Awesome show,... my favorite of the Force Five lineup!
I used to watch this in high school in Boston in the early 80s. I used to think Jesse Dart was sooooo cool,... who didn't want one of those astro-bats.
holy fuk !!! i watched this cartoon when i was like 2-3 years old. It had such a profound effect on development of my personality. its like past life regression
Does anyone know where can i get the full episodes?
Aurora must be a creation of Leiji Matsumoto. He had a predilection for tall leggy white women with extremely long blonde. Think of Queen Starsha and Trelana from StarBlazers. They are classic Matsumoto.
I remember renting this on video. Had to wait 6 months because it was only on Beta at first (all the cool cartoons were on Beta first I remember, but after the fact I'm glad I didn't get one). I
I rented one that had a couple episodes and one that had a whole story but had pieces cut out to make it a movie.
Anyone remember little robots that had a voice like Peter Lorie?
his character kinda resembles the monkey king in a japanese tv adaptation of the novel. That symbol on his head was what the monkey king wore on his head
You know th eonly time i found out about this show was when it was on video. it never showed in philly. or any o fthe force five stuff. We got starblazers though.
Golden age of TV cartoons: Danguard Ace, MGM Tom & Jerry, WB, Hanna Barbara, Gai King Starblazers, Spacekeeteers, Banana Splits... That is when life was pure. Makes me want to grab a bowl of fruity peebles.
Over here in the UK. They made a movie out of it. I remember it being my fave thing. Just becouse of the awesome line "Come on, Astrooooobat!" :D Hehe. I love this. ^_^
Aww, I miss watching this on Fox25 Boston, around 1981-86. Force Five was the shit. Anyone got the Spaceketeers outro.. that part is so sad, when they all cry at the ending, I like the English version.. the Japanese version has annoying singing added to it. Can someone please post the outro? lol :)
I grew up on this.. Jeez .. It nice to take a trip down memory lane ... and yes the Princess is hot - except for the wining .. Let Jesse take out some space mutants.
I found this retro anime a few years ago. Did Jesse Dart really need to be under the contol of the princess with that crown. Is she worth the headhaces??? lol
The headband is part of the story. The series, called Starzinger in Japan, was a space opera retelling of the Monkey King legend. Aurora is the priest, Dart is the Monkey King, Porkos is the Pig, and Aramis is the Water Monk. In the legend, the Monkey King has a headband that keeps him under control of the priest.
This is the coolest sci-fi tv theme next to Gerry Anderson's UFO theme. I've got all the Force Five themes on iTunes and it's pretty fun when they show up on shuffle
They weren't actually androids, they Jesse was blasted with some atomic power enhancer (like Wolverine) so he could have the power of a hundred men. The fat guy was the lone defender of his mud planet, he mastered drilling through any kind of rock. The thin guy is from the water planet, the most intelligent among the three, he works well with any kind of liquid. FYI.
Actually Jesse Dart was the only android (half android actually). The others were just good at what they did from where they came from and joined along the way. Jesse was picked because he passed all the tests and made him half human/half Android. Thanks for the comment!!!
In latinamerica they showed it back in the 80s but named "El Galactico" (The Galactic) as part of a show pack called "Festival de los Robots" (Robot Festival)
I remember this on Force Five on channel 25 in Boston. I love the ending theme, could you post that please or send it to my e-mail. It seems like they're crying at the end or thinking of something. I don't know who was more annoying Jesse Dart saying "Jesse Dart" or Orion Quest saying "Grandizer Go" or "Spin Drill". Classic, I love Force Five. Thanks for posting.
This was another instance where the production company took certain episodes and made them into one hard to follow movie. It aired on Showtime in the early 80's as part of their Carousel time shows. I still have the entire movie on VHS when my father had a black box for the cable way back when.
For me it was part of the "Force Five" series that played on TV on a regular channel. It played on Wednesdays weekly and I had to watch some of the other cartoons (Gaiking, Danguard Ace, and another show). It was great and I was sad when they ended as I loved Jesse Dart. I put together my own Astro Bat but all I could do was beat up my brothers....no growing or firing beams from it!!! LOL
Hahaa..LOL, WHen Jesse Dart said "Astrobat" and Orion Quest said "Grandizer Go, Spin Saucer, or Hand Beams" was the most annoying, yet funny sayings from cartoons back then.. but those guys still rule. LOL
This didnt come on TV in the UK, but it was on video, oddly enough with pictures of the transformers on the back and it was called sci-bots over here in the UK. Jesse Dart was THE MAN A S T R O - B A T ! ! !
I wish I knew that, I found this on retrojunk.com. Maybe there might be a CD of old children's cartoons but I'm not sure if this would make it to the list. It was hard to find this clip!!!!
I grew up in Boston and it was on Channel 25 I believe but I could be wrong. This was my favorite of the series. Thanks for the comment!! Take care and have a great day.
I first saw this intro on a OLD Gumby VHS...

Once I read "Monkey", loved it even more.

@adon78 at least once you knew about Monkey, it made more sense why Jesse Dart had a staff!

The instrumental is kicking ass. The guitar, organ and trumpet is a good combo in this theme song. I would like to know who put this together.
