  • the supermarkets are not interested in peoples health just profit and more profit.what do these fish eat in this toilet river?the female fish are also injected with growth hormones derived from urine apparently.thats enough for me to go vegetarian.

  • fuck the filthy catfish and the grubby cunts im an aussie can catch me own beautiful reef fish

  • i'm sure it's sweet if you cook at high temps in a curry or something.

  • I ate this the other day (bought it from woolies) and then got the shits. Looked it up today, and found this and other lovely information about the Basa fillets :/

  • basi tt give a shitt give a shii

  • scheißegal, friss den schlitzaugenfish! hauptsache du musst nicht kotzen. mahlzeit! bösefrech germany

  • The fack... A one-man fishing farm and he had a knife??? One man? Stop being ridiculous.

The fish farms are far away from the living area and the water flow is constantly refreshing. Much better than the fishes that are caged in a closed area.

And family raised techniques are totally a different from farm raised fishes for export. This report is so skewed and biased.

  • Vietnam Laos Cambodia etc..the government should do it now just clean that fish river for good. The best way government has to move those house out and do not let them continue comming live on those water river!! it make vietnam country dirty?

  • This is called campaign of Basa fish in foreign countries in order to take it down because they know they don't have any more choice to win the Basa Fish in local area just only one way that impact to people of thinking , that is a bad fish and stop to consume it. Some people say this fish is fed by shit , it is also completely wrong, if u enjoy to know more please search on Wiki

  • wow! I had a pet like that and i bought for 5$ hahahahah

  • This report looks like its made by the fishing Industry of Australia. Everything that is shown here looks to superimpose our idea of dirtiness on to this fish. Aussie fishermen want to earn millions without moving their bum. In this days of global competition they are hit hard. Hence this attempt to fool Aussies.

I love Basa. First time I ate was in Melbourne. Since then I am hooked on to it.

  • OMG those house live into the river is make very dirty river.. why don't the vietnam government kick those house to somewhere else..

  • i would demand this dipshit get off my property too. this is complete rubbish

  • basa is yummy. I eat it every other day without fail. while basa is 7 times cheaper than most local fish, I'll continue to et it.

  • I don't trust a single word today tonight says...

  • a good warning to Vietnamese commies who have done nothing to clean up the environments nor help the peasants

  • I'm so glad I looked up this fish on the net. I thought I bought Bass since Basa sounded close. It's the first time and the last time - knowing where this fish came from I feel put off. I didn't even like its taste - didn't have any taste and the texture was too soft.

  • Not surprising! As we've seen, farm raised fish are more likely to contain carcinogens and everything man produces in volume is tainted in some way. Why? To put it quite simply ... our standard of living has been on a downtrend over the past few decades due to corporate and government greed!!!!! Food prices may appear to still be relatively affordable but that is not true! To get healthy untainted food you have to spend a lot more and not buy from mainstream sources like the general public.

  • Just because the water is dirty, doesn't mean the fish is dirty. These journalists are just trying to stir up controversy for profit.

  • @DancingHorses26 how exactly can the fish be clean if they live in dirty water? that's like saying spraying poison on celery won't make the celery full of pesticides, when it's entirely made up of the water/pesticides you feed it. That's like saying that even though we breathe polluted air, we're not taking poison into our lungs. of course journalists expect to profit. everyone hopes to get paid for their job. it's their job to bring people of the world information they do not know.

  • @guy2film "how exactly can the fish be clean if they live in dirty water?"

How exactly can your vegetables be clean if they're fed with cow shit?

You see how ridiculous you sound? You're argument is the same as: "You are what you eat".

Didn't the reporter mention this is Australia's most selling fish? Ever hear about Australian mass sickness caused by contaminated fish? No? Then shut the fuck up.

Only brainless cretin needs the news to think for them, congratulations moron.

  • panga as the cat fish is known in europe,is now in chippers throughout europe also, its an absolute disgrace no levy's no inspections monitoring this fish which is a cheap tasteless alternative to our own beautiful atlantic resourse!

beware of skinned fish in your local chipper

  • that is fucking rank!!!

  • this was all a lie. this isnt even the place that the basa fish come from. it was all a campaign to stop people buying imported fish. think about it, why would australia, who have such stringent quarantine laws, would allow such a dirty fish?

  • @Hellbarda

All a lie? Today Tonight might specialise in garbage journalism but how about you cite some evidence to back up your claim? I wouldn't eat Basa if you paid me!

  • "Wouldn't want to dip your toe in it" ? I found that very insulting coming from a professional reporter criticizing other people's living environment. And why does the Australian people hate Asian so much, like Japanese and their whaling; now Vietnamese and their fish farms.

  • @dataznguy5 What in the HELL are you talking about being "insulting"? And your claim that Australians hate Asians is laughable.

  • @RThirty4 These people are living on less than a dollar a day, they are doing their best to survive in a such environment. A reporter like her, who live in a fancy house, wouldn't even come close to understand how harsh it is living in that state, left alone saying "wouldn't want to dip your toe in it". Saying that is basically insulting the environment and the way those people live their lives.

  • @dataznguy5 Sure, I see what you're getting at in regards to how hard they live and work and get so little in return - but the Mekong *is* a filthy river, and hygiene and contaminants in the Basa has been established. I don't see how that translates to an "insult". The environment those fish are farmed in *is* filthy, that is the reality!

  • @RThirty4 Yes, but what filthy to us is still a source of life for others and hence shouldn't be ridicule. It's just what i think.

  • @dataznguy5 I con't agree with you entirely, not all Australians hate Asian people. Some of my best friends are Japanese, Vietnamese,Thai Korean and they are wonderful people. But a ridiculous amount of people judge them and their culture based on the stupid assumptions they make from seeing over exaggerated 'issues' such as these fish farms. They make comments such as 'Fuck Japan and its whaling' when only a small percentage of the Japanese population agree with whaling, many find it very cruel

  • @tuffyrox the only best way. The International News has to report to Vietnam government move those house out and do not let them live into the river water. so the fish will be good.

  • there are far worse thing that you can eat; chips, burgers, hotdogs, cheesecake, etc, etc

  • Oh goodness. I just prepared & served basa fish to my family. I wanted to know more about the fish & ended up here!! Oh boy, wait till I show the others this video........

  • I've just went to a safeway supper market (woolworth) and saw the Basa fillet selling there....so this mean some Aussies dont care about the other Aussies talk, therefore after 2 years since this report on air they still eat that s*** come from the "Toilet bowl of asian" and I believe that dumb supper market still doing good business because that ugly, "Bottomfeeder" fish still alive & kicking...oi...oi...oi !!!

  • @nikoolaii Much like factory chicken, as opposed to free range. How people can eat the factory chooks is beyond me. They look, smell and taste disgusting. If I couldn't afford to buy better fish or chicken, I'd simply go without and eat something else.

  • yeah but these people are more normal than ya'll, the Austria and the U.S. you never hear anything about people going around and kill people for fun in Vietnam. Never hear anything about canibal in Vietnam, but you hear shit like this in Western world.

  • Toilet bowl of Asia, that just about sums up the Mekong i saw on my last visit. Fish /prawn farming is the most disgusting practice along side battery chicken farming. Polution and the high use of chemicals is the danger. Read Taras grescoe's lastest book called "Bottomfeeder" and i doubt you would want to eat farmed fish ever again.

  • tastes nice though

  • ha..... just got some in the UK they are selling it as an exotic option for cod.....shit im going to eat it...iwill report if i die!!!

  • FUCK OFF LIFELESS COCK MUNCHER

  • nice so its true the peasants are still revolting

  • I had ate vietnamese river cobblers (Pangasius) before. Its very tasty that I bought 2 bags of river cobbler fillets and 1 bag of basa fillets. I didn't realized they are the same kind of fish. After hearing about Mekong river and reading this kind fish on the internet. It really frighten me that I end up throwing all 3 bags in the trash. I know its such a waste but I don't want to take a chance of getting myself or anybody ill.

  • human are so contradict ! , cheap toy from china ,Yes , then complain unreliable, cheap sex in thailand,Yes , then complain about aids.cheap food from asia , yes, then now complain about poison, some brand od sport shoe sell US 150 but pay some asia worker 1 dollar a day, tell me the loigic behind.so tell me what this worls had become.

  • I went to the Mekong in NE Thailand and it was the most Crystal Clear water I have ever seen and with white sandy beaches too.

  • But seriously, a few years ago I met a guy (Aussie, I think), who had bought a shrimp farm in Vietnam. He was in the process of paying a HUGE chunk of change to fly some American inspector out (USDA? FDA? I can't recall which agency) in order to get approval to export his product to the U.S. I would think the same would apply to other types of aquaculture, and to exporting to Australia. Anyone have more info on this?

  • Catfish,AWESOME,AWESOME, AWESOME AWESOME, AWESOME!!!!!

  • she said it was so filthy you wouldent want to dip ur toe in it. What an uneducated remark, sure in the harbour and city you wouldent want to, like other cities australias sydney harbour is filthy as well, doesnt mean all of the Mekong is dirty. Bet she is an armchair journalist. Rant over.

  • @kookaburrakookaburra Well said!!!!!
