lol, I think I'm going to have to agree with h2h2h2h2 on this one. Way back when they first created Lara Croft, there weren't that many girls who played video games. Today, there is a decent size of the gaming community that is female.

Regardless they did a good job with her and the series and everybody loves her.

Not at all. My wife loves tomb raider and sometimes it's really hard to get her to turn it off. Even though her original target was guys doesn't mean she doesn't have any appeal to girls. It just means back in the day, it was pretty much a male dominated market. I love the fact that I can get my wife to play Xbox with me and that there are some games that she actually enjoys playing.
