They made a big promotion and ads for this film. Well, I like it but it wasn't as touching as A Walk To Remember (2002), The Notebook (2004), The Painted Veil (2006), P.S. I Love You (2007) etc. Not even close. It seems to me that they missed a lot of the things but I was impressed by Channing Tatum's acting. He deserves such serious roles. Richard Jenkins was brilliant too

The book is much better. There was no chemistry between Channing and Amanda. The acting ...hmm just ok.

Boring !!! sorry i read such good reviews and then went to see this. The male lead had zero personality and the girl had no depth. It left so many things wide-open. What was with his violent past? Why did he freek out? The father/son relationship was as dull as the movie's use of the mood of 9/11. Right after 9/11, they were driving in the car, talking about usual boyfriend girlfriend talk. So exciting was that she said her only fault is that she curses and we never got to hear any of it.

What the hell? The one time they show a clip from The Notebook, and it just happens to be a clip of one person forceing a kiss on another person.

I haven't seen The Notebook, and showing that clip was a mistake, because now I just can't believe that it could be a good movie.

@Ondus2000 The Notebook is an excellent movie! It is full of raw emotion and true love. It is definately a must watch movie. Before you judge this one clip you should see the movie and understand how this clip is such a crucial turning moment. I hope maybe I can convince you to give this movie a try, it is a tearjerking wonder!

Look people when they take a book and turn it into a movie it's not going to be EXACTLY the same there will be differences! Usually the book is better than the movie-I dunno about this one-can't decide, the only movie thats better than the book is Love Story (my favorite)- made in 1970 check it out, will be buying dear john on dvd when its released!!

ok the movie sucke i dint like it some part had some mix to it and i hate it like Savannah being with the guy then there not together anymore so on even titanic was hurtful and people survived on titanic suffering

any movie that can make me cry is good. It was definitely not as good as the book but I think that if u have read the book, u understand it more, so you can bring in what happens in the book while watching the movie

How can that guy say this movie is better then the Notebook? Dear John is one of my all time favorites books but I wouldn't put the movie on my top list for movies. It seem very rushed and the ending compared to the book is bad. But some people I think will like the happy ending. I like happy endings don't get me wrong but thats why I liked the book so much better it showed how much John cared for her and it left you thinking would you do the same for someone you loved. Its an ok movie not great

THE MOVIE SUCKED! everything was so different, it seemed like the movie was not even having to do with the book dear john. i was pissed off!!! the book was 100000 times betterr! i recommend the book not the moviee!

i LOVED dear john and i cried and everything but i don't think there's really a comparison to the notebook. the notebook is like, unbeatable. dear johns close up there with it but the notebook will always be my favorite movie <33333

I thought that the actress wasn't very convincing, the movie's plot was clunky and not smooth, and the twist near the end just ruins the movie! they could have worked on the ending! it looked like they ran out of money and stopped the clip.

@bayan93 wasn't very convincing? are you insane?? Amanda Seyfried is one of the top actresses in Hollywood! For real, you're gonna be seeing her alot more so get used to it ;) Maybe you should watch Big Love or see her in Jennifer's Body; she is amazing. Sorry you don't see what I see :)

tear jerker?!?! i started crying 15 minutes into the movie legit til the end and everybody else crying around me only made me cry even more! i loved it though and i cant wait til i can go back and see it over vacation.

I thought the book was amazing, and was so excited for the movie..but i did think they didn't focus in on the relationship and love as much as they should have..It just should have had a little more emotion. Still was a great movie
