Dell Inspiron 8100 can handle maximum of 512MB RAM memory & compatible memory for this laptop is: 133 MHz CL2 or CL3 3.3v non ECC SDRAM SODIMM. Details offered by: bestmemoryupgrade, com
For Dell Inspiron 1520 you need Memory Card Type: 667MHz DDR2-667 PC2-5300 200pin SODIMM. This Laptop has 2 memory slots, and it supports maximum of 4GB Memory. 2GB card per memory slot.
@AppleAndroidTuts It depends. some laptops have two rams installed (512 and 512), thus equals one gig. I just installed ram into my brothers laptop. Inspiron 1520s are quite unusual because the 2nd RAM slot is located under the keyboard. My older inspiron was never like that.
I have 2GB of ram, but want to upgrade to maybe 4GB. Should I get 2X2GB and replace both of the existing modules, or can I just get a single one and switch out one of the modules? Thanks!
I think you need 2 of the 1 ram memory, one goes under the keyboard and the other in the bottom of the laptop, like the video shows. you can try this email: server_izdp4206shj@members.ebay.com That's where I purchased mine. My laptop had 1 gb of ram and I wanted to upgrade so I had to purchase 2 of the 1 gb memory ram boards.
I think you need 2 of the 1 ram memory, one goes under the keyboard and the other in the bottom of the laptop, like the video shows. you can try this email: server_izdp4206shj@members.ebay.com That's where I purchased mine.
These instructions are in the manual on page 163. You can download the complete manual from the Dell wed site. Once on web site, click on support -then click manuals- put in model # , read and down load to your PC or flash drive. Make sure you have the latest version of Adobe to read the manual before you began.

Thanks for your tutorial. I am about to install 2 gigs memory into a Dell Inspiron E1505. I ordered 2 gigs from Crucial specifying my model laptop. Question: Anything I need to know before installing? Anything about the E1505 I should know? Again, thanks.
i have this laptop and the battery wont charge anymore, i tried new battery and new power adapter and still no luck ( they work on my friends laptop) . In bios (F2) the battery info : Charging Idle and AC not recognized.
Tried removing batery and power supply press the power buton 5-10 secs and still no luck.
When i pug power suply the battery led light goes yellow and also when i unplug the jack.
so you mean to say that all you do is replace the sticks and that is it. NO uploading, backing up , re booting or any of that non-sence? just a plug and play?
i followed your instructions and when i opened the section on the bottom half of the laptop i took the 1 gb stick of ram out because it had a little bit of dust so i blew on it then i put it back but now the computer is only recognizing 1 gb of ram, help me
can i put in a dell 2gb pc2-6400s-6 200p sodimm, and leave the other one gb stick so i have 3 gb ram , because i have a dell inspiron 1520 laptop aswell
man, i would never had thought the other slot was under the keyboard! You would think dell could have had the two slots together when building the computer. And to answer some of you, yes 4gig is the highest. Meaning 2gig modules in each slot.
Quick question though...are both slots empty by default from the factory? Or do I actually need to replace the RAM under the keyboard? Because that would mean the RAM doesn't get added on, just doubled...? I'm looking to add 2 modules of 2GB each. Are they the biggest amount of RAM you can add to this type of laptop?
probably not a good idea to have more than 2GB of RAM if you have an inspiron 630m as it can only handle a maximum of 2GB. Any more will prob not do you any good.
i checked and it says the dell 1520 can have the maximum of 4gig of ram soo i think u could either have 2 slot with 4 gigs OR 2 slots with 2 gigs each if thats wat ur asking o.o

Thank you for this video. I've upgraded many desktop PCs as well as my macbook, but was completely lost when it came to my girlfriend's Inspiron 1521. Using this vid I was able to complete the upgrade in the matter of 5 minutes! Cheers!
What happens when your memory installed in greater than the memory available?
I had 2 1gb's installed and swapped one out for a 2gb and upon turning on it told me that I had 3072 (forgot the number) but only have 3070 available. Would it be bad to continue?
This video helped me out tremendously. I have the Dell XPS M140 so I had to unscrew 2 screws located where the battery is located to get the power button cover off. That was the major difference. Other than that everything else applied to my model perfectly.
Warning to owners of the XPS M140! Unscrew the 2 screws right where the battery is located before you pop off the power button cover. If you don't you'll break it!
Cosair, thanks to your video, this was a breeze! The keyboard part was just as you said! Couldn't have done it without you! Thank you! I had to go in twice; make sure the RAM is seated correctly, all the way in, just as AnotherDaysAnomaly stated! It booted so much ore quickly! (Now I wished I'd put 4Gigs in! :)
Many, many thanks the Dell website was of no use and the pamphlet that came with the ememory card was useless - Dell should use your clip with a hyperlink
Thanks I really needed that. Dell just sent me the memory sticks but no instructions. I think they thought I knew what I was doing. So your vid was a big help. I gave you five stars by the way.
thanks too nice demo. i have prob on my inspiron 1520. during installtion of windows its suddenly shut down and i can't power on immediately. i will wait around 30-60 mins before it opens. and then it will shut down again. do you have any idea on why and how to repair? hope you will reply... thanks in advance
i think is the baterry. or the baterry is OLD. or is not install corect. i think is something aboout AC power and the batery. it can be the laptop. but i think is a problem with baterry or AC POWER . try to leave the laptop in AC power about 1 day.
I am installing 2 1gb's in my new 1521 can I replace on of them in the future with a 2 gb so it can be 3gb's? or does it have to be the same for both? Thanks
thanks, I raised it to 4 just to make it even but it only reads 3.5-3.7 (32bit) For some reason this laptop has little in it but the CPU rockets form 1% straight to 100% ....idk..
i have a dell inspiron 1525 and would like to upgrade 2gb. i was on the new egg website and only found and upgrade for the dell 1520. will the 2gb from the 1520 work on the 1525 model?
will a PNY Optima 4GB (2 x 2GB) 200-Pin DDR2 SO-DIMM DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) Dual Channel Kit Laptop Memory Model MN4096KD2-667 - Retail work for the inspiron 1525 with the intel core 2 duo processor 667 MHz
And also do you need to do this before you turn on your laptop? will i lose anything that i have save on my laptop alread, including my operating system.
No offense friend, but if you don't know the answer to this question you really shouldn't be replacing ram yourself. Take it to a shop or get someone else to do it.
Just wondering... I recently upgraded my HP laptop with more memory, with the help of a grad student working at my college's bookstore. I did the upgrade myself. He told me I didn't have to remove the battery, but, looking at all the memory upgrades online, I chose to remove it anyway. It is best to remove the battery first, isn't it?
A wonderful resource. This video, in tandem with the owner's manual (which merely repeats the instructions provided here) helped me upgrade my Inspiron 1521 with 4GB of memory in only minutes. Great aid.
just did this on my laptop. It is a Dell Ispiron E1405 and has no screws that hold down the keyboard. Makes it easier to take apart but harder to get put back in the right place.
No, upgrading with aftermarket RAM that meets the orginal manufacturer's specifciations will not void warranty. All parts that will void warranty will have a seal/label on it warning you.
thanx for that video. i had bought some ram for my 1521 but i didn't understand why there was only 1 ram slot! the removal of my keyboard was easier than i expected.
yea i know. i didnt know about the one right under the keyboard and until i found this video i was stumped because i could not find the second ram slot.
thank you for posting this tutorial, i was confounded when i bought 2 cards and opened up the bottom to see only one slot. cheers again.

Pauland7788 3 years ago
Thanks I really needed that. Dell just sent me the memory sticks but no instructions. I think they thought I knew what I was doing. So your vid was a big help. I gave you five stars by the way.

So under the keyboard is the primary memory slot or they are equivalent?
If I juste want to replace 1 memory RAM, should I take it under the keyboard or under the laptop or anywhere is same thing?

i think is the baterry. or the baterry is OLD. or is not install corect. i think is something aboout AC power and the batery. it can be the laptop. but i think is a problem with baterry or AC POWER . try to leave the laptop in AC power about 1 day.

I am installing 2 1gb's in my new 1521 can I replace on of them in the future with a 2 gb so it can be 3gb's? or does it have to be the same for both? Thanks
hluiscp 4 years ago
It doesn't matter. ^.^
Technoguy3 3 years ago
thanks, I raised it to 4 just to make it even but it only reads 3.5-3.7 (32bit) For some reason this laptop has little in it but the CPU rockets form 1% straight to 100% ....idk..

i have a dell inspiron 1525 and would like to upgrade 2gb. i was on the new egg website and only found and upgrade for the dell 1520. will the 2gb from the 1520 work on the 1525 model?
starbury203 4 years ago
Yes, and it will much easier b/c both memory sticks are located underneath the laptop... You don't have to remove your keyboard
hcpcrew 4 years ago
will a PNY Optima 4GB (2 x 2GB) 200-Pin DDR2 SO-DIMM DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) Dual Channel Kit Laptop Memory Model MN4096KD2-667 - Retail work for the inspiron 1525 with the intel core 2 duo processor 667 MHz

Great aid.
thenudge 4 years ago
just did this on my laptop. It is a Dell Ispiron E1405 and has no screws that hold down the keyboard. Makes it easier to take apart but harder to get put back in the right place.

I just did this upgrade, and it is great!

if you upgrade the memory does this mean you'll void your warranty?
paulytby 4 years ago
if u buy your ram from your computer company ie dell, hp,it will not void ur waranty
wywern209 4 years ago
No, upgrading with aftermarket RAM that meets the orginal manufacturer's specifciations will not void warranty. All parts that will void warranty will have a seal/label on it warning you.

thanx for that video. i had bought some ram for my 1521 but i didn't understand why there was only 1 ram slot! the removal of my keyboard was easier than i expected.
THEMIZKID 4 years ago
there is one where the keyboard is and one on the bottom of the laptop
wywern209 4 years ago
yea i know. i didnt know about the one right under the keyboard and until i found this video i was stumped because i could not find the second ram slot.
