Why Pearl or Ludwig? There are many drums out there... I personally like Sonor drums. The sound of the drums is influenced by the type of wood used, the heads, and the drummers ability to tune the drums... a good drummer can make a cheap set rock! As for cymbals... Zildjian fo sho!

I've always been a fan of Tama, but if you want something a bit less common but a great sounding kit.. look up slingerland. Tre Cool from Greenday uses Slingerland, or did at least for a while.

i like the ZBT's but the Acustoms are the best. look at an A-custom hi-hat and then a ZBT crash and ride cymbol. the kid doesnt matter too much, and i doubt youll get a pearl or ludwig just starting out..... tamas,yamahas, and pearls are the best. But i personally use an SP kit with really nice evans heads, make the cheaper kit sound better than a yamaha

They've been accused of being corporate for so long. Kurt Cobain even considered them corporate way back when, but now he's dead, and Pearl Jam is still around making music. I think it's safe to say they are not corporate any longer. They are one of the few bands to have survived the "grunge" era and STILL make music after. PJ is definitely an outstanding band.
