This ad is kind of miss-leading: Chitty would not need to pay a road tax, nor would any car that would be from the time period Chitty was supposed to be in. All cars built before 1973 are exempt, and since Chitty was built in 1967, paying of road tax is not required, although it wears a badge showing it is exempted.
how embrassing! i was the stand in for the little girl in this ad! totally didn't know it was on youtube! i only really saw this ad like once or twice! never really got shown in Australia! jez brings back memories lol :P

The bloody Brits should do what we do in the States - issue validation stickers to put on the license plates!
That way, your "bobbies" can see exactly when a "number plate" expires.
Anyway, a great commercial!

In New Jersey, New York and Texas, as well as Washington, DC, they issue validation stickers that are placed on the windshield instead of the plate.
For a short time in the early 2000's, my home state of Pennsylvania issued rear-window stickers for people who live in Philadelphia.
All of those jurisdictions did that because of sticker theft.
Other states issue safety (and sometimes emission, as is the case in Pennsylvania) inspection stickers that are placed on the windshield.

I love how they admit that they hide the sodding cameras. Barefaced cheek!

Taught me something, too. Don't try to fly away in a car before checking for invisible people who clamp a wheel to the ground.
