People told him he couldn't get elected and he defied the odds. He is acknowledging racism but at the same time calling black people to action to try to defy the same odds that he faced as an African American. He is using his own story to enfranchise disaffected youth and adults. Thats inspirational!

I'll disagree with you on part of this. I believe Obama is urging the black community away from constantly thinking of itself as the perpetual victim. Sure racism exists but he is saying that tools are in place to overcome obstacles related to such prejudice. I do agree the education in predominantly black neighborhoods is to say the least garbage but so is education in rural white America. One visit to Appalachia will attest to that. Poverty = Poor Education and vice versa.

It does go back to education. Everyone has a chance. The black race is its' own worst enemy. The childrens role models are rap artist who are all about the quick money and they glorify a gangster life style. Our black children need to know it's not about "Keepin it real" or being "Hard".
