  • This and Hairspray are two of John Water's films I can watch w/out cringing.

  • I eat my own shit too

  • yeah, I agree with the person asking about the song be my daddy baby. Is it available?

  • fucking amazing

  • I love this movie.

  • Thirty years ago, a few of my friends from work, had a few drinks, before we went to the now extinct movie theater on Wisconsin Avenue in Georgetown, D.C We were given scratch and sniff cards. When the movie came on, we were instructed whenever a number came on the screen, to scratch that number on our cards. Farts, flowers, dirty tennis shoes, perfume, etc. Laughing our heads off the entire movie. Nothing like it since. Thank you John Waters!

  • Im in Shock.

  • Never sniff a number 2.

  • i am not familiar with the type of thing i am now witnessing

  • YEEEESSSS

  • "French Provincial, they do their best to stay neutral"

Only Debbie Harry can write lyrics like that!

  • This movie i think is where john water's films got more polished. Which I mean as a compliment. =)

  • you crazy CRACKER !

  • @lizellerman haha , thats the part where my video lagged

  • This is a good one! It's not that smutty either, compared to his earlier films.

  • Loved going to lil show rooms where would still have the odorama cards...It was like going back in time.

  • Purr Francine! Purr, purr Francine!

  • i cant fap to this

  • LOL watched on betamax at about 7. Can't fault the dvd commentary/Nice one

  • checkout the Avalanches - Frontier Psychiatry available here on youtube, its the ideal tune to listen to for this film

  • This was such a funny movie! (My fave scene is when the kids drive around slapping people out the car window with brooms and a REALLY mad woman takes over a city bus and chases them.)

  • My 96-p. paperback "Along the Far Climb Down" is available at the notorious PolyEster Books in Melbourne, Australia...

  • todd is queer

  • lol this movie is so trashy/fun! BIZARRE! It's full of tacky cliches and a lot funnnier than this trailer makes it seem, imho.

  • Debbie Harry co-wrote all three songs on the soundtrack.

  • Somebody said that You Tube took the whole movie off. Bummer!

  • AMAZING! LOOOOVE

  • Divine was supposed to appear on Married With Children as Peggy Bundy's mother. Too bad she died before filming began. That would have been something to see.

    BTW, how did Divine die?

  • @MrBlackFabio You mean "too bad HE died before filming began." (answer to question: the cause of death was a heart attack).

  • @Jeteaime65 If Chastity Bobo can be a he......never mind.

  • @MrBlackFabio

Glenn Michael Milstead aka Divine died in his sleep. He had an enlarged heart.

  • @WhatSayestThou He died of a sleep apnea

  • Two wonderful things about this film: Todd Tomorrow and the classic line, "Children would only get in the way of our erotic lifestyle." Viva John Waters.

  • THAT BOY NEEDS THERAPY.

  • i miss divine <3

  • i wish JOhn Waters would make a new film. He hasn't done anything for a while.

  • The LAST cool JW movie in my opinion ( haven't cared so much for the ones he's made since ).

  • R.I.P Divine. Long Live JOhn Waters!!!!!

  • "The Best Thing" - Bill Murray on vocal lol

  • @ornellalovespersol I too have noticed that credit line, but am not sure it's the Bill Murry you're thinking of ?

  • @Skulldini it's Bill "Ghost Buster" Murray I'm thinking of :D

  • @ornellalovespersol Yeah,.. Ghostbusters, Stripes, Meatballs, early SNL,.. same one I was refering to ( though I accidently droped off a letter a when I typed his name below ).

  • such a good trailer.

  • john waters is pure fun!

  • does anyone know where I could get the song "Be my Daddy Baby" by Michael Kamen? I want it. No, I NEED it.

  • @yourdeadletzdisco i know! i do too. i've been looking everywhere.

  • @yourdeadletzdisco I'd like to find that too. Is that the song playing at the beginning of this trailer?

  • why have i never seen this?!!? My god, it looks amazing!!

  • good classic white trash

  • Best film ever!

  • What upsets me is that You Tube removed so many of the other scenes from the movie that were incredibly funny. Frankly, I wish someone would post the entire movie on YT, but alas, this has yet to occur.

  • It was on here once upon a time, good quality too. But it has been long since removed by those money hungry assholes.

  • Tell me about it, they just took off two other movies that I had been watching. I suppose that very soon they will have caught up to all of them, a possibility that I shudder to think about.

  • Francine appears to come from a once well to do family that lost their money, thus forcing her to marry Elmer, a man well below her social ranking but who has money due to his X rated theater. Notice how she and her mother LaRue act and speak like women who went to finishing school, and notice how the nouveau riche Cuddles is always asking Francine for advice about how to act, dress and talk. Man, it is tough to be fallen royalty!

  • This is the normal American family!! This is how the kids are today. Not like those freaked out fucking right wing Christians families that are portrayed on TV or those cheesie so-called sitcoms sucn as Friends (I think I am going to vomit). GO DIVINE...you are the best!!

  • like most of waters' films, it is so camp, funny and disturbing at the same time. this one deserves special recognition though because it does it without explicit sex or gross violence or anything like that

  • Simply the greatest trash soap opera movie ever made, it's a classic.

  • i have a date with an aangel

  • To be honest I cant tell what type of "trash" or "filth" level this is on, could someone tell me on 1 to 3 how "filthy" it is?

    LEVELS:

3:DIRTY, FILTHY- Pink Flamingos, Female Trouble and Desperate Living

    2:MESSY-IDK

    1:CLEAN-Hairspray and Cry Baby

  • It's rated R and very much on the level of Serial Mom. It's budget is between Serial Mom & Desperate Living. Dvd comes with an Odorama (scratch & sniff) card. I love this movie. Kinda dark & hysterical.

  • it's difficult to put it on a scale, because it is so disturbing, camp and funny, but it does it with none of the gross violence, explicit sex and perversion that is in other john waters films. it is certainly reccommended to any waters fan

  • @chilla20rag Closest to #1. Less polished than those movies. The only nudity is a pizza delivery guy in a jock strap in Divine's fantasy. It is NOT Pink Flamingos.

  • omg its the BEST movie eva!!!!!!!! who sings that song thatz playin? xoxo

  • the song is 'be my daddy baby' by michael kamen...i THINK the backing vocals are by debbie harry of blondie fame

  • awesomely terrible movie

  • It's Tod, honey. Tod Tomorrow.

Does anyone know where and how I can find Tab Hunter's song from the movie Polyester? (That last song played in the trailer)

  • It's ODORAMA. Not ORORAMA.

  • Horrorama! All numbers smell the same!

  • i think the problem with the odorama card is that the smells really linger once you scratch them...so as the movie goes on, the smells mix together

  • @sharplesal

where can i get 1 of those cards

    do u no?

  • @rocknrollporn I have a DVD that included a card. Cheers...

  • @rocknrollporn I got one with the DVD.

  • PURR FRANCINE, PURR PURR FRANCINE!!

    LOL!! Love Edith Massey

  • Whats the song at the beginning? Link?

  • The only way I know about this movie is because of The Avalanches "Frontier Psychiatrist"

  • I have one of the scratch 'n' sniff cards for this!

  • I just got this on DVD!

  • Tab Hunter dated Anthony Perkins from Psycho once.

  • One of my favs from the Pope of Trash. I wish he would do something like this again. After 'Pink Flamingos', 'Female Trouble', and 'Desperate Living', it was really shocking for people to see something as clean as 'Polyester' from John Waters. Even more so with' Hairspray' and 'Cry-Baby'. With 'Cecil B. Demented' and 'A Dirty Shame' (even though I love that film) I feel like now he's trying too hard at keeping up with his reputation.

  • I completely agree with you about A Dirty Shame. Sadder than Pecker.

  • You also forgot to mention Serial Mom.

  • What do you mean?

  • That was another film John Waters made that you forgot to mention!

  • actually, I think it's more a problem that the world has gotten worse than anything John could have imagined-and he has to work overtime to shock people. Now shows like "Fear Factor" are far worse than anything John could dream up-broadcast on network TV.

  • Yeah but Fear Factor is'nt imaginative or funny like Waters old movies were.

  • No, you're right, but that's not the point. The point is, that far more shocking things are on network television now than what was in his underground movies 30+ years ago. Shows like "Fear Factor" and Jerry Springer have made that part of his career obsolete. He's still very funny, but the shocking part simply isn't that shocking any more. In the era where someone can watch a person eat live maggots on a weekly basis, watching someone eat real poop-not such a big deal anymore.

  • Aw I cant agree, A Dirty Shame is fantastic!

  • This is a classic! John's movies became really watered down after this one.

  • I LOVE John Water's 70s and 80s trash. In fact, just about all of his work is cool :) I recently found the original Aussie home video release of this film in mint condition, for just $3!
