I dont think it really fits in the Olympic Games, but what the hell does these days, I mean Boxing and Batminton - seriously Olympics should be all about pure power and competing mainly against yourself and not others.

Dont really like to see sports with a "playful" touch there. But thats just my opinion.

You can the Olympic Gold on the grand slam list in golf. You have the Masters, The Open, US Open, PGA Open and golf in the 2016 Olympics. Awsome!

It would be an almost guarantee'd unknown medal opportunity. The only issue I see is other Tournaments being affected by the Olympics - it may be bad, but I can't remember what months the olympics are held. Would the top players opt for the money and to play the tournament, or would they opt in for 'honor and pride' and go for gold in spirit, but not in monetary terms? PS: I'm for golf at the olympics!

@specdecible John Daly won the 1995 british open (15 years ago) and has since improved rapidly from then. You don't see too many up and coming fat guys like john daly winning tournements these days now do you? They are all tall, strong athletes who are highly competitive and want to win, which is exactly what any other athlete for any other sport does. Even John Daly himself is trying to lose those extra pounds these days.

why? golf has been around for 300 years now maybe even more its complete tradition, oldest thing next to soccer, and not only that the contenders arent only all good USA players, in the pga tour you have people from Canada, Australia ,South Africa, Colombia, Brazil, Argentina, Japan, Korea, China, Spain , and all these contenders are winning in the pga! thats why it would be great to see them square it off and play for pride of where they learned the game!

If you havn't realized, tiger has not been winning as much as he use too. I think it would be an equal shot for all because a lot of countries have at least one player that can challenge woods or mickelson.

Golf really seems like a perfect sport for the Olympics. The only negative to it would be potential advantages to the "home" team who have played the particular course more than others... unless they'd build a new course just for the olympics.

first I want to say that golf is a great sport...

so i think it should get part in the Olympic Games...it would be another big event in the pga or european tour schedule

but it should be a tournament for pros and amateurs...the amateurs should have the chance to qualify for the olympic golf event...

i also think, that it will advertise in other countrys for new golfers...

the highest point in golf is winning a major. it will always be more prestigious. it's the same in tennis. you think the likes of nadal, federer and djokovic care half as much about the olympics as they do about the grand slams?

but for the people who have one majors this is the next step. and there are 4 majors a year in golf, the summer olympics are every 4 years and that means that in your career you have at most 7 chances, in majors you get 45-55 chances in your career.

I don't think golf should be in the olympics at the professional level... maybe if it was an amateur golf tournament that would be fine... But none of the golfers will take it as seriously as the majors. The best olympic sports are those that consider the olympics as the pinnacle of achievement

I was totally flabbergasted by this video because I have always assumed that golf is an Olympic sport. I mean: if skeet shooting, horse dressage, wild water canoeing and all other weird kind of sports are...

To hit a ball with a stick towards a certain goal is such a basic game that it should become an Olympic sport. And not just in 2016 but in 2012!

Golf is played world wide and many of the top players at the moment represent countries that are not so successfull at sport. For example Vijay Singh (Figi) and Camillo Villegas (Columbia). This sport would give every country the chance to compete and bring everyone together and that is what the olympics is all about!!

Jbtil, America is the dominant country in men's golf. If the European Ryder Cup team were made up of only players from England or only players from Germany or only players from Spain or whatever European country you choose exclusively to fill your team, the American squad would probably still dominate the event. Remember this. The main reason all of the other European countries now play in the Ryder cup is because the USA so thoroughly dominated Great Britain.

Golf should be in the olympics, it used to be in the olympic program, so is time to bring it back! Actually, there is a professional player either in the PGA or LPGA from each country that is bidding for the 2016 Olympic games, so that's a plus.

I think golf is a good sport for the olympics... only if the country chosen is conducive to golf. After all, Olympics is a serious stage and it's better to compete in a championship-quality golf course.

Once they do that, though, there can be an individual competition, alternate shot, better ball, etc.
