  • I disagree that using waveforms is a crutch because when mixing vinyl records, you already use waveforms, in the grooves. I don't use them to anticipate the drops or breaks, but to make it quicker to move the "needle" more quickly to the point I want to cue.

  • How about using mp3 DATA cds witht the CDJ 1000 MK3 ? How fast does the MK3 load the wave form that way ?

  • The good thing about learning to DJ on older CDJs or on Vinyls is no dependency on as many features, i'm about to get a pair of CDJ 850s to replace my set which was stolen. You shouldn't depend on wave forms to know where your drops or breakdowns are, you should be able to anticipate it, count your beats, feel it, whatever you do aside from using the technology, same with beat and tempo matching, you can use the equipment, but its better not to become dependent on it.

  • If you analyse your tracks in rekord box, then burn them to a cd... will the wave form display predictively from the CD or only in real time?

    Thankyou thankyou thankyou!

  • true i agree if u depend in the wave form you suck

  • if you depend in the wave form you probably suck

  • @TechFo exactly wat i was tinkin, its al abouit knowig your tunes,

  • I played on an CDJ 850 last night. Hence why I'm here. First of all, I couldn't even find the WAVEFORM (obviously because it was so slow in uploading), as I was used to 1000mk3, & 2000's. All that I can say, is that without the WAVEFORM the 850 SUCKS. What a waste of money. I hated it. Not being able to see where the drops and rises were on new tracks. I'll be taking down my own CDJs next time.

  • Ok the cdj 2000 reading with a same speed the tracks..But if i'm playing from usb or sd..and the tracks has been edited with the record box before i plug in to cdj..the wawe form or the track infos are all there..same with the 850..

  • "now you can see" no actually we cant see cuzza that terrible camera angle. lol

  • Yeah, good questions, wanna upgrade to the 900s soon and the behavior of the waveform (loading-time, speed, interrupts when cue/loop etc) is quite important for me. Maybe a short comparison 900 vs MK3, too? Thanks for your answers, guys! :)

  • Nope, video is not a waste, your useless comment is a waste. Btw you can save the Wave only manually and that sucks. In addition I wouldnt say that 850 > Mk3, cause even 900 = Mk3. All of them have unique features (RecordBox, USB, Beat-Loops vs Hot-Cues, Jog Adjust, fast Waveform).

  • The first time a track is played it does that, then it saves the wav, after that it comes up straight away in future. So the whole video was a waste, on top of that, does cdj1000 have USB function or rekordbox???? I think not :L Cdj850 is better than the 1000, end of discussion :)

  • the cdj1000 will always be the sl1210mk2 of the cd medium.

  • at the cdj 1000, just a cdj 2000 is a better.

at the cdj 850 and the cdj 900,the waveform quasi unusable.

  • Believe me, I know.

But %95 percent of the DJ's out there still use audio cd's as they are still the most common. Until that perfect day when nobody play cd-rs anymore, this is still an issue.

  • dude a HUGE advantage about the 850 is that its REKORDBOX COMPATIBLE!!!!! as long as u keep ur rekordbox library analyzed and up to date then just put it on a usb and the waveform with show right away as u cue up. honestly if ur still only using cds then why spend so much money on the 850

  • From what I understand an MP3 Data disc also builds the waveform in "Realtime" on a CDJ-850

Check out the pioneer CDJ forums for more info

  • what about MP3 CD's?

  • i have the 850s and this real is crap , also the 4bar loop doesnt work right it only loops 3 and a half bars , there is a link on utube about it and pioneer should fix it soon with a update

  • i like 850

    its good

    but wave thing suck

  • tht suck

  • I know - if you play audio CDRs, the waveform display on the CDJ-850 is pretty much useless, although they can be stored on a USB drive. Most people that play audio cd's only have the older models, so not really practical.

Here's a rundown of the new models and how they handle "Audio CDR" waveforms

CDJ-850 - No Advance Build of Waveform - Builds as it Plays in Realtime

CDJ-900 - Advance Build of Waveform at Approx 5x Speed.

CDJ-2000 - Advance Build of Waveform at Approx 10x Speed.

  • @johnnymorgan999

So reading Wave from Audio-CDs are no problem for the CDJ900? 5x speed?

Does it stop loading when Cueing or Looping? Plz answer, would be nice :-)

  • @johnnymorgan999 If you analyse your tracks in Rekordbox box the waveforms come up instantly. Just a tip
