You never want to pick SD over MiniDV,

SD is compressed to fit on such a small card, whereas MiniDV is just raw uncompressed video.

You cannot record onto an SD card with this camera.

Im so confused for this camcorders i bought sony DCR-SR45 but it is the same price as this canon ZR950 but the sony has a 30 gb HDD and this uses mini DV and memory card but i want to know which one has better quality (also for night).

can you re record over the tapes? and is there a way to get the video onto the pc if i dont have a firewire port on my pc because i do not think i have 1. all of my pci slots are full. so i cant use a firewire card. i have plenty of usb ports though

Yes, you can record over tapes. And no, I am pretty sure you can get video to your computer any other way than firewire. you may want to check around, because I am not 100% sure about that.

if you have a firewire port, us a firewire cable with a dv connection on it to plug it into your computer. with vista, an importer option should come directly up.

I have one question. Do you needa miniDV tape to inport your videos to your computer? Or can I just plug in the FireWire wihtout using a tape.

If you record stuff away from your computer, then yes, you will need the dv tape and a firewire cable to import it. If you record straight to your computer, all you need is the firewire cable.

i dont get what those DV tapes are. I wanna get this camera but would i be able to upload the videos to my computer with like a USB or whatever. i got a mac

if you know what like a video tape is, a dv tape is just a smaller version of that. You have to have a dv cable (firewire) to get movies to your computer. if you have a mac, you should be good to go with firewire

I am not sure if you learned the camcorder yet, but the quick start is a quick start to record while you are using it in your palm.. I have the zr850, same type but yours is better but I to love my cam
