  • If you were from the MA. N.H. R.I. area in the 80's, this song was a local radio staple and for a good reason- timeless song!

  • Greater song from a great Boston band.

  • This song is in the Grown Ups movie!!! :) It reminds me of Greg Khin meets Patti Smith.

  • saw them many times they are part of boston rock.....my band played at many of the same venues..

it was the 70's-80's if you were not there then you just don't know....

Robin Lane rocks!!!!!!! she always will!!

  • I saw Robin and the Chartbusters play at a small theater in Worcester MA back around 1980... about the same time DEVO had "Whip It" on the charts... But in the Worcester area, this tune was an 'anthem" type smash hit.

  • To me, her albums are classics. Still have them both on vinyl along with a live EP that has a cool cover of Shakin All Over. Never saw her in a club setting but I did see her open for the Kinks at the Prov Civic center in 1980.

  • Hey guess what? I heard the song "when things go wrong" will be in Adam Sandlers next movie "grownups" coming out this summer. That is very cool.

  • Saw them at Rocky Point Park!

God, I'd love to go back!

  • The Chartbusters came through Austin around '85- just absolutely torched the place.

  • Robin Lane is the BEST girl rock and roller ever invented!

    And I hate girl musicians.

She's original, has a great band, nice looking and writes GREAT songs.

I wish she became famous so I could apply for a HOUSEBOY position!

Being talented and goodlooking doesn't get you noticed.

    I should know!

    taxiboysdrummer

  • why was THE SHAKE backing her up and not the CHARTBUSTERS a this point?

  • Andy Summers had great taste. Beautiful and talented woman Robin Lane is great here.

  • AWESOME.

  • I had a crush on her too, saw them in Lowell at some old ballroom around 80 or 81.

  • I remember this song from MTV days. Thanks for this.

  • Grover's, Beverly Mass....those where the days! Thanks for posting.

  • Back in the 80's I saw Robin Lane and the Chartbuster,at a club called "The Shaboo" what a great place that was to see shows....

  • and don't forget THE MOHAWK CLUB in Shirley, Ma!!! The Living Room in Providence

  • I had such a crush on her back in the day...

  • The early 80s in Boston was full of great local music.

there was a band called Face to FAce that I saw at Bunratty's in Allston that were among the best.

  • I saw them in Lynn,Ma Harbour House. Her farther played the piano with Dean Martin on his variety show. Kenny Lane

  • It doesn't matter who's backing her..,Robin Lane is a great talent!

  • I saw her at MIT about 1980. Loved this song then. Love it now. She also did some backing vocals for Neil Young on Everyone knows this is nowhere.

  • remember when.. I saw robin lane and the chart busters around 1980 at wellesly college in massachusetts when I was a kid

    awesome

  • I love Robin & have worked with her, she is tops

  • This is an amazing women. She is so nice. I have met her a cuple of times in LA. She has really good songs..

  • I opened a few shows with her 1977-1979. Great person and a great song. Also a hello to Patrick

from The Shake, Reminds me of Gullivers with Rizz, Arrow, The Beaver Brown,The Other Half, Steve Smith and many others.

  • I was also at the UNH show in 81. The Neighborhoods were also there that night with The Rings and Robin Lane and the Chatbusters. Great night of music.

  • Getting too old. 100% sure I saw Robin Lane at the Living Room in Providence the first time after she cut her hair. "The Shake" seems vaguely familiar. 99% certain I saw them at some point but I couldn't tell you anything about them. Used to hang out at JR's Fastlane, but that was back in the days of open bar. It's quite a blur after 25 years.

  • Things get even "blurrier" after 35 years. Let's see... 10th grade High School, "Aerosmith" at Brandeis University 1974--that's all I can tell you about the show, except maybe "Passing Out"---ha ha

  • A very rare find and a great song...you made one longtime fan very happy thanks...Robin latest album called piece of mind[released 2002] is very good..check it out

  • Saw Robin Lane and the Chartbusters at Rocky Point Park in R.I. back in the 80's with The Joe Perry Project and the Schemers, She had a lot of great tunes, don't know what she's doing now (I heard a woman DJ on one of the oldies channels on XM named Robin Lane and I wondered if it was her)also heard The John Pussette Dart Band perform this song in the mid 70's, I don't know who originally wrote it, gotta dig up my old albums!

Good to see this video, keep up the good work!!

    Ron

  • She works with Women Trauma Victims, and uses Music to help the women coup with their past and move on!

    Sweetest lady!!!

  • It's originally by Pousette Dart

  • This is not an original Pousette Dart song. It was written by Joanne Cipolla with assistance from Robin in 1978 or 1979.

  • Thanks HC, I stand corrected.

  • musicfanaz

I would like to see more video's posted up on you tube of Robin's other songs also.I bought the album without ever hearing or knowing their music when it was first released, because the band was from my area.

I was really surprised, and how the band and the songs were great.

  • oh..and THANK YOU for the clip ;-)

  • WOW! Now there is a BLAST!!

I was also at the Rat and Channel shows.

Wendy Williams, SRV!! also both at the Channel. Man o man! THE RAT! hahaaa..THE POLICE!

    HOW CAN I SATISFY!!!!!!!?????

  • tears are falling ...

in spring/1981, i was a freshman at salem (MA)state college. i went with a pal up the coast to a mixer at endicott college. robin lane and the chartbusters were the entertainment.

i was a fly on the wall, but became a lover of this song for life.

that year was both the best and the worst of my life. 17, a free-spirit, away from home for the first time, searching for my identity, and a girl. tragically, my mom had just succumbed to cancer.

    robin gave me courage.

  • i like the intro...its very byrds-esque :)

  • wow!, thanks for posting

  • Great song

  • my favorite band ever - the shake!!!!!!!!!!

patrick, rich, gordon and anthony - the best !

    missed always!

  • I saw the same concert and also saw them both at the Channel and the Rat in Boston, Damn they were both great bands that had no national reconition because of there lame record companies.

  • Wow, ask and the internet will bring you. I saw Robin Lane and the Chart busters I think it was 1981? at the University of New Hampshire. Anyway, she was back up for The Rings, a Boston based band (kind of sounded like The Cars) that made air play in New England at least. It was a great show.

  • Robin Lane was Martha Davis before Martha Davis was Martha Davis.

  • Thank you thank you thank you!!!!

  • its so great to see this! thanks!!!

  • Thank you Annashouse!. It was so nice to see the shake playing again. And...seeing as we're talking about The Shake..I also knew them for years...back when Peter Cronin and Jean Dumont were in the band ( Arrow )....and I took piano lessons fron Anthony. Find some more videos of t

  • Always loved this song.Think I'll grab the cd of this album...now!

  • Robin Lane rules & rocks!!!!

  • Wow, where the hell did u get this gem?!!! THE SHAKE were a local RI band, but her original band, was the chartbusters. I saw and met Robin Lane at the original LIVING ROOM in downtown Providence in late 1979. Rhode Island had many great band then: HI BEAMS, THE PROBERS, THE SCHEMERS, RASH OF STABBINGS, THE MUDANES

  • The show at Rocky point was awesome, but the Schemers were a stain on an otherwise great show, they stunk it up huge!! (I almost left!) Robin Lane and The Joe perry Project absolutely ROCKED!

  • You must have seen a bad Schemers show because they were a really good band..excellent tunes. I did see Mark Cutler look very disinterested at times though.

  • I never cared for "Punk" music and the Schemers where hardcore, I can't stand it when a "singer" gets up to a microphone and shout's out unintelligable jiberish and obscenities, it's so juvenile and hurts my ears!

I also appreciate music that has a determinable rythme and maby a melody would be nice as well?

You might think I don't "Get" Punk music and you would be correct, I never have.

Loved Robin Lane and Joe Perry tho,

  • @Mytoob69 You absolutely have the Schemers mixed up with someone else. The Schemers were SO far from Hardcore it's not even funny. Thaey had pop sounding songs with nice melodies. Look them up here on youtube and you'll see that it's not possibly the Schemers you're talking about.

  • Raza,

My appologies, I did check out the band The Schemers on Youtube and this is not the band I saw in the 80's, the vidio I saw had a note that they should not be confused with the band of the same name from NY, which I apparenty did!

The NY band (The one I saw) sucked on toast and I am sorry for the confusion, Thanks for setting me strait!

  • Robin Lane has an organization that helps heal women who have been through trauma by teaching them songwriting. I went to a fund raiser for it and she played there. I liked how she seemed to put so much emotion and soul into her singing and guitar.

  • This hit the juke boxes at the same time as 'London Calling' (Clash) and 'Accidents will Happen' (EC) in 1980, and got played just as much. Great post.

  • Yes, one of the guitar players is Leroy Radcliff from the Chartbusters, the rest of the band is The Shake a band from RI who backed Robin for a few months. I'm glad you enjoyed the video.

  • Unless they go by 2 names that is the Chartbusters backing Robin in this video. I have the album and recognize them. I saw them live in 1980 when I was in college in Boston. They were a great live band and this video confirms my memory. Thanks for posting it.

  • As noted by annashouse, that is Robin Lane backed by The Shake with Leroy Radcliff playing guitar. I know because I am the keyboard player in the video and was in The Shake who can also be found on youtube. This performance was filmed by the BBC at an outdoor concert outside of London.

  • THIS SEEMS later than 1983 Anthony/ Her face and hair look so much different than when I saw her. I remember the shake well, just to prove it, I knew you when the band was called ARROW!

    GET BACK SOMETIME, Rich
