Pink fans listen to the song "Leaving This Town" by the Beach Boys. There is a great live version on YouTube. It was released on the Holland album the same year as Dark Side of the Moon. It has similar chords but with a different sound, though equally trippy when you listen to the whole song. I love classic rock and think that more people need to recognize that the Beach Boys were "Heavy" too, not just surf pop. Two of the Beach Boys even sang on "The show must go on" & "Waitng for the worms."

I'm not saying they are ripped off, but David Gilmour has said he originally wanted to sing harmonies like the Beach Boys, so these songs must have had some influence on him. I love both, yet feel like the Beach Boys get a bum oldies rap when Brian's writing and production really pushed the boundaries of what music could be and helped to create "stoner" music.

It's more the commercialisation that worries me, and how that impacts the music itself. I admit I don't like certain sounds like, say, death metal, but I can at least appreciate that those bands make an effort to express themselves and write music which they feel defines them.
