  • Great to hear this interview. Thanks a bunch for uploading.

  • It's changed in that you cannot park anywhere without shelling out $3-4 an hour... unless you park somewhere up in Hilltop and walk down to the beach. Strip bar on the main drag doesn't add anything sweet to the flavour either. (No debate please)

  • cont'd: Houses are no longer in the mid 50's like in the 1970-78 era, but a condo around $400g... double that for one on Buena Vista with the view of the Bay, etc. If you like walking, then WR still good because Johnson Road is one gridlock all summer long. And the beat goes on. Sometimes progress sucks

I lived there 3 years when in Elementary school- 50's

  • I even remember this. Getting old, hey?

  • Gene sounds like elvis when he talks

  • was that Red Robinson interviewing ?

  • my local rock n roll club,,still play it today,,forever rockin,,,the screamin end

  • Really appreciate your taking the time to put this here.

  • I was there and got an autographed picture of Gene. Also saw him at The Half Moon in White Rock B.C.

A group of us auditioned for Red Robinson at a friends house in North Van. in '57. He said, "What you guys need is a snakey base." Ah memories!

  • he played in white rock. are you joking me!

my oh my it would have been soo amazing to have seen him here.

where was the half moon? i've never heard of it.

oh white rock what a great home town.

  • As I recall, the Half Moon Ballroom was just up the hill and to the right, behind the Ocean Beach Hotel. I think that Red Robinson may have been the master of ceremonies that night.

By the way, The City of White Rock borders on Semiahmoo Bay and is surrounded on three sides by it. 'Semiahmoo' is the Coast Salish word for 'half-moon'.

  • @dannysierra That was the SILVER MOON BALLROOM. Roller skating every Saturday. White rock used to be so cool, now it is a tinsel town. They don't even have the swim crib at the end of the pier anymore. Makes my cry, what they did to that town

  • @dannysierra I bet you went to Semiahmoo High in th elate 50's early 60's. I love Roberta Douglas

  • @sparwood8 No I lived in New West and attended Lester Pearson High. We went down to White Rock quite regularly in the Summer. The best way to get a tan was to spend an hour in The Ocean Beach pub and another hour on the beach.

I haven't been back there for over 30 years and imagine it's changed quite a bit.

  • god what a great interview i was wondering why he had a problem at the border. red is a icon in vancouver and is the rock and roll hall of fame

  • ...he is one amazingly quiet guy...

  • Great stuff---Gene Vincent was a true rock & roller!! Good interview from the past.

  • awe red this is so cool.thanks for making vancouver a musical paradise.terrific interview

  • A very good interview. Damn, this interview coulda been done yesterday and I can't belive so young Gene sounds. That's because he was young although not 20 as he says. Cheers/Roland

  • @gangerollo ROLAND I ??? Dang, U are my cuz, if you grad in about '65

  • Did you hear one thing: Red say about Be-Bop-A-Lula, "...that we even play it today..." This is only about one year after it hit the market!!! Whadda you say? Talk about short rnroll history in those days or...

  • I noticed one thing about this: Listen to Red Robinson's video with Buddy Holly, or anyone's interview with Buddy Holly (exp: Dick Clark's) Gene Vincent LAUGHED exactly like BUDDY HOLLY!! In fact; I have a 45 where he does the "hiccup" (glottal stop) like Holly. I know they knew each other. (oh! Forgot to mention the song where Gene sounds like Buddy: it's LITTLE LOVER on Capitol.)

  • This was some serious rock and roll...long live Mr. Gene Vincent.

  • Is Red still on the air these days?

  • Interview du DJ Red Robinson, Georgia Auditorium, Vancouver, novembre 1957

  • Gene kept coming back to Vancouver to perform practically until the year he died, 1971, at the age of 36. He is being slightly less than truthful here both about his age (born 1935) and his real, or full name: Eugene Vincent Craddock. The next time I hear Red on local talk radio I will try to get through and mention this interview to him. It is truly priceless.

  • @problem49 I don't know what station Red is on now, but I think he does a Sat night old timers thingy on 104.9, could be 104.3 or . one of them Vancouver FM stations

  • This is a fantastic interview - thanks so much for posting it. Red Robinson really gets a good discussion going on some real topics. Good to hear him talking about Hank Garland too.

  • wow. Great! I'd love to see photos or film of his '56 tour with Cliff Gallup though....

  • have u found ny film with Gallup ? I would love to see him "live".

  • gene-vincent.iquebec com

  • Can't believe that i'm the 1st one commenting on this historical piece!! Vincent's comments on Elvis, Chet Atkins and Jimmy Bowen are priceless. Kudos also to the DJ interviewer...smooth delivery and pertinent questions. GREAT STUFF!!!!!!!
