I read the comments before watching the video and thought it was going to be nothing like it was. Of course. I was flabbergasted that *that* was the so-called sweep. Of course. If Dutcher had pretended to go for a footlock it wouldn't have cost him points.
Its obviously not a sweep. You're all just trying to find ways to justify nonsense in an Emperor's New Clothes kind of way.
From standing, you'd have to hold a leg. It's to stop the denial of single leg takedowns by pulling guard.
@frostedkittenz The question I am looking at is not id Nolan was submitted, but if Ryan earned those two points. He did not.
Further, knowing the reffing is shit and slanted towards your opponent has to do something to your mindset. Not saying Nolan might have pulled it out anyway, but he may have kept calmer and won.
That was a beautiful set up from the flower sweep, to transition in to the triangle. Then waiting for him to stand, to grab the ankle and get the 90 degree turn and use your squat muscles for the choke. Ryan is thinking many moves ahead. That is high level jiu jitsu. Very nice! :)
@ghpink Agreed. As soon as he posted his hand out there, Ryan knew exactly what to do. I'm thinking that's just a result of countless hours on the mat. On an unrelated note, Nolan Dutcher gets minus 100 points for the ugliest tattoo ever in grappler's quest.
i dont see how anyone can agree with that call. the was not a sweep. hall must use he's legs to move his opponent in order for it to be considered a sweep. that didnt happen. ducther pulled guard properly pulled guard by controlling part of halls body (his left hand) before seating down. ducther pulling guard because he couldnt pass hass's guard is kinda lame but not a sweep. but thats just my take on it. let the debate continue
@kijafa2003 It was absolutely sweep points. If your opponent is sitting in open guard and you sit down while making contact, and they come up to a knee or stand up, then it's sweep points for them. Nolan should've paid attention at the rules meeting. It was an amateur mistake. Obviously he got subbed so it didn't matter, but yea. Ryan knew he'd get an easy 2 pts by going to a knee as soon as Nolan sat and touched Ryan's left hand. That's definitely considered a sweep by the rules.
humble white belt called it best if your in guard and you get to the top position its a sweep even if the guy decides just to lay down but my problem is with people wearing no shirts thats why i compete more gi i don't want noone rolling with me with no shirt on
@tearlynj yeah exactly. its like if you pull guard from both fighters standing but your opponent has a grip on your leg or gi pants. he will get sweep points.
of course its a sweep, ryan pulled guard and was on the bottom and they other guy decideed to pull gaurd after, ryan went from the bottom to the top lol funny
The reasons its considered a sweep is because ur choosing to stall or make ur opponent Not play guard because u can't get passed his, but ur doing it passively rather then aggression, Honestly itf u were playing guard, and someone does that to u, u might understand, because its basically like Them deciding to not engage u, and them expecting to attack u, its odd but it does make sense, but 2 points is a lot to give, maybe an advantage point would make more sense
No, 702decatur, they shouldn't....If U Take someone down, u should be planning on passing they're guard, half guard, and finishing....sooo the 2 Points shouldn't make much of a difference...Many Many "takedown artists" liek to spend almost three minutes engaging and disengaging clinches until they shoot and then stalling from the opponents guard until they can win off points....Also playing guard is much harder then a top game so no need to complain
I agree 100% RipPac. I tought i was the only he thought that way. And I play the top 95% of the time just putting it out there so its clear there's bias.
thanks man, and ive been taught by Nolan Dutcher a few times, we talked, my coach trains with him all the time and occasionally he drops in so its nothing personal
na it was a legit sweep because ryan was on bottom with the other guy not past his guard, ryan trransitioned to the top with the other guy on the bottom
(although the guy did it on his own accord). Basically , if the guy on bottom has any type of guard in place, and comes to the top, he gets two points
its written that way in CBJJ rules. Should the ref not award points despite them being firmly stated and instead rely on his own discretion? No. Thats not fair. People would start arguing they werent swept, they chose to take the bottom position every time they were scored against. If you don't understand the rules, dont compete, and definitely dont have the nerve to argue about it.

The spray painted #2 is CLASSIC - funny story, our AMAZING sponsor Zebra had a company print custom table wraps and they printed everyone with a #1, all 12 of them! My father went to Home Depot and bought 6 cans of quick dry paint (BLACK) and 4 cans of white...we were OLD SCHOOL back in the day!
the rules need a serious revision- this is grappling, not a sitting down contest

lmao you can tell those 2 points pissed off Nolan so much - "WHAT?!"

"Controlling" the wrist is not alone for a takedown. Did the ref think Ryan pulled off an awesome bit of Aikido on him?
If he did, why couldn't Dutcher have bee going for a flying wrist lock?!

Its not a sweep unless you initiate it.
Just like if you shoot for a take down and end up in turtle you were not taken down because your opponent did not initiate the 'take down'.
TheScamr 10 months ago
@TheScamr idt any of that matters if you get submitted.

Well if they are going to do that then they should give penalties to guard floppers for running away from the takedown game.
