I don't know what makes a bigger asshole, the people that complain about what is or isn't in the post or the regurgitation of lines from the show, either way really fucking annoying.
Do lawyers have an interest in a coup d'etat or when the feds commit crimes against humanity? Where do you go when you're psychologically tortured for 3 and half years and your family is forced to sign NSLs and conduct Psy-ops experiments on you? How can I be denied a lawsuit or to speak with an attorney?
This was the first Mr. Show skit I ever saw and it blew my mind. Of course, that was during my high school "experimenting" days and that made it all the more awesome.
It's Lenny from Lenny and Squiggy from Laverne and Shirley. He's been in a lot of Christopher Guest movies (Mighty Wind, I think he was in This Is Spinal Tap, but I can't remember where.)
Well, it obviously wouldn't be fruitful to try to explain why I find it funny, as I've already been kindly informed that, objectively speaking, it simply isn't. Do you suppose that you having this conversation all the time suggests that you push your opinions as objectivity all the time? My favorite thing about youtube is the corrolation between "I'm not ignorant" comments and total, punishing ignorance...
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
No. If you ever listen to comedians talking about comedians, some things are funny some aren't. If you laughed at it, fine, that's what makes Gallagher so popular too. But this sketch without a single laugh for 3 minutes, and only third grade humor ever, is never going to win any awards for brilliant comedy.
Compare "the Audition" and "the Pre-Taped Call-in Show"--two of the most brilliant sketches ever, also by these guys. This sketch is an embarrassment by comparison.
You see, I think you missed the point. I think it's funny because Bob's character is clearly improvising, and when faced with the impossibility of actually teaching the class, his only recourse is to do his overworked impression of Prof. Peens.
But like I said, explain that to you will be completely useless, as evidenced by the next comment you're sure to leave. Because you, enlightened sir, possess objective knowledge about what's funny and what isn't. The responsibility must be terrifying.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Why would that be terrifying? And yes, I understand where the intended jokes lie. What would obviously be pointless to you is to explain why the jokes are not funny (I'm really saying they are not clever or interesting in anyway. But that's not all I'm saying, because I think slapstick can also be funny). It would be an interesting conversation the different ways this fails, but from your comments, I guess not with you. This is humor that the comedy coach would have taught Borat.
damn are you dumb. your sitting there telling people you know about comedy and saying this is crap comedy. but if you had a tiny fraction of the money earned from this show you would never have to work again. so your a comedian huh? well make me laugh.
This was one of the dumbest comments I've read on youtube (and I've read some dumb ones!). I'm not sure if you live in a cave, or if you are one of the people that make America what it is, but now comedy is judged by POPULARITY?! Here is a list of very funny things, according to you:
1)Friends
2)Jay Leno
3)Adam Sandler movies
4)Gallagher
5)Too Close For Comfort,Etc.
Americans are notoriously stupid (and a sense of humor requires intelligence). If that's your criteria, I stand corrected.
what makes you think you can know what a person watches without knowing them. thats pretty bold of you. i bet if i met you in person you would be an introverted, meek individual, devoid of any real presense.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I almost feel I'm a bigger fan of the show than you people, because I appreciate what was _funny_ about the show. I _respect_ the show by calling the shit shit and the brilliance brilliant. Liking this skit embarrasses the entire enterprise. People who like this skit can't distinguish between it and pre-taped call-in show, so what was truly special about Mr. Show is lost in crap.
wow, you sure showed me. ok well, if you're so intelligent and enlightend, then why dont you go find the cure for cancer. if there isn't a cure in tweleve hours i'll declare you a pompus ass.
You obviously aren't able to follow the most basic conversation. I never said anything about what you watch, I don't know where you even got that. Your reading comprehension is so bad, it obviously would be a waste of time to try again. I'm sure you'll somehow manage to not understand this comment either, but I'll let it go. You can have the last word, I won't be writing back. (Why don't you take a moment to tell us how funny Larry the Cable Guy is.)
What's amazing is how people get so incensed when confronted with the truth! I've said repeatedly that Mr.Show was great--SOME of the skits were utterly brilliant (Audition, Pre-Taped Call-in Show). Your comment is beyond stupid because you don't even allow for my actual point, which is that THIS SKIT, not Mr.Show, is terrible. I take it you never went to law school, because a double-edged razor sharp mind (or whatever hilarious phrase it was) you do not have.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I just went through it again, that skit is so bad it really is painful. It would not be out of place in the worst season of SNL. The audience is even having trouble finding anything to laugh at. It's embarrassingly bad. Not a single moment of WIT or CLEVERNESS in the whole thing. I'm not even saying that's necessary, but dumb humor needs to be funny, and this is not.
Oh! By the way, Bob and David literally couldn't GIVE AWAY the show for a long time--I'm not sure how "successful" it was.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I didn't realize the standard of funny we were applying! According to your standard, yes, these guys are hilarious! Of course, by that standard so are Friends and Punky Brewster and Golden Girls and Jay Leno.
Now that I understand the standard, I take back everything I said about this skit. This skit is frikkin' hil-AR-ious.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I have this conversation all the time here. Of course taste plays a part in humor. But humor is not _all_ taste. This sketch is just not funny. It's not a question of taste. I might be the only one here who even actually _gets_ this sketch. In the first minute there is not a single laugh--he's just repeating Kingsfield's speech in Paper Chase. But saying "double edged razor sharp blades" instead of "lawyer"? It's just not funny. This would be a good SNL sketch, nothing more.
I have BEEN to the Law School, and I must inform you that this is actually TRUE!!! all of it! true!!!!!!!!! so just be careful the next time you just so happen to enroll in a law school.
this documentary is so right on!! believe me, I have been to the "law school" and this actually happened, once, to a certain someone I like to refer to as "me, myself, and I" !!! - so there!!! ha!!! believe it and weep!
This is one of the few Mr. Show bits that just pitters out. I loved Bob's angst in trying to lead the class, but instead of building on it, they just kind of pissed out in the end.
Is it just me, or does Bob Odenkirk totally sound like Steve Carrell in this sketch?
