I think people have focused on this because it's a microcosm of the criticism they have for Mr Lamb. The basis is that most of George Lamb's demographic is between 14-25's, most of which do not know much about the Kinks. I know, I'm in that demographic.
His introduction for him was impressive, made him look important. He asked him a few quick questions at the start based on nothing in particular, just to get in the mood of interviewing. Even the best interviewers do this. Lamb didn't make him look like a prat at all, and was more than kind when he claimed the line was bad.

The appearance on Lamb's show was for DAVIES' benefit. He was trying to plug his new musical, and Lamb gave him the stage for that. Even if Lamb didn't address that straight away, do YOU honestly think that 'I don't wanna play spelling conests' was a good enough excuse to hang up on the man who's giving you a platform to plug your shit?

It was Ray Davies who was rude. Pretending to not be able to hear the host of the show, and then refuse to come back on air. That's some audacity he's showing. And Lamb's reaction is exactly what I would have done, since Ray obviously didn't think enough of his fans to tell Lamb what was wrong live on air.

In fairness, him spelling "F-U-C..." is funnier than anything Lamb says in the one minute they're talking to each other. And anyone who has enough of a sense of humour to come out with "Dedicated Follower of Fashion" or "All Of My Friends Were There" is OK by me.

Whoops, didn't mean to remove acertainromance's comment there, only to reply to it. I don't know why George accused Ray of being pretentious anyway, it's not like George even knew about 'A Soap Opera' and 'Return To Waterloo' to begin with.
