While working at a bike shop back in the 80's this guy came in and asked if I could fix his flat tire that punctured while on a ride. He said he wasn't from the area and asked for directions to another town . After fixing his flat I drew out a map for him. After thanking me he asked if I liked Doug and The Slugs. I said yes. He said, "I'll leave you a couple of tickets at the front door for the show we're playing tonight". He then rode away. It was the keyboardist Simon Kendall.

Convincing my dad that there was a group called Doug and the Slugs.

It took days of light teasing and dumb adolescent pranks but it was fun and after he saw this video on the New Music, he believed.

Doug once told me that he made all of his money off of this song when he sold it as a vacuum commercial. Sadly, the band doesn't own the rights to this recording of the song - so when you buy "greatest hits," it's a redo.

I was fortunate to to book the band a couple of times, in Alliston Ontario and Wasaga Beach. Doug personified entertainment and the band was good as any live. It is too bad that todays musicians could not witness what a live show should be like.

I lived in Trenton, Frankford and Roseland Acres area from 1981 to 1988. Loved Trenton. Most Strip clubs per capita then most cities.

Dutch was 1 of 4 strip clubs then.

$10.00 bucks to see doug and the slugs.

He actually came up behind me and tapped me on the shoulder as I had my back to him singing. I turned around and he opened my eye lids as I was hammered. I think he was telling me to sit down and watch the show. I guess it was kind of rude for me to have my back to them.lolololol

The Dutch Mill !!!! I was born and raised in Belleville. I worked the club scene here in Vancouver during Doug's hay day, and had the pleasure of working with him on a number of occaissions. He was a great guy to hang out with, and those of us who really knew him, still shed a tear when we hear one of his gems on the radio. RIP Mr. Bennett

Doug died October 16, 2004 in Calgary. He lapsed into a coma and never came out. An official cause of death was never released, but Doug had been sick for quite awhile. He had fallen upon hard times, which didn't do much for his health. He had been reduced to sitting on a chair onstage as he wasn't able to stand up for long. A terrible end for someone who had given so much to all of us.

It was filmed in 1982 at the Roxy Cinema, on the corner of Naniamo and Hastings Street, in Vancouver. The Roxy is long gone. It was torn down, and a RBC branch sits there now.

We loved these guys when I was living in a Katimavik group on Vancouver Island in 1980. We would dance like crazy to "Too Bad". I still have the 45 for that. I also saw them a couple of years later in Hamilton at a club downtown. Some kind of fun.
