  • kendra is not the best glinda for me i think suzie is

  • OK, yes idina was pretty good, but i still don't think that her vocals are the best I've heard. On the other hand Kerry Ellis has a rare talent and her voice stands out a mile, especially on the big notes. the diction and articulation of her voice is also perfect. Kerry #ThebestElphaba

  • Idina was definitely the truest to character since the role was created specifically for her based on her vocal range. That's what "originating" means. Yes there have been a great many of other Elphaba's who may or may not have had better voices, but I don't think anyone will ever be better at "acting" the part. Idina has always been an amazing actress.

  • hah listen guys its not really about who can sing better. theyre all amazing otherwise they wouldnt have gotten the role. i guess its all about personal preference. i personally love the tone of Kerr's voice it has this husky honey like quality, but others prefer the way say Idina Menzel sang it

  • umm she sounds like shes singing through her nose =/ more research....

  • Lip syncing problems much

  • @SivD1 haha thats the video mate

  • I think Kerry Ellis is more relaxed when she sings, compared to all the other Elphabas..

  • Kerry rulez

  • I have a wicked calendar and I love Keery's picture in it. She looks so beautiful. It's no fair how some peope look absolutely when they're green. ;)

  • where as kerry and eden are my favorite with idina close behind what u have to understand is if they werent good they wouldnt be there. Idina had athsma if that doesnt say shes amazing i dont know whatdoes

  • did kerry ever do broadway'? i thought she was only on the west end.. and i thought kendra was on broadway.....someone help

  • Kerry is one of my favorite Elphabas, vocally. I only wish they hadn't been so strict about her having an American accent on Broadway.

  • Hahahaha Kendra GAVE her hand to the men coming into take her away..

  • Mmm not my favorite. I feel like she's imitating Kristen Chenoweth's voice.

  • Wow... She has no upper lip... Anyway, she's aiight but no where as good as Tucker... She's not pacing herself; going way to fast.

  • @YouLaToya she is going as fast as the conductor makes her go,she can only go with the tempo he is giving to the orchestra

  • This performance just isn't very good. I've heard much better. I think Rachael Hunter is far better. Idina is by far the best actress.

  • @HotBaby1515 In the book glinda is described as having no imperfections therefore the writer of the musical wanted glinda to have a crisp perfect high toned voice. He also wanted Elphaba to have quite and edgy powerful voice as that matched her character. So your wrong.

  • Fucking strained her voice my fucking ass. Someone said she strained her voice first performance but I think that's bullshit. Not as awe inspiring as Rachel or Eden but very VERY well done.

  • Why is the sound so much behind the video?

  • Kerry was so much better on the West End than she was on Broadway because in NY they made her put on that stupid American accent >.<

West End and English accents ftw!!

  • @red99balloons Ya know, being an American myself! I think she should have kept her English accent! I have no problem with in fact I love that there is a British Elphaba! Probably one of the only mistakes Broadway made besides putting Hasselhoff in Jekyll and Hyde was making her do an Ameriacn accent! Both not right!

  • Oh my god .. Kerry ROCKS!!! I get goose bumps everytime when I hear her singing!

  • I saw Kerry Ellis and Dianne Pilkington perform in Wicked in 2009.... it was AMAZING!

  • @HotBaby1515 They meant that the part of Glinda in this musical is generally in the soprano voice range. I guess this one doesn't sound like a soprano to them or something?

  • Rachel IS the BEST Elphaba. NO ONE can change that. Best voice, looks EVERYTHING.

  • Kendra and Kerry i would like to see. Their number 2 after Idina and Kristin :( but now they not on it anyway

  • I've seen wicked a couple of times now, and I've seen a different Elphaba each time and I don;t care what anyone says, KERRY is the best ever! Live she has the best voice, she has the most amazing eyes causing her performance to blow people away. Now with Idina, I liked her, but she didnt blow me away that much. Sorry I know it's different people's opinions. The other thing i cant stand is why everyone says Elphaba is her. When there are so many more people who have playd the role!!

  • @scmas11 people say idina IS elphaba because she played the role the best.

  • @jollygiantman well yeah I got that but it's like she isnt the only one who's "amazing" as her. hehe

  • i think its still idina

  • she is good but i favor idina menzel, she was perfect or the role

  • @jollygiantman For me everyone else are amazing actresses, vocally stronger, playing the role of Elpheba. But Idina? She is Elpheba.

  • @pilchard96 Idina Is the only person who could ever play Elphaba perfectly.

  • @jollygiantman I disagree with that - IMO Rachel Tucker is perfect for the role of Elpheba, but Idina IS Elpheba.

  • I don't understand why people come on these videos to rain on Kerry's parade.... yeah everyone has their point of view but can you take your negative comments somewhere else please? If you really love Idina and Kristin so much go watch videos with them in.....

  • I have to be honest, I was at Kerry's first official night as Elphaba on the West End, and words CANNOT express how amazing she sounded. Waayyyyy better than this.

  • my three favourite elphabas- Idina Menzel, Eden and Kerry.

  • IDINA IS THE ONLY ELPHABA <3

  • Clearly Idina isnt the only elphaba considering there have been atleast 200 other elphabas over the entire world. Yes she opened the Broadway Production and the West end but thats pretty much it. Stephanie J Block was involved in Wicked long before Idina was. Kerry and Eden were the original Standbys and over the years performed fiercer and most of the time better performances than Idina, Just because someone originated a role doesnt make them the best, thats just stupid.

  • @MattManOhYeah Finally! Somebody who makes sense!

  • @MattManOhYeah Best when it comes to acting and singing is just a matter of opinion. Nothing else, no stupidity required.

  • @kingofthecities yeah, i personally think all elphaba's are amazing on some level. Some arent my favourites but it doesnt mean i bash them because they arent on a soundtrack. Just some people have no respect for such talent so go around being rude.

  • @MattManOhYeah Unless Idina is the best.......which she is.

  • @epacmo1807 Says who and why? Yeah she was the original and she is incredible that doesnt make her the best. That makes her peoples favourite. Most people will say she is the best because she is their favourite, not because she is actually the best.

  • @MattManOhYeah I will admit, she's my favorite. But I also believe that her performance cannot be topped. She brought a side and personality to Elphaba no one has been able to match. Her acting and voice are both incredible. She made Elphaba who she is today. The other actors who played this role worked with what SHE gave them. There are many shows where I believe the original star was NOT the best, but this case just wasn't one of them. Kerry is incredible, but I love Idina Menzel, hands down.

  • @epacmo1807 I think Idina is incredible, but also incredibly different from anyone else. Every elphaba is so different from the previous. I just think there are no comparisons because there is nothing to compare. Every elphaba brought different ideas and characteristics as did all the glindas. My favourite is Marcie Dodd but i would never say "Marcie is better than Teal" or anything because they are so different, if you get what i mean? It just annoys when people bash other elphabas :/

  • @MattManOhYeah Yeah, I know where you're coming from. I never bash the others, and I think that most of the time that people think we ARE bashing the others is because we say that Idina is the best. I still believe she is, but that's just my opinion. And, of course, you're entitled to your own, as is everyone else.

  • @epacmo1807 Yeah i totally get you but i think "favourite" is better. Because Teal won that competetion saying she was the best n i think she won it because she was most peoples favourite. And i get what you mean about her originating the roll but what about SJB, Marcie Dodd, Ana Gasteyer, Amanda Harrison and Wilemijn Verkaik. They all originated productions, only most didnt get a cast recording (which totally sucks :P) If you get me? :)

  • @MattManOhYeah Like I said, I'm entitled to my own opinion. You saying Teal is the best is just like me saying Idina is the best: it's an opinion. If you Google "Who is the best Elphaba?", Google themselves give you the name Idina Menzel because the majority of the people who answered that question chose her. I'm not saying my opinion is factual in all cases, and I'm not trying to change anyone else's. But she will always be my favorite AND the best in my eyes. :)

  • @epacmo1807 Personally i wouldnt say Teal is the best. I wouldnt even say Marcie is the best even though she is my favourite. Most people who say Idina is the best generally only know her from the soundtrack and not heard many other elphabas, so its like they are judging the other elphabas because they werent Idina, kind of. Thats really what i meant by all that. I just dont think anyone can say so and so is better than so and so without hearing all the elphabas :)

I just dont think anyone can say so and so is better than everyone else without hearing all the elphabas :)

  • @MattManOhYeah I agree with your last statement. However, referring to the soundtrack point, I don't think the "best" Elphaba should be determined on vocals alone. I will admit, there were times Idina sounded less than perfect, but she's human. Her performances were always organic and the occasional imperfections in her vocals allowed her to better connect to Elphaba, who IS less than perfect; her acting and believability were unsurmountable. You have to consider all of these factors to judge :)

  • @epacmo1807 Yeah i totally agree on that. Idinas acting was always perfect. Her voice was often not the best but she always gave an incredible performance and had an amazing stage presence. But when you cant see them all live its hard to judge, because even though ive heard some terrible recordings of Idina where she usually came off a little flat, ive also heard some fantastic recordings that were so good :)

  • @MattManOhYeah Yeah, I completely agree 100%. All of them would have to be seen live in order to judge appropriately.

  • @MattManOhYeah Exactly. Do they think that the first person to play Hamlet was the best? Unlikely.

  • @wigster1978 I know! and if you listen to other OBC soundtracks they usually arent good at all, its just that Wickeds is awesome, therefore it must be down to Idina and Kristen. Plus ALOT of people still think they are the leads on Broadway when in actual fact they left after quite a short time

  • @MattManOhYeah In very few cases I would disagree with you. Wait.. only one case. Colm Wilkinson as Valjean. The only time I will ever think someone who originated the role will probably be the best at it. :D

  • I do love Kerry but I've heard her do SO many better Defying Gravity's then this...

  • i like these actors but kristin and idina are THE glinda (galinda) and elphaba

  • @H4nn4h12312 No they are not. Learn about diversity please.

  • I love Kerry :) She's so amazing. I saw on the west end a couple of years ago and was lucky enough to meet her! Her and idina are my idols! :D x

  • IDINA FTW!!

  • Kerry is amazing.. Rachel is better though :P

  • i had NO idea until recently that Kendra was in London too :O

    but it's coool.

  • @d0ggylover21 She wasn't, this was when Kerry was on Broadway.

  • @pilchard96 oh, ooops. KERRY WAS IN NY? whoaa. okay ty for letting me know~ wow. Idina was in Wicked London, Kerry was in Wicked broadway. huuuh.

  • @d0ggylover21 She went to NY, developed some nice vocal nodules, an annoyingly nasal American accent, and.... learned how to act, incredibly. Then came back to London to the delight of thousands of giggly teenage fangirls.

  • @pilchard96 She didn't have nodules; there was one Wikipedia article that said she did and that was it. She wouldn't have had a chance to rest if she did, and therefore would not have a voice today, as she was with 'Wicked' non-stop until May 2009, so if she developed the nodules on Broadway, her voice would have been fucked by the time she got back to London. She was just vocally tired - there's a difference.

  • @ScottGodfreyMusic1 I stand corrected - I admit I was only passing on read information.

  • @pilchard96 It wouldn't surprise me if someone playing the part did get nodules, because it's so bloody demanding - even someone with the best technique would get run down. I make you right about Kerry's accent; when I saw her post Broadway, she was still fantastic; however that accent was so off-putting and at some points she even sounded Irish!

  • @ScottGodfreyMusic1 It's gotta be one of the most demanding parts ever... I would be way up for all productions running the alternates scheme.... although rachel tucker has been belting it out for 15 months and still sounds amazing, so it's possible!

  • @pilchard96 Yeah, the alternate scheme would work very well I think! Yes, Rachel has done well not to do anything to the voice - I think it's just a matter of time though; her belts always sound quite squeaky to me, but hey it's all a matter of taste I guess!

  • @ScottGodfreyMusic1 Possibly - live I thought her voice was.... incredible (doesn't seem a strong enough word), and DG was the best 1:30 of my life.

  • Kerry Ellis and Idina Menzel are most definately the best elphaba's ever

  • great glinda

  • i absolutely love kerry :) i idolise her if i met her i think i'd cry :'( but in a good way :) i think she's the best elphaba by far :) i also think idina is brilliant too <3 kerry all the way for me though xxxx <3

  • @xxfayerocksxx I met her when she came to potters not too long ago, she truly was amazing!!

  • Her acting here is a lot better. I remember in one particular video, she looked totally and utterly bored.

  • @HotBaby1515 You couldn't be more right. Look at megan hilty

  • @HotBaby1515 Yeah I know! I think some people think that because the music is writen for a higher voice.

  • Rachel Tucker is the BEST.

  • Best Elphaba ever!!!

  • too nasal

  • @superboyblue she doesnt usually sound this nasal???!!! bad recording i say! usually shes amazing...

  • @OopsIDroppedTheMilk Maybe she had a cold, or it could be the record

  • @OopsIDroppedTheMilk that's why i added "too" because she is nasal. i've seen and heard her perform not just on wicked. she's amazing though, that i have to agree, but not the most amazing i've heard or seen.

  • ok, defiying greavity is better than the other songs of her, but willemijn verkaik IS THE ELPHABA ! I don`t like Kerry`s voice

  • She has a terrific voice and some great vacial expressions. My only comment is that she seems to rush through the song. If she slowed down a bit, this would be perfect.

  • kerry ellis was the best and is still the best elphaba!

  • @nstephenson19 kerri is amazing but in my opinion Idina has been the best elphaba ;)

  • @HotBaby1515 they mean high singing voice. you know, glinda's voice range is soprano.

  • @simzproductionz Yeah Kendra is an alto, and Kerry is a lyric-soprano.

  • I LOVE HER GROWL!!!!!!!! She sings this song sooo amazingly!!!!!!!

  • glindas supposed to have a high voice

  • i believe she does the short notes before the last final note so she can hold the last note more

  • i love kendra's elphiee! at 4:46

  • @OneShortDayInOz It was written for Menzel she was the first.

  • @lmandlh Glinda sings the alto part

  • She is trying to hard to have an American accent. I usually like her voice, but this sounds so nasal and monotone... Her acting is also not that amazing... :s Damn, what happened to her?

  • I saw Kendra play Glinda on broadway with Julia Murney as Elphie!! :)

  • @lmandlh When it comes to harmonies, Elphaba actually takes the higher parts and Glinda takes the lower parts. That's why Glinda doesn't sound like she has a higher voice. But trust me, Glinda has some pretty high parts too.

  • @yobsterrish But in defying gravity, Elphaba takes the lower notes in the harmonies. I know that in For Good she takes the higher ones though.

  • the part of elphaba was actualy origanly writen for kerry

  • Comment removed

  • i love Kerry's voice, i love kendra's voice and they're both amazing actresses, but for some reason i don't really like them together. ?

  • Although Kendra's voice isn't my favorite for the part I must say she is one of the most convincing actresses I've seen in the role! she is a terrific actress!

  • Kerry Ellis is a powerhouse. If Idina doesn't play Elphaba in the Wicked movie, then Kerry should be.

  • @Yahiko25

    couldn't agree more

although it would be better if they did a UK and US version off the movie....

  • She doesn't portray nearly as much as emotion when performing dialogue as Idina did, but she does have an amazing singing voice.

  • In terms of all around quality, here are my favorites: 1. Willemijn Verkaik 2. Stephanie J. Block 3. Kerry Ellis 4. Idina Menzel 5. Shoshana Bean 6. Nicole Parker 7. Eden Espinosa 8. Marcie Dodd 9. Donna Vivino 10. Alexia Khadime.
  • @simzproductionz and Imandlh

The Galinda/Glinda in this video is Kendra Kassebaum and even though she has a low voice, she has the record of the most performance as this character.

  • she sound so witchy!!!! i LOVE her!!! this glinda has too low a voice, though...

  • @lmandlh i agree. her voice is too low!!! >:(

  • I like Kerry her only flaw, and maybe it's just in this performance, is that she didn't hit that note very high. I'm talking about the "Bring MEEEEEEEEEEEEE down note" Idina has her beat on that.

  • 1] idina menzel

2] kerry ellis [in my opinion, the best defying gravity ever.]

    3] nicole parker/shoshanna bean

  • @meghanmuffin96

    i approve of #1!

i think dee roscioli is #2 though :D

  • if Kerry Ellis is to reprise her role as Elphaba, i hope the Kristen Chenoweth could do a better glinda.

  • i wish she wouldnt growl...

  • @phantomfaery84 kerrys growl was her trademark her legendary status and off course her amazingness im from london and saw her twice and her growl was so intense in london she was awe-inspiring in london but on broadway she still did an amaizng job and now shes rocking out in the theatre royal drury lane as an incredible nancy in oliver which again i saw on her firsdt night and she was outstanding literally we were screaming so much it was defining KERRY YOU LEGEND AND THE GROWL

  • @phantomfaery84 Why?! That's what makes her one of the most unique Elphies!

  • @phantomfaery84 It's kind of her trademark and what makes...well made her different from the other Elphabas. Donna and Marcie now do it, Marcie more than Donna. And there's even that Anne girl who does it. The growl is catchy.

  • soothe*

  • @defygravitybewicked THANKYOU sort it out and again you've been had mate OWNED (by the way you're not my mate it was fot the intention of the purpose)

  • a) I listen to people with correct grammar.

    b) right. write. kristen. kristin

    c) don't bring God into this, we're good friends.

    d) people agree with me.

    e) stay out of my Wicked tea parties.

    f) I never said she wasn't a legend.

    h) However, Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth are more legendary. It's factual

    i) She's pretty good too, I never said she was bad.

    J) Okay I'm done.

    k) HA! I just wasted your time :) at least you had some Wicked music to sooth your ears while I owned my haters <3

  • @defygravitybewicked mate you aint owned me not by a long shot everyone knows that kerry fans are quite often refered to as screeming banshees and your patheitc move on and correct sooth you spelt it wrong so dont comment on my grammar and now youv'e cleared up that you like kerry fair play also if you really are that big an idina and Kristen comment on their vidoes move on and you have not oned all your haters yh so what a couple of people agree with you idina wasnt even consiostent so.. OWNED!

  • idina menzel and kristin chenoweth are the best elphaba and glinda ever <33 no one compares!!! :D woah, the thumb turns GREEN when you like someones comment! likethis ;]

  • @defygravitybewicked whats the point your wasting fans space come on GROW UP is you really are that bothered right on an kristen and idina video christ almighty move on KERRY IS A LEGEND dotn waste people time in making them read your comments

  • Kerry sounds odd here and Glinda is horrible. I love Kerry's voice but it sounds...not very Kerry like here.

  • i miss indina...

  • i think Kerry Ellis is the best Elphaba ever !!!!!!!!!!!

  • @24missashley no, Alexia is.

  • @24missashley agreed, she is the best Elphaba ever!!!!!!

  • is Kerry lip singing?

  • @markbuell99 The video is obviously out of sync with the audio. If someone did lipsync unless they were deaf they wouldn't be mouthing along 3 seconds ahead of the music...

  • @markbuell99 no the video-audios screwed up

  • Wow Glinda really sucks here.

  • just to make it clear to everyone.

-idina menzel and dee rosicioli are the two best elphaba's EVER :)

  • @defygravitybewicked Dee definately followed by Kerry

  • @defygravitybewicked Idina's nowhere near that list...but Dee is pretty awesome!

  • @MithraMusic um no. shes AT THE TOP of the list. kerry ellis is like... 4th....5th... stick that in your pipe and smoke it honey ;)

  • @defygravitybewicked I think that in order to be on the list, you have to be able to give a somewhat consistent performance, which Idina is consistently unable to provide, even after she ruined her voice the first time and went through vocal rehab before opening the London production.

  • @PhantomPhreak16 thank you :) i do intend to aid wicked in taking over the world, with idina menzel and kristin chenoweth leading the way of course. all who disagree will be turned into a flying monkey. like this if you would like to join my army. we meet on sundays for tea and noon. <33

  • @defygravitybewicked Where would you place Willemijn Verkaik?? Now I would be SHOCKED if you ranked her very low!!!

  • @boffinme80 well i havent heard her voice many times, but shes in the top 10. i like how shes sortof seems the darker side of elphaba. more margeret hamilton ;)

  • @defygravitybewicked She's amazing! But it's where would YOU place her??

  • @boffinme80 okay okay heres my list...do you want glindas in the list too? like "best wicked performance overall" or just "bestelphies"?\

    1. Idina Menzel. like theres any contest.

    2. Dee Roscioli. shes amazing.

    3. Setphanie J. Block. Shes fantastic

    4. Kerry Ellis. i love her "LOOK to the western sky" but she cant hold the end notes

    5. eden espinosa. not a huge favorite but shes good

    6. mandy gonzalez. shes pretty elphcellent :)

    7. Willemijn Verkaik

    8. Shoshana Bean

    9.Carmen Cusack

  • @defygravitybewicked You put Willemijn at 7 I'm pretty surprised by that. But you said you hadn't heard her much anyway. You should hear her a LOT more often.

  • @defygravitybewicked Here's my list 1. Willemijn Verkaik - you CANNOT dislike her! 2. Idina Menzel - she's a goddess! 3. Jemma Stevenson - incredible! 4. Shoshana Bean - love her riffs and she's an excellent Elphaba! 5. Kerry Ellis - love her! 6. Eden Espionosa - riffs a bit too much but still fab! 7. Julia Murney - sounds off key at times but still a very good actress! 8. Kristy Cates - very good! 9. Teal Wicks - great! 10. Alexia Khadime - great!
  • @defygravitybewicked

Kerry can't hold the end notes? Good one...

  • @defygravitybewicked Kerry Ellis holds the last noted longer than any other actress. her last note goes on forever. there are times the shut the lights off before she's done singing it...

  • Idina Menzel is better :) Kerry's pretty good too, but Idina is just... the BEST Elphaba ever!!! No one can sing and act better than her!

  • @veWgDV If you like Idina then post your comments on her videos not here. People don't appreciate seeing other people mentioning that another Elphaba is far better.

If all you're going to do is knock other actresses and not have any credit for anyone except Idina (I know you said Kerry was good) then don't bother coming on here at all. It's a waste of space.

  • 1) idina menzel

    2) dee roscioli

    3) kerry ellis and stephanie j block

    :)

  • @defygravitybewicked what about Eden?

  • @markbuell99 hmm... shes like...6th.

  • ok let me make this crystal clear..... kerry IS and ALWAYS be the best Elphaba, she makes the song her own, she plays the role with so much respect and dignity, she is phenominal, and if she 'was' lip syncing, it wouldnt be live then would it !! Why would you perform in a musical and then lip sync ??!! durr !!

  • IDINA MENZEL is the best elphie by far. dee roscioli, stephanie j block, and kerry ellis finish 2nd, 3rd, and 4th.

  • ok im not going to argue,a s ive seen before in other comments, its silly for anyone to say 'so in so'' IS the best instead ogf saying I LOVE 'so in so' the best, so i apologise for starting that, i just have a different opinion like everyone else so...

  • love this song

  • LOL i wouldnt label Teal as such

  • i've really grown to adore kendra in this role.

  • I heart Kendra!!!!!!!!! But she seems sick like there is something stuck in her throat. She sounds deeper :? idk but it seems different...

  • actually I think the Broadway make up looks better on her as compared to her London make up design....much more natural life like

  • although you can see they didnt even paint her neck in this.

  • whats the date to this?
