I know this technique I use it a lot and its a great one but I'm curious as to why you took a picture of the tap rather than scanning it. I'm thinking either you might not of had one handy or that the light from the scanner would make the black gray as well. I only ask this cause I make my tap in photoshop and was going to try this method for a more personalized feel.
