Actually this here is a milestone in the RTS. For example it's the first RTS where each different unit speaks. Not to mention the great ballance between the (here - two) races, which Blizzard got famous for (one of many things of course ;)).

War2 was da shit, i remember playing it back in the day. It was so the wc3 back then with great music, unit (blood elves, dark knights n such), nice, balanced and simple races. Even little things when you click a sheep to many times it would pop/explode. I loved it, even it's editor was amazing for its time and my fav bnet custom game on it was lighting archers, oh! and they also had human archer units!

Because the two races have different spells, there is room for "some" strategy. I find humans are a better early-mid game race because of the Cleric's healing ability. I find Orcs are a better race closer to the endgame because of Unholy Armor and Summon Demon. THAT is a vicious combination if used right.

The bgm really sounds like a 8-bit synth that came out of computer back in 1991, but that is Dosbox for you, not the player's fault. With a more modern soundcard, the bgm sounds way better

With all respect to this game I have to say it was screwed up a little bit. No offense though... maybe it was rushed to completion but it seems some pieces just wasnt taken into details. For example gold mining - peasants carry gold from the nearest mine, and then BOOM mine is gone and only thing you can do is to send them to more distant mine because you can only rebuild your Town Hall on the same place. Summoned unit as the hardest is a nice change but if you take it pragmatically, you will se

If you take a detailed look on mentioned gold mine problem, you will also see that sending Peasants into distant mine will result in decreased income flow, which comes in mid-game, which is just the time you need most money for the upgrades & new units & new buildings. I|m sazing again: no offence against this title but you cannot argue with the age of the game because Dune 2 was released 2 years before and it has much better system of income

- at the start you harvest only with the harvesters but from the closest spice fields, then when these fields are gone you harvest from the more distant fields but this time with the carryals as the game flows and you get better things. no overpowered units - devastator was very expensive, maybe sonic tank but it had very weak armor...) not gonna write down al things D2 had but it's a reaction on how some people here praised this as a excellent game without drawbacks ...

I'm not saying this to undermine the value that warcraft 1 presented to the gaming world, nor how much fun it was when it was out.

When i played it when i was little, I had so much fun with it, that during my off-gametime I made a complete recreation of all the units with arts and crafts!

as a warcraft 3 player for like 2 years on and off, i would say its very balanced. maybe you just lack the skill to play that game. i can play on random race and still pwn. you just have to know the different strategies of the game and there is anti units for everything. startegy games must not be your thing. wc2 has no startegy at all compare to wc3

Secondly in most rts games you must know different strategies to be a competent player even though in some it does just come down to a spam. There are many better rts then wc3 red alert 3, starcraft, and company of heroes to name a few.

problem is, heroes reverse rushes. rushes doom most players but heroes have spells and abilities that could delay a total overrun

and wc3 was NOT a pile of shit. the stuff is easier to play and it allows younger warcraft players to get in the mix. red alert 3 is good and so is company of heroes, but starcraft is just a futuristic version of wc, really. plus all those games have rushes that could ruin a decently built base

i agree that wc2>wc3 but all blizzard rts have had some random chance.wc2 for example attacks were not constant like in starcraft , they did a random amount of damage (say from 8-12).In starcraft there was randomness in shooting up terrain.
