  • Its like im watching a pentrex video from the 90's!

  • Thanks for uploading these brings back memories

  • Great old school video.

  • Nice video! I'm trying to find the footage my dad took of the San Diegan ten years ago.

  • I remember those trains use to have such a long dwell time at stations because of the ammount of time it took for passengers to board the train, plus the time it took to manually open the sliding doors and drop the stairs.

Nowadays, the Surfliner stops, doors open automatically, passengers get on without the need to climb stairs, doors close, and the train is off!

  • i have a question...was the interior of one of those amphleet coaches for the san diegan better than the surfliner ones?

  • Never rode a surfliner, but the AmFleet coach seats were two on each side of the isle, as good or better than first class airline seats.

  • @jpkazarian The surfliner cars are much better. Ride Amtrak #799 from LA Union Station (which still uses amfleets) then ride an actual Surfliner train on the way back and see for yourself.

  • I've been on both... I liked the surfliner better because it smelled better (the amfleet I went on smelled horrible), the seat material wasn't too warn out, and you get a good view from the 2nd level. Besides that, everything else is the same (2 seats on each side)... I can't remember if the amfleets had a/c power (i think they did).

  • 220 is in the chicago yard renumbered as 90220 :O crazy!

    nice vid too btw

  • and 224 on the end is 90224! thats funny how that ended up!

  • lol i didn't even notice. hell yeah thats great. two vintage engines still out there :P

  • All the way man!

  • No they are not they had there engines and motors removed and are used as baggage cars.

  • I think what utcada was saying was that these two units are still in service, regardless of what form they're in today. Given that most of the F40s were scrapped, it's interesting that both of these two survived, regardless of the fact that they're only "cabbage" units today.

  • Great footage and sweet P5! It's a trip to see how different this station looks now a days.

  • Will make a point to see Santa Ana station on next California visit.

  • Well, the simple description, before you get there, is that the signals were moved about half a mile north, that middle platform is gone, replaced with another platform on the outside of the rails with a bridge at the southern end of the station, and the surrounding neighborhood is much more developed... The usual changes. What an awesome video, I love seeing how things have changed.

  • Wow To think 10 years ago this is all we had in san diego, Thank god we have tons of footage of F40's including an All F40 Starlight and Desert Wind

  • Great Video-

  • /when was video taken

  • August 27, 1993.

  • So were both locos under power, or was it just the lead unit doing the pulling?

  • Both were under power.

  • Pretty cool. They run a 9-car surfliner train today, and another rare video of a P5A horn sound.

  • wow, good old video!

  • 5***** and Favorite!

  • This is some major hard core historical footage right here!
