  • Did you know that you can fly in godmode? I don't think so :D

    PageUp, Page Down :D

  • Dude DOS games are the shit, Doom and ROTT never get old!

  • 4:58 = FAIL

  • Actually, the shareware game was WAY better than the full release.

  • classic

  • aaaaaaaaaaaaaa i remember this level :D :D :D one of the best games ever

  • Brings back memories of a misspent youth..

  • the BGM kick ass !!

  • The only FPS game ever to take God mode Literally and it's so badass.

  • @DarkShadowRage2 It actually created the term!

  • I loved this game as a kid the musics fuckin epic too

  • finally a vid where someone doesnt run around with dual pistols the whole time... someone needs to upload a video showcasing all the weapons like the flame thrower, dark staff and dog mode that wuld be amazing!

  • Been looking on here for ages! Does anyone remember that boss thing that zoomed around that you had to kill? It reminded me of a bin/garbage can. Been years since I played this so forgive me for my crappy description. Would really appreciate it if someone replies!

  • Tom Hall is simply a genius... just imagine how would Doom have been if they followed Tom's design ideas for the game. I love Doom, but hell, I hate when games, being ambitious projects, are cut because of time. Same happened to Doom. It was going to be a very complete game, with cutscenes, dialogues, complex monster AI, multiple player characters, and of course, lots of killing, but they decided to fire Tom. I love Doom how it turned out, but could have been better...

  • @hfc2x if you read the Doom Bible (Tom's Doom design document) you'll see that many of his ideas were used in Doom 3. I'm not sure if these elements would make the original Doom better, but Doom 3 felt slowed down in comparison to the original games. Maybe Tom's execution wouldn't spoil the fast paced nature of the original game, though (ROTT is as fast paced as Doom).

  • @badsectoracula I said it exactly because I read the Doom Bible. In Doom 3, bad decissions were made, like darkening the levels too much, adding tedious logs to the PDA, low ammounts of ammo and health, among others. If Tom had implemented his ideas in Classic Doom, the game would still have been a fast action game. Take ROTT for example, along with HeXen (which added puzzles and Player Character selection) and Strife (which added dialogues and cutscenes). They are all fast-action games.

  • I remember those assholes asking for mercy, and if you let them go they would shoot you in the back!

  • i used to play this game it was so cool good old dos games classic

  • You missed some things :D

  • Why do the deaths sound like Krusty the Clown?

  • @stevebasset When they say `NO DON`t SHOOT` they sound like HOMER =D =D

  • AAH! AAH! AAH! AAH! Ugh!

  • what a shame this game was overlooked at the time. was it that it had 90 degree walls? i mean everyone was focussing on Doom. it was great capturing triads or whatever those triangle things were on multiplayer . never got boring

  • I LOVED the little holiday easter eggs, they were too adorable :D AND not to mention crazy fun game. Loved the little bonus levels, bringing back the memories! Then again, there were times when I was just beyond scared and had to wait forever til I was with my sister or someone to keep my company while I go through :P

  • And those crazies say games inspire violence....psh. :) This game was one of the best right next to Spear of Destiny...Blood....Heretic....Hexen...such great games. I remember when these graphics were unheard of!

  • omg this is my favourite game when i was a kid.. it was hard but fun

  • I remember being so scared shitless walking through that foggy stage.. !!!

  • oh the things people would do if they never ad to reload a gun

  • I used to play this game and Mortal Kombat 2 a lot when I was a kid back in the mid-'90s.

  • i loved that game... but i can't remember this fuckin anoying music!?

  • never played this, looks pretty cool, bit like doom

  • This game was so unbelievably fun. Its hard to point out why

The double pistols, the absolutely cool and often funny sounds, the rediculously overdone violence combined with humor and a stunning speed of gameplay.

Ludicrous gibs, republican bonus, democrat bonus, dog mode ... :-D

Its a strange combination of so much stuff that should not work together but somehow worked brilliantly. :-D

  • hand of god mmmmmmmmmmmmmhhhhhhhhhhhhhh uuuuaaaaaaaaaahhhhwwwwwww

  • ah-ah-ah-ah OH

  • I always loved the rhythm when you're dual-wielding the pistols shooting the lightning guards. AH AH AH AH AUURGHH in perfect cadence. :)

  • this brings back old memories of when gaming was good and programmers actually put feeling into their games

  • This game has the highest number of secret bonuses ever implemented. Find all secrets: bonus. Kill all enemies: bonus. Kill all enemies using only bullets: bonus. Kill all enemies using only misisiles: bonus. Collect all Ankhs: bonus. Destroy all Ankhs: bonus. Destroy all scenery: bonus. Use up all missile weapons: bonus. Consume all health items: bonus. Finish level with 1 health pip: bonus. Etc.
  • The music is crappy in the DOS version, sounds way better in the OS X port.

  • Best god damn level music for a shooter ever. Someone needs to do a hard rock version of this shit. Every time I hear it I just instantly start rocking people's faces and pushing the elderly into open elevator shafts.

  • This is a great game. I purchased one from mainebay . The seller has another one online now item 280476498946 if you want it. It says it's like new. Mine was as well when I got it.

  • hello from Australia..i dont surpose you can get this game anymore..and even if you could i dont think it would work on mondern computers "Vista"..but i could be worng pls tell me if i am... because i would love to play it agane..its games like this that are worth playing :)

  • i used to love this until i got sick of the bloodshed.. but i still love the game!!

  • nice game

  • GAME IS SIIIICK. i remember playing this back in 2001. Man, those were the days.

  • OMG I PLAYED THIS GAME WHEN I WAS A LITTLE KID AND I HAVE NEVER SEEN THIS SCENCE I WAS 4 YRS OLD WOW I REALLY BRINGS REALLY GOOD MEMORIES BACK LIKE THE MACHIEN GU WOW OW OWOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOWO WOW oh and i was like the first game i ever played and i am 11 now so ya and is like my5 fav game ever really

  • Shadow Warrior was another classic in the holy trinity of Duke Nukem, ROTT and Shadow Warrior. 3 awesome 1st person stress busters chock full of implements of death, ah the old days

  • Haha, I remember this, it was one of the first games I played on the internet (not too many people even had it back then).

This was also one of the most violent games back then, but it slipped under the radar, I guess people were too busy being scared by Mortal Kombat ;D

I remember shooting those guys who surrendered, that caused quite a stir. Little did the detractors know that they were gonna just stand up and shoot me after that. Bastards!

  • BY FAR the craziest multiplayer deathmatches I've seen in a shooter!

I'll never forget the "king of the hill' deathmatch where the sole purpose of the level was to get to the top of this mound of blocks and get the EXCALIBAT

The level was designed where all spawn points were very close and you basically fought to get that bat, then simply jump down and take a swing!

YOU COULD EASILY GET 5-6 KILLS IN ONE SWING!

  • Dunno why but I loved the drunk missile. :D

  • You only need two words to describe this game: "LUDICROUS GIBS!"

  • @259 And Another 2 Words: "AWESOME MUSIC!"

  • @259 1st game to have'em!.

  • this game was one of my favorites to.

There is a windows port for this game.. you can play it in windows . its called winrot.

  • I used to use the bazooka close range because their bodies just expOLDED! also.. I think there was a weapon that like turned them into skeletons

  • Yes, the legendary FlameWall. You need to shoot the missile so that it hits the ground, thus turning it into a wall of fire which will then burn everything to a crisp in its path.

  • so is there like different versions, like is dark war the same game

  • Dark War is the full game. The HUNT Begins is the shareware episode. THB is included as a levelpack with the full version (in some distributions at least).

  • There is also an official Apogee add-on, called "Extreme Rise of the Triad". It is now freeware and the levels included in this pack are available from the official ROTT site.

  • Great game. calling back my memory when i was around 8-10 yo.

    Funky music :D

  • EPIC MUSIC!!!

  • HAHA ehh, ehh, ehh, no....DONT SHOOT! uughhh

  • OMG!!!! I remember this game...Used to play it every morning before school!!! It eventually got deleted but I could never remember the name of it! Thanks!!!

  • damn i miss this game it rocked hard

  • Damn this was one awesome game! Brings alot of memories :)

  • my favorite weapon was the dog. i havent played this game in ATLEAST 10 years

  • Oh hell, I remember playing this game as a kid, had the full game on cd.

  • This game is badly in need of a remake, multiplayer and all. But not till they finish DNF

  • #d realms scrapped DNF.

  • Lol... Im sorry to laugh... guess you didnt hear, tho take your pick, laugh or cry.. 12 years to make a game? And they wonder why they're company went down?

  • Apparently they are thinking of a ROTT reboot...

Google "20 Years Of Evolution: Scott Miller And 3D Realms", and go to page 9 of the article.

  • The Hand of God is so very awesome.

  • This game looks like it can't decide what it want's to be: a gory, mature first person shooter or a awkward first person platformer.

  • That's what makes it so great! It's blend of the two.

  • First time i played this my eyes were literally bleeding at the quality of the graphics.

  • I never understood the moaning noises with the hand of god...

  • It's an inside reference to when the designers friend, John Romero, was playing Wolfenstein 3D and he was in noclip and invinsibility mode and was running around like an idiot in the level as a joke. I don't get it either.

  • I just assumed the character was bored. Nothing can hurt him after all.

  • I used to have this one. Lent it to someone arount 1996 and never got it back grrrr

  • Ludicrous Gibs!

  • I remember playing this when I was a kid, and I was like "What in the hell is this about??" I loved it, though.

    I.P. Freely. Huh.

  • HaHa i never forgot this soundtrack!! amazing game, i played, Doom, Heretic, Rise Of The Triad, and i must say: I LOVE THIS GAMES !!!

  • Thanks so much for uploading this, i used to play this way back in the day and it was awesome!

  • yup, i remember this. it was fun blowing away badguys with the Heat-Seeking Missile while they were airborne from bouncing on those trampoline things, hehe.

  • This game. BOOM! BOOM!

  • I ***ing loved this game!

  • Comment removed

  • haha o yeah i remember that to...."stop, please...dont shoot" ha

  • a great game for 1994

  • it's amazing how well this game holds up for a 1994 game. it looks (and sounds) way better than doom 2 or heretic

  • Wow, thanks for putting THIS one up CuteFloor, this game is awesome.

  • hello gyiyg996. Thx for the comment on my Comanche Gold video. I have just uploaded Wolfenstein 3D. I have already made a video of Rise of the Triad, and I'm gonna upload it in a while. :)

  • LOL showing no mercy. Can you actually spare these begging guys' live or will they just stand up to shoot you again?

  • No. They will stand up after a while and shoot you. Prefferably in the back.

  • They'll just shoot again once you turn your back to them.

  • Sounds like a GUS, doesn't it? ROTT was one of the few games that actually supported Gravis Ultrasound cards. I love this game! :D

  • I absolutely love Rise of the Triad.

I played the shareware version a very long time (it had an unique campaign from the full version), even if my computer couldn't handle it at first ('Buy a 486!' ;)). The full was even better, it had a load of wacky weapons and multiplayer modes.

Now that I think about it, this must've been my first (null-)modem multiplayer experience. Ahhh, good times those were :P

  • This is one of those games I wish I had. I've played TWO shareware versions of this game. Actually saw a box for this game at a store once last decade... never got it. This is one of many '90s first-person shooters I wish I had. Having XP just makes me miss classic gaming even more. ROTT can be thought of like a "Super Wolfenstein." This game is amazingly fun. It was first-person shooter meets platformer. GREAT fun...

  • Thank god for priest porridge!

  • Fucking amazing game, i played this so much when i was younger.

  • Apogee was the best!

  • i actually used to play this back in the day; looks and sounds sweet to me even now

  • It always felt like you were breaking up a sailor's club, with all those goofy uniforms :) I never could get into this game for some reason. Even if Wolfenstein 3D was inferior I guess I liked the mood a lot better, and would have rather played that. Still, good to see this old thing :)

  • 0:53 made me laugh. The guy was like "No, Don't shoot!" and you killed him. Say, what would happen if you leave him there? will he fight back?

  • Indeed, he'll get right back up, dust himself down and shoot you in the back. Awesome, how many games have the A.I faint death? Deceitful bastards :)

  • Enemies pretending to be dead or stealing your weapons if they're close enough always made this game somehow special :)

  • i rember this game as a kid and even now its feel so weird to me. i never got it at all.

  • Cool game! You missed a lot of secrets and push walls though :)

  • Great music!!!!

    This game was SWEEEET!

  • should they ever decide to re-release this game i'd definitely buy a copy... i miss playing it, it was such a blast!

  • cept now unless you have a MS DOS pc, you need DOS box to run it :p

  • Thanks for uploading a HQ-video of this classic game!! :)

  • I've always wondered how ROTT would play out in multiplayer with the variety of multiplayer modes.

  • The music is very cool! I've never played this one!

  • I love Apogee :)

  • I use to play this game when I was a kid (and still do). Since then, I had two words ingraIned into my head.

    Dipstick and Chojin.

  • That "god hand" (I have no idea) reminds me very much of the Half Life 2 gravity guns ammo. They got it from here?

  • i thought of the same thing. Maybe they did?

  • OMG! i used to play this game as a few years old boy. I kept thinking about it for years but i never really could remind what was name of it! you're god :P

  • best game i ever played,,im still playing it too lol

  • i love the music! xD ! nice video BTW!

  • I LOVE THIS GAME:D:D:D:D:D It was the best times for FPP games, 1992 to 1997. I just LOVE IT:) 1000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000/5!:D

  • Heh, they don't make them like they used to. Jumping pads? Completely random environments? Random collectable things... (I dunno what they are)? To me it just looks like you're running around some place shooting guys, no sense and all fun. :P

  • no... please don't shoot...

    BANG!

legendary!! and the music was awesome too
