@drumstyx6464 I was trying to figure this out all day. I'm pretty sure it's: 1 measure of 8/8, 1 measure of 9/8, then 4 measures of 9/16 (the trippy, off-sounding part). I could DEFINITELY be overthinking it - it could just be that they're playing in 9 and extending the beat every-so-slightly (basically, a sixteenth note)
I think musicians are the only people who could actually appreciate what they are doing... I can see how a non musician could hate this (but i love it)
they are not adding beats man. just stretching it. if you count through that part with the original 'beat', you will come back together with the band at the end.
@WillBraden This drummer is pro, but you dont understand a bit what was his intention. And probably you dont get purpose of whole cover and that rhytmic anomalia. Whatever.. Arhytmy and disharmony is a purpose in this cover.
@JohnFruscianteSVK Half of what you are saying are not actually words, but regardless, I completely understand the "point" of people making music like this. But doing it for the sake of doing it just produces jumbled nonsense. And when you take a known song with a normal rhythm and mush it all up like this, it begs the question, "What's the point?" It's just people trying to be cool and weird for weird's sake. I'm sure there will always be an audience for that, but to me the emperor is naked.
@WillBraden Well that is quite disrespectful arogant point of view. " I do not like it, so all of you who do are just pretenders, doing it for the sake of it bla bla ". You are just like an 80 years old guy on a metal concert arguing about how wonderful music was back in his times. No man, Noooo. There are 4x4meters big white paintings with red dot in the mid sold for milions. Freedom of expression. Maybe if you could play it, you would understand that weird feeling behind it.
@JohnFruscianteSVK When Paul Desmond wrote "Take Five", he didn't just take some song and add another beat to it. Real innovation is harder. And of COURSE this is all my opinion...is it necessary to start off EVERY sentence with "in my opinion" just to placate those who jump to cliched arguments (like the old people with metal)? Look, you ever heard of a band called Battles? GREAT stuff with strange syncopation, disharmony, etc. And I love them. This just doesn't work for me. It's masturbation.
@WillBraden This was not supposed to be an inovation, it is just bunch of people having fun covering wellknown song. I can play that song in a million was if it makes me feel right. It is not about being strange, its about freedom of expression, do what you like to do. Battles? Ok? And what if another arogant ass like you come around and say, that Battles are just masturbating bullshit? So if this "just doesnt work for you" ,please at least do not insult drummer or people who like it. Peace
@JohnFruscianteSVK You're a dramatic guy, man. All of this started from one little comment, that I doubt anyone from the band will ever see. Have a beer and relax.
@Czekaj88 he was a good songwriter, and I don't dislike the style... I just can't stand it because I heard every nirvana song about 100,000 times during high school.
Oh my holy balls of steel you guys suck.

Has this drummer played drums prior to this? Because if not, and this is his first go at it...it's still pretty miserable.

@JohnFruscianteSVK If someone insults anything on YouTube, I'm reminded tat it's YOUTUBE. Artists have thick skin, even ones that masturbate.

How is it that I cannot stand to hear the original versions of Nirvana songs, but if I hear a good cover of one, I love it?

@zerothought Maybe you dont like their style, but Kurt Cobain was amazing songwriter!

@jordanforever21 jazz is, in many cases, an acquired taste. I understand where you're coming from. Plus, this cover kinda falls apart near the end.

She's not permanent, but I love her dry delivery and subtle use of effects; I think its very fitting for the ensemble.
