This is a good example of MOTION GRAPHICS using 3D. All the people complaining about it not having bones, or real 3D models, don't understand that that's not what it's about. This would be a great interstitial for introducing a segment in a TV special about the history of video games. And, it's very impressive for a first try.
Just kidding, this is fine for an assignment testing the waters of After Effects. I dont know what everyone's complaining about. It's not meant to be a finished production.
@DaRoachDogg Well I don't know why you feel to make it so relevant for yourself.. but I've concentrated on fine arts in the past few years - but my last major AE project was my thesis (which could be found on my website) where I combined my Flash animations to have them interact with live action footage (much like Who Framed Roger Rabbit).
you should work on it a lot more. all you did was use 2d images of 3d rendered creations and try animating them without any bones. nice try on the coins. i could still tell its just a 2d image spinning. u could of at least made a 3d mesh of the coins. wouldnt be that hard.
@DaRoachDogg Thanks. This was actually made 3 years ago and was my first attempt at any 3D world... also made on a one week deadline to just show that we had an understanding of the lesson. :) I don't feel the need to further this project as it is in the past as my intro to AE.. Just gotta keep moving forward. :)
Pft. People are idiots, seriously. When they go yell "BADLY ANIMATED" they don't even know what animating means. I, for one, think that you did an awesome job creating all that!
@Demoras Ha thank you very much. I don't let the criticism get to me, especially with this. It was my very first time with the program. I've obviously grown as an artist since 2 years ago.. so in my eyes, yeah -- I definitely see where I could improve on things.. but that's what art is about! Always improving your craft. :) Thanks again!
It's pretty clear this is a practice piece. Which is fine, what's NOT fine is showing people practice pieces. Do NOT SHOW PEOPLE PRACTICE PIECES. unless of course you think they are genuinely impressive, and then only AFTER you take serious stock of your personal bias. "Does this suck? I don't think so, but I made it, I can't tell" That should be your thought process.
There's a hundred things wrong with it, if your art instructor isn't useless, then he/she will point it out for you.
@oEQjet YouTube is a video hosting site, and people decide for themselves if they want to view a video or not. If people get angry because they just clicked on a video they didn't want to see, in this case a practice piece, they've got themselves to blame. And there might be something wrong in their heads.
@Demoras YES!! PEOPLE SHOULDN'T HAVE INEVITABLE REACTIONS TO HAVING THEIR TIME WASTED.
... or maybe you mean that it's the viewers fault that they watched it in the first place? I don't see "Do not watch" anywhere in the title
Effects balloon when you deal with more then one person, you can spend weeks on something and it can only waste 10 seconds of a persons time, but if you waste 10 seconds of 100,000 people, you have caused measurable harm. Don't upload crap.
@42ndIcicle I definitely agree with you.. but for a homework that was due the next day, this is what I could come up with in a night's worth of time. :)
You mean take my video, for example, and transform it back into its 3D state so you can edit it again?
No, there would be no way for any program to do that since a video rendered out is simply as if a camera is viewing open space. In order to get a video's 3D elements you'd need the original file and the program it was made on.
So you "attached" 2d layers in 3d space to form 3d objects? Even those edgy pipes? If so, it turns out that you have spent much time making this then :)
If I remember correctly, I think I spent 4-6 hours on it. It was for class, so I did it throughout the week before it was due for the next class. It was fun. :)
wow someone actually watched? haha. I meant for this to be for friends - but cool. Yeah, some graphics are 2D.. but it's all still within a 3D World. :P It's After Effects not Maya. :) lol
