Argg my pet hate of all this is the endless over priced minis spawning out of Dark reign, for the next mini Dark Reign: Brian Bendis featuring Joe Quesada
Ah Morrissey the grim reaper of pop (id like Andy Diggle and Aaron to write it and Chris Weston on art, he draws a good chin).
Im starting to get tired of this Dark business as well, I like the over all idea of Norman being in charge (I loved Warren Ellis on thunderbolts and his Osborn). Its just a shame marvel doesnt really seem to understand subtlety, I think we will have it crammed down our throats until we hate it.
I would actually pay $3,99 for that book and not complain about the price. It would be totally worth it! Let's get Matt Fraction or Jason Aaron on this.
Incidentally CCW, I hope one of your upcoming vids will elaborate on the nugget of contemn you guys teased for the Dark X-Men. There's been speculation that they might be the result of the upcoming X-Men and DA cross over happening in either June or July. I think the DXM may be an interesting follow-up, but you guys clearly disagree. I, and I'm sure many others, would love to know why.
Invincible Iron Man is my fav book right now by a mile. Love where the Iron Woman thing is going. Loved the Iron Man and Namor battle. No wonder this book is nominated for Best New Series!
You called it on the Captain America art, Marcos Martin comes from the spanish tradition of art rendering whether it be Martin, Carlos Pacheco, Jordi Bernet, Carlos Ezquerra, Jesus Redondo....all guys who are faithful to the story.
I think a lot of american artists are more concerned with getting Wizard covers or selling original art splash pages for $5k+ rather than telling a good story.
There used to be two kinds of american artists, the "cartoonists" like Kirby, Ditko, Bob Kane, Curt Swan leading up to Byrne, Perez and walt simonson and you had the "realistic" type artists like Eisner, Milt Caniff, Alex Toth leading up to Neal Adams. A lot of the foreign artists were inspired by these guys too
Then in the 90's you had the aberration of "artists" like Mcfarlane, Liefield, Jim Lee who made things awful for a while, now art is finally getting to being good with guys like Martin
Both of those artists are really good....Aja is spanish and Casselli is italian...a lot of the best talent in comics is from these countries....a fact that dosen't surprise me but I wonder does anyone else ask why theres so much foreign talent at Marvel and DC now?
Daniel Acuna is another up and coming artist, I was probably the only person reading the Eternals series but his art on that was great.
Just finished catching up on past episodes (been MIA from the interweb) and this season of CCW is finger licking good. Can't believe I miss out on the epic DC discussion meltdown.
Just read the Rucka interview on Newsarama and what he says in it sums up DC's problem, he said and I qoute "Geoff gave me Nightwing & Flamebird with the intention of NW being Chris Kent aged with no set reason and that I should figure it out"
They just make stuff up as they go along without a solid plan of attack.
I tend to judge my comics on a monthly basis rather than a weekly basis and over the last month its been GLC, World of New Krypton, Action and Superman, The Outsiders and The Mighty that have been very good for DC imo.
Elliot, you don't like Bucky as Cap? Talk about men of different generations, huh? I'm mainly enjoying Cap presently for the very reason that Bucky is Cap. Now, that's not to say I dislike Steve, but similarly to how you feel about the title after Steves departure is how I'd feel were Bucky to leave the title. As consistently engrossing as Catain America has been, I'm truly surprised to hear you haven't been enjoying it. Jose, do you share Elliots feelings about the Captain America?
At first I thought it was a huge fucking mistake bringing Bucky back but after reading the Winter Soldier storyline I changed my mind a bit. Bucky being Cap is for the most part is interesting (except in the New Avengers where he kinda sucks). The stories have been good but I know at some point (soon?) Steve will be back.
What do you think will happen to Bucky when that happens?
When, or preferably IF, (as I like to keep hope that Marvel has at least some modicome intergity and will keep him dead for years to come) Steve makes his unwelcome return Bucky will more than likely relinquish the tights and shielf back to him and return to being the Winter Soldier. Marvel's plagued Bucky with so many hang-ups about carrying on Steve's legacy he'd probably be relieved to give it up. That'd be a sad event for me, though, for then I'd have to drop one of my favorit titles. *sigh*
Iron Man for me has been okay at best. Its not as amazing as CCW proclaims, IMO. Its just been, you know, one of those monthlies one gets because its consistent but doesn't necessarily mind-blowing. Too bad for me. Perhaps if I hadn't been spoiled by the peerless awesomeness that is Bru's DD I'd hold Iron Man in as high praise as you all seem to.
I think I know what the black captain America suit is all about:
Because namor is the one that hid Cap body he know where it is, and now he is part of the Cabal so what I think is going to happend is that Norman is going to tell Namor to bring him Cap body and them he is going to resuscitate Cap but make him evil like most likely he is going to do with the new Rhodey body that he stole, and then the real Dark Avengers are going to raise! Rhodey as Iron Man Cap as Cap Bulleyes, and so others.
glad to see my favorite hero cap getting some love marcus martin is top notch his batgirl year 1 was perfect

So...I'm deadly curious. Thoughts on the latest Ms. Marvel? Does this reinforce or detract from your stance on marvel's treatment of women?
Or does it all just even out?

Is that Morrissey singing in the background? Maybe Marvel could do a Dark Morrissey book.

I think this whole dark thing is already getting overplayed...Osborn is in nearly every comic already.
The "Dark" thing could get almost as tiresome as "grim and gritty" did in the 90's. How long till we have a Dark Speedball and Dark Darkhawk? :p

Couldn't agree more, although Todd had his charms as an artist.
I'm really impressed with David Aja and Stephano Casseli right now, those cats get better & better each project.

To offer a counterpoint of sorts, I will throw out what DC's top 5 books were last week.
5.Teen Titans Annual #1
4. Trinity #44
3. Flash: Rebirth #1
2. JSA #25
1. Battle For The Cowl: Man-Bat (why? cause it's fucking Man-Bat!!!!)
johnnyhorror92182 2 years ago
JSA #25 gets an honorable mention in our next video I believe. That comic is easily one of DC's top books to me.
If Flash: Rebirth is in DC's top 3 comics for last week that's all you need to know as to why they are kinda sucking lately.
