This fight rarely makes all-time great lists but it's one of the best I've ever seen. You get the feeling a more seasoned Holyfield (whose infighting got a lot better as his career went on) would have knocked Qawi out, but as it is it's an incredibly close fight, too close to call until the scores are read. A great classic, thanks for the upload.
I watch this and I'm reminded again of just how blatantly biased the commentators were. You can make a good case for either man winning the fight, regardless of how tired Qawi may have been. I understand why they don't fight 15 rounds anymore, but you watch this and you wish they still did. Win or lose, you watch this and you know why Qawi's in the Hall of Fame now.
My god..... wow.... While I'm currently enticed with MMA, and think that the current state of boxing is deploreable, its fights like this that remind me why I love boxing. Maybe it will one day, but MMA has yet to have fights with the drama and spectical of fights like these (Though it does have some damn good ones, check out clay guida and tyson griffon, its like the MMA version of Gahti vs Ward)
@spinksjinx1 holyfield destroyed mike tyson and had he been 5 years younger he would have been a real hell of a problem against lewis ......evander holyfield would have given hell to any heavyweight great of all the eras of the past ...he's no.1 to me ....take it from me a real fight historian ....dillon
I had the fight 144-141 for Holyfield

I dont know if holyfeild really won this fight...a lot of the early and mid rds was all dwight
sugarhitman 2 years ago
it was very close, but I think Holyfield's work-rate was higher throughout the fight, add that to the point deduction and Holyfield has to win.
Great fight though.
You can clearly see the blueprint for Holyfield's career: solid boxing skills and the heart of a mountain gorilla.
