i just recently found your videos and this will help me so much for my exam on the chemistry section, where i usually blank out! i really appreciate you taking the time out of your day to help people in need. :)
Wow. your slides are easy to study and it covers almost everything in the textbook! Its lucky that i read this one day before my chemistry examinations. Its helpful and nice, gonna download to my phone :P
One thing, considering improving on the sound. i am using a all in one PC running on windows 7 and using an audio technicha earpiece and had to on both my youtube sound and pc sound to max in order to hear clearly :P
@ongyxuan Funny thing is that I had a heavy duty microphone that broke down when I made 4 or 5 of my videos. I couldn't tell too much because on my macbook the sound wasn't too bad.
I'm glad I was able to help you. Best of luck with your studies.
you are a really good teacher.. my teacher at school doesnt explain that well .. I m going blank anytime im in my class.. Thank you so much for sharing this :D
great video! thank you soo much. I have exams coming up on the 24th of january and this video helped me review faster and better than I normally would've.
P.S your voice was really quiet and my spekers were on max
@navmeetjassal Thank you for watching. Best of luck with your exam in January. As for the sound, it depends on the computer. On my mac I can hear it but on some of our school computers it is very low.
Thank you for those kind words. Check out my video on electron dot diagram and check out any of my videos on VSPER Theory. Best of luck with your studies.
The separation between ionic, poly and covalent really helped. Each video I've watched has helped clear up my understanding. I don't know why some instructors make this more difficult than it needs to be. Thanks Mr. P, I'll be following the videos on this subject! Great help, please know you are making a difference in my education!
Ya I ended up fixing it for the later videos. I may update this one at a later time. Thanks for watching and your kind words. Best of luck with your studies. Have a great summer.
when looking at the periodic table look to see where each atom appears with regards to that step ladder around the Aluminum atom. Atoms to the left of them are metals and the atoms to the right are non-metals. Ionic compounds are made of atoms that have a metal and a non-metal. Covalent compounds only are atoms that have 2 or more non-metals (including Hydrogen). I hope this shed some light. Best of luck with your studies.
You've taught me more in an hour than my chemistry teacher has in 4 months. But how come some covalent bonds have triple bonds and others single etc. Such as N2 bonds.
Thank you for watching. With regards to N2, look at just 1 nitrogen atom. It contains 5 valence electrons. Which means that it will need 3 more electrons to become stable. These atoms usually contain 4 "pairs" of electrons. But this only works when it has 8 total electrons. Anyhow, according to this Nitrogen contains only one pair of electrons and 3 single electrons. Therefore you need to add 3 other single electrons to pair them up. This is what accounts for the triple bond.
i was wondering why the sound is so low , i really want to watch this video you really know what your talking about can i download it throught i tunes please help
Some of my videos unfortunately have had some audio issues. Yes, all my videos are found on iTunes and with a set of earphones you should have no problems listening to them. Thanks for watching, best of luck with your studies.

How do you know, if you were witting the compound name from the formula, which element to list first?
diln5 2 years ago
You write it in the order it appears. Ex:
CO2 - carbon dioxide
carbon was first followed by oxygen
thanks for watching. Best of luck with your studies.

Question: How can you tell if a formula is covalent or ionic? just by looking at the formula like KCI. This is really confusing me.
Thanks so much for all your videos. You are a great teacher!

thankyou for making these videos...it helps me revise A LOT for science tests!
though, when making fomulas for covalent compounds...for example oxygen dichloride do we write O-1 2CL-1? or do we write O-1 Cl-2?
so if we also write sulfur Trioxide as S-2 3O-2 is that correct?
pixelated111 3 years ago
Thanks for watching.
oxygen dichloride - formula is OCl2 - we drop the 1
sulfur trioxide - formula is SO3 - I noticed you added the number 2 after the S. Not true, otherwise it would have been called disulfur (2 sulfurs)
Keep in mind that the charges of each atom are unnecessary when writing the formula of each compound when given the name.
Best of luck with your studies. Let me know if this has helped you.
