  • You mentioned you prefer 24 fret guitars to the strats 21 frets. How often do you need the extra 3 frets on a 24 fret guitar? I know this might sound like a stupid question but I'm fairly new to playing.

  • @NomadRonin

Hey Man, no problem. 24 frets just make it so you dont have to bend that 21st up a ton to get those high pitch sounds. I look at the fretboard in terms of patterns and what not, so the even number of frets three octave's of E notes i think.. I really dont know much theory.

  • :o As always, you do a good job!

  • TONE.FOR.DAYS.

    period.

  • This really rocks! It sounds very Yngwie Malmsteen-esque! I've never played a guitar with a scalloped neck. Can you give a quick comparo as to advantages/disadvantages over a standard neck?

    Great playing, as usual!

  • Nice shred man! Keep it up! ...and the guitar is awesome!

  • I hate it when people who've played for so much less time than me are so much more impressive! =/

    Keep rockin' man!

  • hey friend by chance found this video

you are good at this style, great job!

  • Is the YJM stratocaster important to create a sound near the sound of malmsteen or it's matter of the pedals and amps that he uses?

  • @MrEllinaras

To finish, yes, pedals and amps are very important. But alot of His tone and identity as a player lies in his incredible control and vibrato with bends, etc,. And thats where scallops can help a little bit in my opinion. But i actually dont play this guitar much, i prefer 24 fret guitars. this has 21

  • this one is my fav. it has got some great "shreddy" moments, a great backing track and neo-classical phrasing throughout ! Keep on rocking !

  • yo man lon time no talk very nice guitar is this the £1,300 model? with the Yngwie pickups by DiMarzio? and a single DiMarzio bride pick up? btw sick playin again,

Best wishes may god be with you and rock on.

  • fast action thats amazing playing and it seems effortless to you the hidden afterburners are dying to scream out bro id love to see you play so hard your sweating you got death speed potential have a nice weekend tell slimer emily said hi

  • i played one of these guitars they feel awesome

  • is that the yngwie malmsteen signature model? my friend has one and its awesome to do fast runs on it

  • No, it's just a 70's style strat that was scalloped. I actually like the cheap pickups in this better because they are a little hotter than the Malmsteen model. I personally love scalloped guitars, i also have a ibanez 7 string i had scalloped.

  • scalloped vs un scalloped neck

what exactly is a scalloped neck for?

  • A scalloped neck makes big bends and vibrato alot easier, thats about it :) I personally love the way they feel, i have some other friends who cant stand them, so it is just a matter of personal taste.

  • @burnedoutgolfer So you said the pro's about it, what in your opinion what be a reason to NOT get a scalloped neck? Or is it just a neck that makes it easier to bend and put vibrato in? In other words, besides personal taste, should all guitar necks be scalloped?

  • @dahudge14

The major con is if you use a light string guage playing open chords and bar chords can be a little tough if you arent very good at playing them to begin with like me, lol. all guitars shouldnt be scalloped, it just comes down to taste, you could be like Yngwie and scallop all your guitars, but me personally, I am glad i have both. I also dont find it to be that big of a deal switching back and forth between the two like some people complain but thats just me =)

  • @burnedoutgolfer Well, Yngwie plays only one type of guitar, haha. Seems like I've only seen the Fretboards on Strats get scalloped (and by seen I mean pictures, I've never played one). Would, say for instance, an Ibanez guitar (seeing as it usually has lighter strings) be ideal for scalloping? I would like to buy a nicer guitar, and then after that, buy a scalloped guitar. It's weird, because you don't see very many scalloped guitars...... Thanks for the advice though. I'll get the money soon

  • really good shreed ,,, cool feeling with the guitar

  • Nice work man! Tone is sweet also!!

  • Excellent!!!

    Grandma mary

  • Thanks Mary! Your blues playing is outstanding!

  • This jusk kicks ass!

  • That was killer. Brought me back to when I saw Yngwie open for AC/DC on Marching Out Tour. I have a soft place in my heart for neo-classical stuff. I love it! Awesome improv, ApB

    Good technique and good phrasing

  • Oh I saw your other comment. Wow, that's made in mexico? Impressive. How do you like the scalloped fretboard?

  • I love the scallops! I got an ibanez 7 string scalloped too! I will post a vid when my new distortion pedal comes next week.

  • I haz da jealousy. I have one good guitar and some epiphones and a yamaha, haha.

But... I HAVE A THUNDERBIRD. So I think that gets me some points. I play it at church occasionally when our bass player isn't there second service (I'm the guitarist first service)

  • I am jealous of you! I didn't start playing until i was thirty! Ouch! Your multi instrument skills, and being a cool dude scores points with me and the whole family of slobs!

  • Well in that light it does appear that I have it pretty good. :) But I think Slimer's the real star. That kid is progressing so fast! At where he is timewise after starting I hadn't ever ventured past the first four frets XD

  • I love your Yngwie style wide bends. I can never get 'em right. Is that his signature or just a standard or American standard?

  • I press it out of tune at :42 . LOL

  • Fantastic stuff!

  • Thanks so much William! Honored to get feedback from a great player like you!

  • Awesome!!!! Great !!!!

  • jam session tomorrow?!?!?! is it too late to throw Fletcher on a plane?!?!?!?!? =)

  • Great playing, bro! Is that an Yngwie model? MIM or USA?

  • It's a bit of a frankenstrat. It's MIM body and pickups. Then got a scalloped neck with the fender cbs headstock and waterslide decal.

  • great playing... no doubt tiger woods would be proud...

  • Thanks Laurie! Us golfers or former golfer got way too much time to get into trouble! My trouble turned out to be in the form of an electric guitar thank goodness!

  • very nice!!
