  • The city of Knoxville imploded the U.S. Pavilion in 1990 or 1991. Biggest waste I've ever seen. Then later built a multi-million dollar exhibition hall that sits empty.

  • the video played perfectly fine for me

thanks for uploading. I don't remember the fair when it happened but I love that SunSphere. It looks so cool. It's a signature building to Knoxville in the same way the Calgary Tower is a signature building in my city

    cheers

  • Funny if you listen to the background music its the theme to mission impossible .

I drove down to the fair as I lived in louisville ky at the time . I was 20 at the time but they let drink at all the places I wish I still had the betamax tape I took at the time .

Shortly after I went I the NAVY for 7 years on submarines I talked to a recruiter down there and he was a submarine e6 at the time .

  • Check out the Knoxville World's Fair story at "Bob Austin, PM Magazine" on Youtube. The story is labeled. 1982 World's Fair. A good look at the way this thing got off the ground and was promoted.

  • Worlds flop.Lol

  • I was there as a kid with my scout troop, its neat to remember then and see things now... time has flown.

  • They need to make like a huge roller coaster for the World's Fair.

  • If you have footage of the Kabuki theater from this world's fair...could you please post? thanks

  • you were great as the narrator

  • i remember a pac man room with about a dozen new pac mans that you had to pay a buck to play

  • i was there when i was a small kid. But i don't really remember it that much. Is this the last world's fair they ever had?

  • Are there still "World Fairs" ? - what has been done with the surrounding ground ie the fair has obv gone so what replaced it?

  • @lwsmackie4 ...Nope hasent been one since..But sunsphere is still here and will always be..The rest gone over years of downtown growth...Come and see us...As Dolly Parton says....Yall come back now..Ya hear....

  • I still have my season pass

  • I was there twice. I don't remember the robot because the lines were too long to get in. But I remember the rides and the China pavillion and the Imax theatre.

  • LOL - this was featured in a episode of The Simpsons - The Sun Sphere - is it still there?

  • Sure I was just there a few days ago was even on the observation deck

  • i was there on sunday

  • I was there with my 1982 white socks pulled up to my knees....

  • i was born in 94 [its sucks i missed this] because i live now less than 40 miles from knoxville, i love it

  • Fuch yeah man, fuck yeah

  • umm...okay lol XD

  • Great job on cleaning up the video! Our own family's video is pretty shot ( was stored in an attic) so its great to see the fair again. We had so much fun when we went. Thanks for putting this up here.

  • I like the music! That's from the soundtrack of Mission Impossible! One of my favorites.

  • Looking forward to more priceless footage. Thanks for your efforts!!!!

  • Actually, it timed out at 2 hours and 40 minutes. There is a 30 minute show of Up With People, about an hour of the Philippines show and 30 minutes of an orchestra. I also have video of the China exhibit (that's really neat) and highlights of other pavilions. I'll upload some of that material after I get a chance to clean up the video. Being such old technology, a lot of the video is dark. Luckily today's programs can really enhance the overall picture.

  • Nice work. Was there really three hours of this?
