i've seen something very similar in guatemala but they didn't let the bees sting you but he did it himself, the witchdoctor, he would take the stings out of a live bee and he would use it for some allergies and also to counter the poison of other venemous animals.. kinda wierd but it seemed to work

Bee venom acts differently to different people. Some people are deathly allergic to the venom and could be seriously hospitilized because of it. I was stung by a bee when I was little, but all it did was slightly swell for a few days, and then it was gone.

It's been known for a long time that bee stings are effective against arthritis, (i.e. it was observed in beekeepers hundreds of years ago and is quite well documented) but no one either thought to make a therapy of it or figured out how to convert it to a pharmaceutical.
