  • dah dude's & dudet's that's the "JACKSON" "RANDY"!!! GO BRO!!!

  • talk about memories,,,,,, good ones 80's all the way

  • Love Randy Jackson on bass! My buddy Danny has that huge guitar tone, every note just drips!!!

  • is the bass player Randy Jackson?

  • 106 KKDJ Fresno played this song all the time.Remember cruising Blackstone with this blasting...

  • The guitar is kicking with a good groove and sound,so who ever dont like it ,you probabl are a frustrated guitar player who can't play or get a good sound....LOL

  • Wicked under rated band . These guys rocked !!

  • Ha! I was in a band at school with the drummer, Jeff Nead! How bizarre!

  • 500 bonus points to the first person that can name the bass player.

  • @KirkwoodMikey: Colin Payne?

  • @KirkwoodMikey Randy Jackson from American Idol. Also the guitarist Danny Chauncey eventually joined 38 Special and I believe he is still with them. Great song. Especiallly the last 2 minutes.

  • @HARDROCKONLY1 Yep... That's Chauncey! I've been searching for that guitar... It's a black walnut Schecter strat with a solid BadAss bridge. Di Marzio coil-tap pickups and an Alembic StratoBlaster (hidden behind the pick-guard). He also had a sunburst Strat with a whammy bar (three springs) and a Stratoblaster that replaced the original 1/4" jack.

  • @KirkwoodMikey bassist is white... the only black guy is playing the organ.... is that what you ment?

  • GREAT SONG!!!

  • Please -NEVER- take this off youtube. I used to cruised in my buddys '69 Red Mustang back in the early 80's around blasting tunes like this. Ole LTHS High School back in the day. We were so cool and so young, naievly stupid to reality. God, I miss this type of music and real Muscle cars and cheap gas.

Im 46 and its all down hill now, diabetes, bad knees and reading glasses ! ;-(

This music takes me back to when everything was " right " and so so simple.

  • PWNS all 80'S

  • Great song. Never played anymore on the radio. Definitely a one hit wonder, but Cocktail Queen rocks too. I purchased a CD of this album a couple years ago on EBay. But I'm sure it was recorded off an album. Still sounds great.I'm glad I did. I wish the song was a couple of minutes longer.

  • poor randy jackson, barely getting any camera time, lol

  • If you like the lead guitarist here his name is Danny Chauncey check him out

on the video here on You Tube . "Second Chance". by the band "38 Special" he has a unique style on guitar the man can play.

  • I want to get this on my IPOD and I can't!! ugh

  • If it's a classic, KSHE 95 always seems to come up

  • I meant that he sounded like "Paul Rodgers. Brian Howe and David Coverdale." This was originaly on States Of Emergency Year. There is a compilation Chequered Past. You can find the name of that base player on amazon for aforemetioned compilation. Again such a timeless tune!

  • I had this song saved about two years ago. I heard it on KSHE also and wondered who the lead singer was since, at least this tune, awesome voice, thought the guy must have sang for other groups, thought Brian Howe(sp) or Roger? what's his last name, cann't think of it, and a couple other names. From what I take from others, he's gone??

  • Fabulous! Was turned on to this tune on St. Louis' Sunday morning Classics Show on KSHE 95. And Randy Jackson? Cool. And comment from the Lady in the video? Very cool. I'm just sorry it entailed bad news.

  • Uriah Heep did "That's The Way That It Is", another awesome tune. Peter Goalby sang that.

  • didn't they have the song "The Way That It Is"?

  • absolute classic...been looking for this one for years A++

  • FYI, the barely seen bass player in the music video is none other than Randy "DA' DAWG" Jackson of "American Idol" fame. An ace studio musician who played on the original studio recording of this track and who's played bass with them all (e.g. a one year/one album stint with Journey). Currently doing his stint as AI judge and sometimes record producer (e.g. Paula Abdul). If you don't believe me, check out the cd album credits for the Taxxi album.

  • Where was this filmed?

  • WOW xcalgirl.. it's amazing to hear from you. Thank you for your nice comment. You look fantastic in the vid, I do hope you enjoy the memories. xxx

  • My brother is th keyboard player, Colin Payne.... I didn't realise this stuff was up here. I only checked out You Tube just in case. Thanks for all the great comments about the band guys.... they could have been so much bigger given the chance.

Sadly, it's the anniversary of my Colin's passing from complications of Sickle Cell Anaemia, the genetic disease he suffered since birth. Being part of TAXXI gave him some some of the best days of his life and USA helped to make it happen. xxxxxx

  • I'm very sorry to hear about Colin, I'm the girl in the video. I really liked these guys and had a blast working with them.

  • Man can we get some of this on the radio and VH1

  • It was played alot on the radio from 1983-1993.

  • This was the Jam back when I was in high school.

  • Same here. Classic.

  • @kblopp WORD!!!

  • Think the vocalist watched too many Pete Townshend live 1981 clips.

  • I knew that already, but thanks anyway. Frankly , I really wish States of emergency had been released on Cd. It was a good album in MHO.

  • If the reissue companies win this never ending tug of war against UMG you just might get your wish. Taxxi had 2 other minor hits after "I'm Leaving" - "Maybe Someday" & "Still In Love" from the next 2 albums after "State of Emergency." BTW "I'm Leaving" never was the crossover pop hit it should've been. Not even an American Billboard Hot 100 pop hit (went Top 20 in the UK) & peaked only at #39 on the mainstream rock charts here in the states. Should've been a much bigger pop hit b/c of MTV.

  • None of Taxxi's AOR radio hits were Hot 100 pop hits here in America. Only "States of Emergency" charted here in the states. The other albums by the band sold poorly & never made the albums charts. The exposure MTV gave these guys should've helped their cause. Don't know why it didn't?!! "I'm Leaving" stood the test of time even though it's been dissed by a vast majority of classic rock radio stations in present tense. What a shame what might've been!!

  • Flash in the pan,, and look at bassist Randy JAckson now, eh??

  • Does that mean you're dumping on this lost classic rocker? What would you rather have - this great music or all this modern pop crap from today?!! I think it's a no-brainer!!

  • Oh, no, I'm saying a TRUE ONE HIT WONDER band. This is all I ever heard of them. I did remember from a taped off air Archive cassette I made

  • @MetallicBill Well MettalicBill maybe the

majority of the band faded into obscurity but the guitar player featured here named

    Danny Chauncey from Alameda california

played in several local bay area bar bands Danny wrote the Eddie Money hit "I wanna

Go Back". and he joined 38 Special right

after Taxxi and is still in the band.

  • Appreciate the Factoids found from YT watchers, great to hear. I like 38 Special but never seen them live sadly

  • Never commented on anything like this, but had to concerning this song. I've had bits and pieces of the lyrics and harmony haunting me for 25 years. Always looked up Taxi as a wild guess. Not on ITunes...Finally finding this song recently is kick ass! These guys had lightning strike on this one. What memories...I think I remember....

  • The song is on CD on a collection titled "Chequered Past" & is available at places like Amazon & Barnes & Noble. Walmsrt might have it at its online stores too. Sadly the album is unavailable for downloads. Another resistance plot from Universal Music Group who's holding many LPs hostage from being reissued so they can't be available at iTunes.

  • Other examples of un-reissued classic rock albums not at iTunes that UMG won't reissue or make available for downloads: Tarney Spencer Band, Giuffria, Saraya, Van Stephenson, Timothy B. Schmit, Leatherwolf, Stallion, Ali Thomson, Mitch Ryder's "Never Kick A Sleeping Dog", Aldo Nova's "Blood On The Bricks" album (produced by Jon Bon Jovi) & even some Poco albums from the late 70s & early 80s. The list goes on & on. It never ends!!

  • Cool guys - had beers with them in the Kingston bar Portland, OR in July '82. We hadn't heard of them yet - but loved their music when they opened for the Oregon Jam (with Joan Jett, BOC, Loverboy and Foreigner) a week later.... Great memories and great music!

  • fukin greatness!

  • Wish the audio quality was alittle better. Thanks for sharing this though.

  • Sounds like Foreigner.

  • WOW!! I remember this when I was 8 years old. Nice jammin' song!!!

  • Looks like Fee Wable from The Tubes.

  • They should have drove off in a taxi.

  • his voice so sexy, heheheh!

  • I uploaded "Maybe Someday" on my acct. Check it out!

  • cant find maybe someday...inmotion68

  • I can't find it either? Was it pulled?

  • these guys were great. I always kinda thought that they might of been better off on a different label.Weren't they on Fantasy records? Thanks for posting!

  • very awesome video,,, i love it!! thanks for sharring. 5 starzzzzz!!!

  • your welcome!!

  • I believe heaven and the heartaches was recorded from a 5th disc that was never released and they put the song heaven and the heartaches from that on the secret of my success soundtrack.

  • one of my fave recorded bass drum sounds ever.

    luv the song, too.

    #@!

  • the secret of my success original motion soundtrack includes "The Heaven And The Heartaches" by Taxxi. Check this out!!!

  • these guys were so cool, meat them at ksjo and they gave me backstge passes to the keystone and i met eddie and the tide there great show bayarea rocks

  • Blast from the past!! I was in 8th grade when this came out. eatin' beaners!! haha!! great song thanx for the vid!

  • great song, thanks for posting the vid!

  • yes! luv taxxi~

  • Wasn't there also a video for a song called Cocktail Queen? I think that might be the one I actually remember seeing on MTV.

  • coctail queen??

    thanks for posting this one

  • Very underrated song! Awesome! Thanks for the memories!

  • Been wantin to hear this for years.

  • Wow!

I haven't seen that vid in ages.

Seen them back in the day, still have the vinyl, never could find the disc.

  • Kind of bummer, but it never made it to disc..but it has been re-released on vinyl in a greatest hits type album from their record company.

  • The "hits" album you're referring to is "Chequered Past" & it is on CD - just not available at places like iTunes or where you can purchase music downlaods. You have to buy the entire CD just for the song. But you're right that "States of Emergency" has never made it to CD. Reissue companies like Renaissance & American Beat are fighting UMG tooth & nail for albums like "States of Emergency" & Tarney Spencer Band's "Run For Your Life" which UMG (Fantasy's parent) refuses to reissue.

  • This was on of the first videos to get regular play on MTV. This has to be one of the better '80's tunes! They were the best of times. That channel is now hard to watch.

  • Yeah - especially w/their overkill of that Real World & Road Rules crap that ruined MTV 4 life!!! Well that & much of today's music which is pretty much all crap!!! PTL 4 youtube!!!

  • Hit the nail on the head bucky. F-ing brutal to watch.

  • And sadly to say, scamp, VH1 ain't much better. Both play too much hiphop & pop poop along w/their crappy reality shows that gots to go & fast. Too bad we have to subscribe to digi cable to get VH1 Classic which is some shades of old school MTV. Oh I wish today's kids could hear this great old school rock & compare it to the crap they worship today. Taxxi is more classic rock than it is new wave (a pop/rock subdivision which I never cared much for in the 80s.) New wave is better than Rihanna.

  • Great song. In 1983-84?? I was heading to watch them in concert in Tampa, FL. A guy ran a red light hit my car and ended up missing the concert. Many excellent memories of this song and the girls I dated in Florida at that time. Intense to say the least!

  • Love it , love it .... great song...Did these guys have any other hits? great cruising tune...Surprised to see it....Great songs never die !!!

  • Damn this vid is definetly from the archives fault. Great tune and album from '82.

  • Wow. Add my name to the list of happy tubers seeing this. This song brings back some gooooood times and memories

  • Thank you for posting this! I have been wanting to see this video for a long time. I hope someone can post "Cocktail Queen" :)

  • Is the lead guitarist olaying a fender strat or an ESP?.

    Anybody?

  • Looks like a Fender or custom rep. ESP was making copies when they started, but were not widespread like now. I think it's a copy built with better wood. I had this song on cassette tape radio archive, never saw the vid! Very neat.

  • Don't be surprise if you you start seeing American Idol's Randy Jackson showing up on a lot of these videos & concert recordings: He was was one of the busiest (and most sought-out) session bass players in the 1980's. I think he worked with Journey as well.

Another great song from the 80's that I've been dying to find the video to! Thanks Dlokazip!!

  • I prefer Randy Jackson of the 80s band Zebra. They still record IIRC

  • I can get with that, too!

  • "Girl Can't Help It" by Journey. Randy's all over that one.

    #@!

  • i thought there was 3 guys in taxxi, who are the other 2?

  • Headband guy is Randy Jackson from American Idol. The guy with the guitar solo is probably Danny Chauncey. He's credited on the LP.

  • the man with the headband looks like yaphet kotto

  • This is what i called Early MTV music.

  • Thanks for bringing this back. Been waiting years for someone to post it!!

  • awesome talented fusion band, dunno y they never really made it big. love to see "states of emergency" from the same name record! THX!!!!

  • Fantasy records haas released a lot of their songs on a an album called Chequered Past and wouldn't you know they left that one off. The original States of emergency Lp is still available from used record dealers.

  • yes, i know all that, was looking for the video. love to see all the vids from this album, especially, "new york city", it is on youtube, but sound is awefull.

  • Sound may be "awefull" but it's better than no video right?

  • ofcoarse, i did say thx for posting it b 4. maybe if u rerecorded it, and turned mic up would be better?

  • omg...great song you have that other song....someday someway i think the name was

  • Marshall Crenshaw.

  • I had States of Emergency back when it was released and just wore this track out!. Best song on the album. Totally put these guys on the map. Great posting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • THANKS for posting!!!!!!!!!!!!!! been trying to find this song forever! Great job!

  • anybody have cocktail queen? another great song from these guys

  • anybody have cocktail queen? another great song from these guys

  • Thank you so much for posting this. I've been wanting to see this for ages.

  • You're welcome, but, also, thank TDK. I recorded it from MTV 24 years ago and the tape still plays.

  • @dlokazip It makes me feel good to see this because the guitarist here

Danny Chauncey performed with local bands and partys in the area where

I lived and grew up and was in my friends cousins band The Alameda All

Stars. and Danny wrote a song they performed and eventually became

a hit for Eddie Money "I wanna go back" and then Danny joined 38 special

and he is still with the band all these years later.
