tolerate a very uneven paint surface while working, but when the painting is finished I varnish them to even everything out.

  • Really nice documentation/narration of your process. Excellent short.

    Cheryl Knowles-Harrigan PAFA 85 - Painting/Printmaking

  • Thanks - I'm going to try this method then :)

  • Superb!

David, both the painting and the film are absolutely wonderful!!!

  • Great video - thanks!!

It seems like you first get general color/shade and most importantly direction of the strokes right (while staying anatomically correct), and then you add light/dark different intensities of color on top? And then "correct'/adjust with the background color to get the shapes back?

I'm OK with animal fur, but skin and especially skin color still is my enemy..

*sigh* I've still got so far to go and so much to learn - I wish I was there yet. It's really fun, but hard too!
